(This probably will get moved to the CV topic but thought I'd start one in Scotsnet anyway).

Does anyone have info as to where the Scottish cases are and whether these are 'community gained' or direct exposure from a Cat 1/2 place.

Any thoughts on the impact for our youngsters due to sit SQA exams next month?

My DS is in his highers year. 2 emails from school last week suggesting self isolation for kids returning from Italian holidays in half term but quiet since then.

BBC 1 waiting for Boris now, expected at 16:45. Not sure when/how we will see Nicola.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/03/2020 16:59

No mention of schools?

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2020 16:59

Lidl, they would have been better forgetting the clean and simply leaving the building empty for 3 days as that seems to be the limit of the survival of the virus on any surface. Particularly avoid stainless steel and plastic.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/03/2020 20:06

the PMs message didn't quite hit home in kilmarnock Hmm

Had to go onto a call, did Nicola have any announcement?

All post grad student teachers have been sent home from placements (2nd placement and due to finish on Thursday) and final placements cancelled. If their teaching has been observed to be meeting the standards then will be deemed to have passed! Great news for DD1, but as a teacher who regularly mentors students I am Shock.

Wax how are you? Does this mean you DH and DS are 14 days isolating?

WeAllHaveWings · 16/03/2020 20:43

Thanks demented.

Ds says around 15 kids in his year S4 were sent home today. Some with coughs, some with pretend coughs Hmm. The saddest though was one of his friends who panicked and texted his mum to come and get him because he was terrified he was going to catch coronavirus. Must be really difficult for these kids to understand why mum and dad are WFH but they are being sent out to school.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2020 21:02

Thanks lidl, still hot, tired and coughing but ok. Didn't work today and probably won't tomorrow but should be working at home after that.

Chest quite tight :(

DH called his work line and they are aware of Boris's announcement but are awaiting the Scottish guidance. They've booked him off tomorrow but likely that he will be at home for 14 days also.

Ridiculous situation in that I am the one with the virus but could well be working and he doesn't (at the moment) but will be off and unable to work. DS1 at home and generally self isolates anyway in that he only leaves the house to go to Uni. We don't know what to do about getting DS2 home as if he comes, he will also need to isolate but if we leave it too late he might be stuck in Aberdeen by himself for who knows how long :(

Can't get a shopping delivery for at least 3 weeks from Sainsburys but managed to get a click and collect from Tesco for next week. We may potentially need a neighbour or friend to collect unless the whole country is self isolating by then...

Lidlfix · 16/03/2020 21:39

Are you managing with over the counter stuff? I had asthma as a child and a tight chest was horrible. My DSis couldn't get calpol anywhere and she has 2 asthmatics and is no stranger to a hospital admission to get them controlled.

Think it's just luck of timing as she couldn't get any sanitary protection and Morrison's had plenty. In Lidl house with 5 females that would be a big deal. We have all promised to make small purchases if we are in shop that has them in stock .

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2020 21:46

i've not needed anything really. I took some paracetamol on Saturday for the migraine but that doesn't touch the sides. I don't like taking anything unless I really need it and I've really not, more just the tiredness and annoying cough, fever comes and goes (not hot flushes!) and the general tightness and nothing really that helps with that.

I'm past the requirement for sanitary protection but did notice the empty shelves when I was last in the shops. DH went to the shops to pick up some stuff on Saturday and said it was lie there had been a locust invasion. I'd been trying to tell him but as usual thought i'd been exaggerating. Took a bit of explaining why there was plenty fresh milk and bread and fruit but no long life stuff etc.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2020 22:04

So, latest update on health protection Scotland is :

It has been announced by the UK/Scottish Government that as of 16 March anyone developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, however mild, should stay at home for 7 days from the onset of symptoms as per existing advice. In addition, it is now recommended that anyone living in the same household as a symptomatic person should self-isolate for 14 days.

Therefore despite having it, I'm good to start going about my business this Saturday/Sunday but DH and DS who have no symptoms at the moment are in isolation for a week afterwards?

