Airbridges - will Scotland have separate rules?

If air bridges are agreed with some countries, does anyone know if that's for whole of UK or would Scotland be able to do something different regarding quarantine?
I get confused as to what Scotland has control over versus what's centrally decided.

Does

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 19:38

Mumofhunter thanks I had a wee look at the wee link Grin, it does seem though that it's based on high oil prices, and some of the figures are quite old so quoting from 2011 and 2013/14. I don't know if that's because the document itself is old, or if more recent figures don't support the hypothesis.

But I suppose my opinion doesn't matter a huge amount anyway, seeing as a most recent poll has determined a majority of Scots in favour of another referendum.

Anyway the core question still remains when will Scotland make a decision about quarantine ?

Pass.. I'll not be going on holiday, just paid £1,000 for a week's self catering so I can see family w/ o staying overnight at theirs. Not moaning just a fact, looking forward to it.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 20:51

That's the thing though, @MumofHunter it's so so expensive to stay in Scotland on holiday.

trumpisaflump · 05/07/2020 21:08

@Mascotte absolutely. And the weather is completely depressing!

TheMurk · 05/07/2020 21:13

I am sick to death of Nicola Sturgeon pretending Scotland is already independent.

I have a strong feeling that 6 Months down the line this stranglehold she has on our economy is going to bite her on the ass when the rest of UK and Europe moves into recovery and Scotland is bankrupt.

Just today I’ve heard of three long established local businesses that will not reopen.

She needs to cut this nonsense and start planning for getting out of this mess, not prolonging it,

MumofHunter · 05/07/2020 21:21

You do realise we're coming out of EU with no deal because of the union with WM? Thousands will lose their jobs because of the union? Rural areas will lose a ton of money they get from the EU (Highlands and Islands esp affected) same as farmers who will lose out.
The bars have been opened before the schools down South. You think she should've done the same? I don't.
What ideas do you have that the SG isn't already doing or planning?

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 21:28

To be fair, the bars are opening before the schools in Scotland too.

She's creating massive uncertainty about schools opening and thus jobs, particularly women's jobs.

Massive uncertainty on travel.

The tourist industry trashed. Attractions shut: no galleries or museums.

The population's health, already poor, devastated by no gyms, sports, or pools reopening.

The stupid mask rule, which will further deter economic recovery and is wholly disproportionate.

Slipping through anti women legislation while the rest of this shambles goes on.

TheMurk · 05/07/2020 22:21

What @Mascotte said.

DisobedientHamster · 05/07/2020 22:44

@rookiemere

I'm not a great fan of driving sockyarn but our friends are used to it and have booked a premier inn to break the journey each way .

It's all a bit of a mess, I'm not even 100% sure that English people are allowed to stay in Scottish holiday homes, or will feel very welcome if they do.

Well, hope it isn't right about now in Scotland because the fucking Premier Inn cancelled our reservation for tonight as not open except for businesses up here. That's right, refunded our money. About to walk out the door for a 2 hour drive to the airport. If it were up to St Nicola that would be stowed, too, but well, it's a UK border.
MissEliza · 05/07/2020 22:57

@Gwenhwyfar the media focused on those two locations because, in fact, most of the country behaved sensibly.

Willowkins · 05/07/2020 23:06

I didn't want to get involved in the who-pays-more-debate but since you've asked, this blog looks comprehensive: chokkablog.blogspot.com/2019/12/how-much-of-scotlands-tax-revenue-does.html?m=1. To summarise, at the moment W pays a bit more than it gets from S. In the future, that could change.

Anyway, got that out of the way, what's all this about blocking the border and telling English people to F off home?

MissEliza · 05/07/2020 23:15

@Willowkins surely W will be putting even more into Scotland now because of the furlough scheme?

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/07/2020 23:16

No, there will be a trade deal with the EU. Could have been better but they fucked up. But at the end of the day, the options on the table weren't about whether there was a deal or not. A bit like the planned Scexit, people voted to leave regardless that it might fuck the economy.

You really think Scexit wont have any consequences? We export what, about 80% of our stuff to rUK don't we?

Willowkins · 06/07/2020 00:05

Miss technically you're right in that HMRC is responsible for the mechanism to pay furlough. But it's more complicated than that. I imagine that when it's all totted up Scotland will pay a proportional amount (8% if based on population) of the final bill. Which will be huge.

MissEliza · 06/07/2020 07:30

@Willowkins what makes you think that will happen?

Mascotte · 06/07/2020 10:12

Back to the original question... when do you think we will hear about travel?

rookiemere · 06/07/2020 12:21

Nothing on the BBC , just an article about beer gardens opening outside and Nicola stating how nervous she was about emerging from lockdown and urging people to still be cautious.

Based on that evidence I don't think she'll be wishing us Bin Voyage any time soon, but then apparently the cards to fill in when you've landed from abroad are only available from today, so realistically how much can they actually monitor it? Particularly if they did and then someone was due to pay a fine, I think there could be a pretty good defence in there about if it was justifiable and indeed legal or not .

Her up- date's at 12.30 same as every day. 👍

MumofHunter · 06/07/2020 12:41

@MissEliza Scotland pays its proportion of the expenditure of the UK as a whole , based on population.

anon444877 · 06/07/2020 13:44

I’m not going to take anyone on directly but please do google the economic situation and look at the facts - the assertions about Scotland not going into the covid crisis with a budget deficit the size of Greece are well documented in reputable sources. Furlough and Scotland’s highest unemployment isn’t going to improve this situation.

anon444877 · 06/07/2020 13:46

Gah sorry the budget deficit is well documented and that was the going in position to covid for Scotland that should say! @MumofHunter

Personally the fact that Scotland’s precious wealth is built on fossil fuels gives me no hope for the future really even if oil prices recover.

I’ve given up on the idea of a summer holiday this year it’s more restful! @MumofHunter and I do have that in common, family visiting staycationers.

trumpisaflump · 07/07/2020 08:28

NS on Twitter this morning retweeting re spikes in Spain and lockdown in Melbourne. Also re Ireland postponing a decision on travel till 20th July. I don't think she'll say anything today on travel.

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 08:41

I now think we will just be locked up forever. Fed up.
