So results day is here and I knew it would happen but in just over 3 weeks Dd will be moving to Dundee.

Thought I would start a thread to get us through those moments that we as parents find hard.

DD has been away 2 weeks now and I'm not seeing her until next weekend! It's the longest I've not seen her for... Hoping won't notice too much of a difference...

She seems to have settled in well (DH said...she doesn't sound homesick at all Sad), although it does sound a bit like a holiday with a few lectures thrown in. I hope guess the workload will gradually increase though.

wigglybeezer we also need to do more as a couple too! Grin

Groovee · 15/09/2018 08:59

To be honest she's a fab people person. It was lovely yesterday to go to costa with her and dh and just hear her news before we met ds. Dinner was lovely just chatting too.

Sounds like the perfect job for a hardworking sociable kid.

And dealing with drunk, difficult and and sometimes aggressive people will be good experience for her future career ( if I’m remembering correctly ).

prettybird · 15/09/2018 15:15

Ds is away playing a U18 game for Granite City today. Apparently their scrum half didn't like playing in the position so they were delighted to have an experienced good player coming along who wants to play in the position. Smile

He doesn't like the fact that it takes an hour and a quarter on the bus to get to where Granite City trains Shock And he had to get up really early today Wink for a student to get to where someone was going to pick him up for their away game today. Maybe he'll start to appreciate "Lift of Mum and Dad" a bit more Grin

Groovee · 15/09/2018 15:19

Sounds good @prettybird

Unfortunately, they made the hour long trip to Moray/Huntly, who had said that they would have a team (having not yet managed to get together a full team this season) and only 4 boys turned up Sad

So they just played a development game.

Ds is very frustrated as that is now two. whole. weeks. Wink that he hasn't managed to pay a competitive game of rugby. Still, the next two games look interersting: Garrioch/Deeside (currently top of the table but only because they've played one more game than Granite City) and then Gordonstoun.

Dh was doing a good job trying to keep ds' spirits up over Messenger video (that's how pissed off he was: he actually video-called! Shock)

weegiemum · 17/09/2018 10:14

Well that's dd1 off for her first day of Art School, looking lovely but feeling quite apprehensive I think. We gave her a lift as were taking the other 2 to school (dhs day off).

Felt a little bit teary, but off to meet up with some lovely mumsnetters and knit!

Groovee · 17/09/2018 10:16

Hope she has a good day @weegiemum

Dd has a lecture, workshop, tutorial, interview. Then on to a pub crawl with the second years.

DS has a lecture and a tutorial today, he was in the study room in his hall reading last night when I called him (alone), he always been very conscientious, sometimes overly so and I'm back being a wee bit anxious about him not being sociable but at least I don't have to worry about him not working...
Weegiemum, I was trying to remember my first day at art college, unfortunately nothing much seems to have stuck, only lining up to have my photo taken for the matric card...

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/09/2018 14:52

DSs first day of tutorials today and he has a full day - well 10 until 3 with an hour for lunch. He caught the 8.30 train this morning and I'm not sure which one he'll get home so it will feel like a long day as it's the first since before the exams in May.

Hope eveyone enjoys their day today :)

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/09/2018 14:53

or actually I think it is a day of lectures.

Groovee · 17/09/2018 21:28

Dd got the job. She's buzzing. Extra £60 a week for one nights work x

Well, turn up for the books here - dd1 decided she wants to move out! She's not enjoying the commute across town or having to let us know if she'll be back for tea or not (!) - all of her new friends are in flats. So she's going this afternoon to view a 1 bed flat much closer to gsa (and also really near the boyfriend, which will not be accidental). It's been othing but arguing for 2 weeks, though she's loving her course, and I think she needs her own space!

Groovee · 21/09/2018 12:32

Ooh that's good for her @weegiemum

OP posts:
weegiemum · 21/09/2018 19:05

Well she didn't get the flat, by the time she got back and phoned them it was gone! She's got 2 more viewings booked for early next week.

Groovee · 21/09/2018 19:37

Hope she finds something soon x

We're just finishing parents weekend at Endicott and it's been lovely. We brought up a clothing rack since his room has no closet and took him shopping for snacks and drinks and a few clothing items. We got him all new cold weather gear that we brought up from home since the winters can be very harsh here. We saw a football game (American of course) then had a lobster dinner the uni put on for us. He's rowing crew and likes his classes. Lots of kids said hi to him as we were walking around, so he's connecting socially. I'm sure there are some things he misses about home but this is a good place for him and he seems to be settling in really well. 😊

Ever

MissConductUS · 23/09/2018 02:23

Apologies for the errant "Ever" at the end. I hate typing on my Kindle but couldn't be arsed to bring my laptop on this trip.

Groovee · 23/09/2018 06:56

Dh and ds went up to Dundee as their football team were playing there yesterday.

Dd met numerous people she knew in the short time they were together. Her flatmate asked dh if they could have the table while Dd was at the loo 😂 apparently dh's face was a picture.

Then she went to get the pies and they were served by her flatmate's friend.

Then she met numerous people near the station 😂

Sounds like our dcs are starting to settle in Smile. I hope your dd finds a flat soon weegiemum

Ds is a happier bunny: played his first "meaningful" as he put it game of rugby in three whole weeks Shock, against Granite City's traditional enemy "main" opposition, and not only did they win comprehensively (62-14) but ds scored more points (17) than the opposition team Grin (one try, which he converted himself and the rest must have either been penalties or conversions).

And someone from the Caledonia Academy (the SRU's Pathway process in the NE) asked for his details and said that they trained just across the road from his halls like ds didn't know Wink ----

He says he played really well and although he was playing at 10 (not his favourite position), his try was a scrum half try.

It's amazing how the 1.25 hour journey to/from training/games doesn't seem quite so bad when you're winning! Grin

He's coming down next weekend (encouraged by dh personally I think it is too soon ) as he wants to play the team that our local club are due to play next weekend. But maybe now the game away to Gordonstoun will seem more attractive Grin

He's coming down again two weeks afterwards to see the Warriors play Saracens (the English team he supports), so I'd be ok with him "wasting" the money he has already paid out for the bus ticket.

Groovee · 23/09/2018 11:42

Glad he's settling down PB. Sounds like he's getting busy.

Strikethrough fail Blush

prettybird · 23/09/2018 12:16

Your dd sounds like she is in with the bricks already, Groovee Grin

Groovee · 23/09/2018 13:12

Lol I think she is 😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/09/2018 19:35

Lots of good news on the settling in front :)

DS is still very light on contact. He was in 10-3 on Monday and Friday, didn't have to go in at all on Tuesday and Thursday for his scheduled 1 hour lecture. Apparently they were sample lectures and his presence was not required. He did 2 hours on Wednesday morning which was a bit of a faff with the weather and now he is off tomorrow for the weegie September weekend. He still hasn't found the canteen and got a Greigs one day and a Tesco sandwich eaten on a bench the other.