7 day incubation period and no longer infectious 7 days after onset? regardless of whether I'm still ill?

Double3xposure · 16/03/2020 22:04

Sorry to hear you are poorly @WaxonFeckoff

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 16/03/2020 22:14

You’ve got it wax? :(

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2020 22:19

Seems so. They don't test unless you require medical intervention but I have all the symptoms and work in the immediate vicinity of a confirmed case.

ginandnappies · 16/03/2020 22:20

I don't know if this is just preparing but my child's nursery has sent out multiple emails tonight updating us and saying to prepare and try arrange child care. North east Scotland

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 16/03/2020 22:30

Poor you :(
Hope you feel better soon.

GlassOfProsecco · 16/03/2020 22:50

I think the schools will close by the end of the week....

nicerainyweather · 16/03/2020 22:59

I've taken my child out.

SamSeabornforPresident · 16/03/2020 23:13

They need to start testing people. If people don't know they've had it, how will they know they've recovered? How will we ever know if the virus has reached its peak? It's almost as though the whole 'herd immunity' plan hasn't really been thought through. 🤔

sowerehere · 17/03/2020 02:44

wax hope you get over the worst ASAP. My DP has been off for 5 days so now it looks like we’re going to have to self-isolate for 14 days. Do we back/date it to last Thursday - his 1st day home? I’m saying yes.

Kids are gutted. DD will miss her pals and school. But bigger worry is DS who has both his N5 Art portfolios to submit on Friday and his Nat 5 Talking French exam on Mon 23rd. Luckily he has both his Art Portfolios at home as he was finishing them up and mounting the boards so technically we could have someone pick them up from us and take them into school for deadline (when he actually finishes his Expressive!). His French is a problem though.

Will have an email ready for school tomorrow and will try and call to speak to them but imagine it will be busy. Imagine they will be waiting for steer from SQA too. They both have school IPads as we’re in Glasgow and my DS is confident he can just get on with revision as resources are online and he can communicate with teachers via Glow but he’s very downhearted. And will the exams even happen?

My DP is OK but has cough, aches but no fever so we doubt it is Covid-19 but we have to follow advice and it still could be. He can work from home for now though which is good.

What strange times. I’m a longtime regular by the way but have name changed for this as I don’t want to be identifiable. Hopefully we can support each other through our isolation, on here and share our experiences.

LizzieMacQueen · 17/03/2020 07:04

My take on it is that, because at any point the whole family has to self isolate for 14 days, I need to have a fortnight's worth of food at home at all times. Is that right?

I haven't shopped more than normal but will have to now, won't I? Pity my car battery is flat 😟

@WaxOnFeckOff so sorry to hear your are unwell and I wish you and anyone else who is ill a speedy recovery. I work in the community as NHS staff visiting peoples homes as yet no protective equipment. Advice yesterday was just to ask if anyone in the household had symptoms or travelled to at risk countries etc. Ie we have to risk assess and visit if we can My dh has an underlying health condition so I am extra worried.
Wonder what today's email from the nhs will tell us. I feel very vulnerable and also worried if I do get infected I wont initially know and potentially could be taking it in to peoples homes not just my own. Keep safe everyone.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 17/03/2020 07:40

I wonder what the chat will be at work this morning and whether my boss will decide we should be included in BJs ‘work from home where possible’ script. Unlikely.

I0NA · 17/03/2020 08:51

I’m another regular who has name changed. Dh has been told to WFH for the next 16 weeks as he’s vulnerable due to health conditions.

However we have two teenagers in the house so they are more likely to bring it in rather than him catching it from work. Also I’m still at work as I work with homeless people, they will literally be on the streets if we close.

DH has been waiting two days for his GP to return his call enquiring about a problem with his meds . They are normally very good so they must be overwhelmed.

We had to attend A&E at the weekend with one of the kids ( suspected fracture ) and it was ok . We waited 3 hours which doesn’t seem much longer than usual ( it was a small fracture of a small bone and they weren’t in a lot of pain - I don’t want you to think we waited 3 hours with a broken leg ) . Staff were kind and professional but obv very stressed.
