So results day is here and I knew it would happen but in just over 3 weeks Dd will be moving to Dundee.

Thought I would start a thread to get us through those moments that we as parents find hard.

Dd1 has found herself a flat and moves in in 2 weeks. She's very excited about it!
She hasn't done a huge amount of socialising but today is the first project deadline to be handed in at 4, so she's off to the pub after that for a few beers.
It's nice to see her getting sorted. We hadn't budgeted for her moving out so there's a bit of a strain on the finances until Christmas but she's so happy about it we don't mind. So we're looking at doing all the stuff you lot were doing a few weeks ago! She's also had a couple of job interviews so hopeful on that front too.

Groovee · 28/09/2018 12:52

Aww that's good @weegiemum

Dd was home last night and it was nice to have her here but it felt odd when we all went to bed having her in her room answering her brother.

DS2s hall has just featured in Tatler's top ten most desirable student halls (nb I don't read Tatler but I did read it in the Mail online Blush). This is highly ironic given that he is sharing a rather small room and the communal bathroom on their floor has been out of action for a couple of days because someone blocked the pipes by being copiously sick in one of the sinks! Apparently it's so bad a specialist drain company is needed...

weegiemum · 01/10/2018 15:19

How's everyone doing? Dd1 now has a flat and moves in a week on Thursday. She's very pleased with herself. She also has an interview at Nando's tomorrow, so here's hoping!

Groovee · 01/10/2018 16:50

Just had a text off Dd, she wanted to do a washing but didn't have enough so thought she would use her bedding to top it up. Even paid an extra 50p to ensure that the machine understood it was her bedding.

Washes and dries it and get this... painstakingly irons it ShockShock.

Then while battling to get it back on punches herself in the mouth hurting her teeth and catching her mouth on her braces. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh the joys!

DD's wee job netted her £90 this weekend for 8 hours work! She enjoyed it to.

How's everyone else going?

@weegiemum hope DD's interview goes ok x

ds not met the washing machine yet. My fault, as we have a flat about 10 miles from halls, so have been going at weekends and taking his washing😬 He's now joined a couple of clubs, which is great as he's not a natural at that kind of thing, but has met a few folk he gets on with, so has been to the pub with them. Hoping our weekend visits will not be necessary for much longer!

Groovee · 01/10/2018 17:09

My niece has been bringing her washing home most weekends. Dd went up yesterday to help her learn to do washing 😂

So pleased your dd has found a flat weegie

Ouch Groovee - but also I bet you're feeling a wee bit impressed. (I will admit to ironing my pillowcases, because they are fine white cotton, but deliberately have duvet covers that don't need ironing - either white waffle or white pintuck - and fitted bottom bedsheets -even good threadcount ones - which stretch out their own creases Wink)

Ds was down for the weekend. It was remarkably civilised: dinner at Sarti's, rugby game on Saturday, he went out Saturday night - but then contacted us late in the evening to say was it ok if he and 2 mates came and slept at our place at 3am (turned out one of them was so pissed they wanted to keep an eye on him) and then rugby coaching on Sunday evening.

Got the bus back up last night - with a container of tablet that he's asked me to make Smile

And he forgot his gumshield, again, so I've had to post it, again Hmm

He's back down again in 2 weeks for the Warriors-Saracens game.

prettybird · 01/10/2018 17:15

Oh - and ho only brought back 5 things that needed washed: 2 white T-shirts (because he didn't want to put them in a coloured wash), one light blue T-shirt that had a stain on it that he wanted me to treat, one teatowel (white but who cares? Confused) and a new black T-shirt that he'd got just before going up with a Dr Who-deLorean mash-up transfer on it that he wanted me to wash for the first time Hmm

He says he's doing a weekly wash Grin

wigglybeezer · 01/10/2018 17:47

DS2 was back on Saturday night for a friend's birthday, he's finally caught a cold so wasn't very lively but I was more forthcoming about his course in person than on the phone, he has a tendency to sound tired on the phone and I of course jumped to the conclusion that he wasn't managing the workload but he's says it's all perfectly fine and he's one of the few speaking up in tutorials so far. He's also applied to go on a field trip to Greece at Easter, which means I have to renew his passport asap. So far he's managing laundry but I suggested he brought bedding home to save launderette money and also a jumper I was worried he'd shrink. All very lacking in Drama, as was his big brothers lads outing to Amsterdam this weekend thankfully! DS3 managed a teenage meltdown about a maths test though to balance things out.

weegiemum · 07/10/2018 06:25

So dd1 has gone and got herself a job! It's in a lovely bar/restaurant/ music venue and she absolutely loved her first shift. Moves into her flat on Thursday, my baby has really grown up in the last couple of weeks. Still loving her course too, she can't quite believe she gets to do Art all day every day!

Groovee · 07/10/2018 10:12

Aww that's lovely @weegiemum.

Dd is home on Friday as she has a few days off. The only issue is dh and I go away next week for a few days and arranged ds to go to Granny's. So she may go to granny's too.

weegiemum · 12/10/2018 08:49

Well, that's dd1 moved into her flat. It's nice, more spacious than we thought, so we moved half her stuff, went to ikea as the flat had minimal furniture and no kitchen utensils, back for the rest of her stuff and a Lidl shop ! Just the same stuff as you lot were doing a few weeks back.

Sturmundcalm · 12/10/2018 09:02

sounds much more spacious than DD's halls!! i honestly opened the door to her room and thought "prison cell would be bigger" Grin

glad it's going well for her - my DD has thrown herself into uni life. we don't hear from her that much but when we do she can't shut up! the drinking does at least seem to have been scaled back a bit and there seems to be a bit more chat about her course...

Groovee · 12/10/2018 13:26

Dd is on her way home as she has a week off. About to go and get her from the tram. Will be nice to see her.

Speaking to Dd and my niece.

Niece's law course is really full on. Lots of work to do. She reckons they're weeding out those who won't stay.

DD's being gently eased in before January when they will hit them full on with work before placement.

OP posts:
weegiemum · 15/10/2018 11:15

So much for moving out!! Dd1 came home to pick stuff up (and have a shower on our electricity) on Friday, came for tea on Saturday and last night was feeling ill so came home overnight! I don't think she's really got the hang of it!!

Aurea · 15/10/2018 12:03

@Grovvee

May I ask where your niece is studying law?

1nutcracker · 15/10/2018 19:32

My son is doing science at St Andrews and his course is very full on. Lectures every day, as well as labs and tutorials. My other son did a science at Glasgow Uni. Think some courses expect lots of self study, but the sciences are long hours at uni.

Groovee · 16/10/2018 16:01

@Aurea she's at Aberdeen

OP posts:
Groovee · 16/10/2018 16:02

@weegiemum 😂😂

OP posts:
Aurea · 16/10/2018 16:04

Thanks Groovee.
My son has also applied there for Law. Hasn't heard anything yet.

Can you recall when your niece heard back.
Thx.

Groovee · 16/10/2018 17:35

Stirling was before Christmas but Aberdeen was maybe Feb?

OP posts:
Aurea · 16/10/2018 17:55

Thanks @Groovee

Is she enjoying her course?

My son is getting twitchy after just a few days of waiting. I don't know how he'll manage til February.

He did get great Highers (5As and a B) so he's probably worrying unnecessarily.

Congrats on your successful family!
