So results day is here and I knew it would happen but in just over 3 weeks Dd will be moving to Dundee.

Thought I would start a thread to get us through those moments that we as parents find hard.

Ds has had a wee rant at us. He'd finally agreed to the cleaning rota and it was his turn "on" but got up to this....

He's proven his negotiating skills though - he must have read the riot act and they're doing a bit of their own clearing before he has to clean.

They had already agreed that they would clean their own dishes. Grin

Still wonders if anyone is down to clean the hallway, loos or shower room but doesn't dare ask Wink

Got a nice message from ds saying he'd got a good mark for his Politics essay but would've got a better mark if he'd been more precise and used more formal language - but that he'd already learnt the latter after he'd got me to look over his History essay (which he handed in last week). I'd pointed out that he shouldn't use contractions (like shouldn't Wink) in formal essay writing.

A back-handed way of saying Thank you Grin Mums are often right Wink

Dd has her placement. Inverkeithing. So she can get the train from our local station or I can drop her at Dalmeny and she can go there as I pass on my way to work.

She's home just now. She's got a presentation on Monday then she's home until 7th January.

So far she's left a bag on the train yesterday, spilled fake tan on my bed, and been so hungover we had to cancel our day out today!

Ds and his flatmates cooked an end of term/ exams roast dinner in their flat on Tuesday ....I'm well impressed by their culinary skills( there were Yorkshire pudding, veggies and gravy as well)
Ds is finally home today as he stayed up to celebrate flatmate's birthday , currently on train home 7hr journey

Well done to your ds. DD's lot did a Christmas dinner as a couple of girls aren't from the UK. However there was a debate as Dd referred to the kilted sausages and no one had a clue what she was on about.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 16/12/2018 10:56

We had a kilted sausage discussion the other day at work. Seems it's an East coast thing. Who knew? 😊

Lidlfix · 16/12/2018 14:06

Is that pigs in blankets? I may change my word choice accordingly if so, because it's Scottish and cute.

Groovee · 16/12/2018 18:24

Yes @Lidlfix. I was taught at primary that they were kilted sausages.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 16/12/2018 20:14

Yes, it was one of the favourite school dinners when I was at primary, kilted sausages and mash.

Superjaggy · 18/12/2018 06:36

So nice to have DS home for the holidays! Although he's arrived with all his bedding and towels as "they smell of wet dog" Confused

He's getting a clothes horse from Santa Grin

Groovee · 18/12/2018 07:01

😂😂😂 @Superjaggy

DD was down at the weekend for a family party but she's away for a few days now with folk from her course and then will be back home on Friday. she scraped a pass in one of her exams (43%), aced another (95%) and still waiting for other results...

she seems happy though, and has booked her accommodation for next year transferring to private halls with her current flatmates.

Ds brought home a white tea towel and two white pyjama tops that were practically brown, along with his light grey towel and two white shirts (which he has to wear post rugby games), for washing. When I asked him why he hadn't washed them, he said it was because he didn't have enough for a white load Hmm I reminded him that I'd told him he only had one thing that ran (his Leavers hoody - bright turquoise) and that with colour catchers, he'd be ok putting everything in together (with the exception of the hoody).

He said he wasn't going to take the risk.

I suppose I should be grateful that I've raised a ds who actually thinks about washing loads Confused

Groovee · 23/12/2018 13:04

@prettybird 😂😂 it's an Aberdeen thing. My niece hasn't done one load. At one point sending it down with her friend who then returned it when he came back up.

OP posts:
prettybird · 23/12/2018 15:40

He plays rugby so has done plenty of coloured loads Wink - including having to re-do a load when he didn't put the lid on his bottle of Formil colour wash back on properly and it emptied out all over his clean washing Grin

So we've had the first birthday without Dd at home. Her pressies are sitting waiting on her. Unicorn cake waiting. It was a very off day x

It's a strange feeling, isn't it Sad Even though it is the fate of parents for our children to grow up and move away, it's still difficult, feeling that somehow you are missing out.

Ds had his 18th away from home - on his 1st day of lectures Shock. Too far away to even think about going up to see him, especially as he would've been in the midst of new experiences.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/01/2019 18:47

Aww Sad, I might have all this to come if DS2 goes away. Not the birthdays though, mine are both in the summer so they've never had a birthday at school.

Groovee · 26/01/2019 19:14

She's home next weekend. Then the week after then home again during that week before she starts placement at home. So going to have her home a lot before Easter.

@Roseformeplease

Hi Rose

I'm just reading back through this thread and see your DC started at Oxford this year.

My son has received a law offer from Trinity which I am extremely proud of; I also have concerns.

How is your DC getting on? Which course and college is it?

We live near Aberdeen so it's an awful long way from home and my DS will be the youngest in his year.

Many thanks!

Groovee · 11/02/2019 08:58

Hoping anyone whose DC are at St Andrew’s are all ok after the fire x

My poor ds is feeling really sorry for himself. He had a sore throat/cold over the weekend (he was down briefly for the rugby game). He was really suffering on Monday so I gave him advice via WhatsApp, said it's usually self-limiting but to see a pharmacist as a 1st step for OTC remedies. Saw the pharmacist yesterday who recommended a spray.

He had a meltdown last night from the pain and sleeplessness so we got him to go and see his cousin and her boyfriend and GE stayed the night with them. She gave him some TLC - but then also organised an emergency appointment with the doctor this morning as he wasn't drinking.

Doctor has prescribed stronger stuff for his inflamed throat and we've told him to go home and try to sleep (or doze). He's not good at not feeling well as he feels useless and powerless. As do we down here in Glasgow while he's 2.5 hours away in Aberdeen.

No amount of telling him it will pass helps while he is in pain and sleep deprived Sad

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/02/2019 16:01

That's not good pb. How nice of his cousin to look after pbjunior. I think we have the opposite problem. DS1 claims never to be ill and even when standing with a streaming nose denies that he has a cold...Hmm. Ds2 had been peeing blood for weeks but just shrugged and ignored it! Shock He will occasionally deign to ask for a paracetamol or a throat sweetie.

Groovee · 13/02/2019 16:21

Aww your poor DS. Dd has had a couple of bad migraines but her flatmates have looked after her.
