So results day is here and I knew it would happen but in just over 3 weeks Dd will be moving to Dundee.

Thought I would start a thread to get us through those moments that we as parents find hard.

Thanks - As she has been in touch with DD2 today and DH can see she is out at organised Freshers do (he still has her on family tracking device - I have removed her!) then I will send her a casual text tomorrow x

wigglybeezer · 10/09/2018 13:18

DS likes the hall food so I can remove malnutrition from the mother's worry list. That is about all the information I've had so far...

Groovee · 10/09/2018 13:33

Had a snapchat with everyone raving about my banana cake. Halo is shining 😂

That’s lovely Grovvee

Groovee · 10/09/2018 14:16

Dd is away to her first lecture. Hopefully it goes straightforward x

First birthday away from home in 18 years Sad

Made him a cake last week to have today. Mary Berry's Victorian fruit cake (he loves fruit cakes).

Lectures today apparently going well - although he was WhatsApping his dad from an Economics Lecture Hmm

20th Century History lecture at 4 and then he's free to go to the pub! GrinWine

What a lovely cake!

The Mary Berry Award goes to you and Grovvee I think

wigglybeezer · 10/09/2018 15:01

Oh yum, fruit cake.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2018 15:47

Happy Birthday! to your DS Pb and lovely cake, and I bet your Banana one was lovely too Groovee. I never bake though I do cook. I have no idea why I watch GBBO all the time! :o

Groovee · 10/09/2018 16:38

Happy Birthdsy to your boy @prettybird

Dd has been walking 40 minutes to uni. Someone has told her where to turn off to make it 15 mins 🤦🏻‍♀️

Happy birthday to your DS, PB! Lovely cake Smile

I wished my DS luck for his first day of lectures today (and to remind him that it's his granny's birthday) and was told they're all just welcome lectures... I daren't ask if he interpreted that as them being optional 😬

prettybird · 10/09/2018 17:21

That was ds' justification for having a WhatApp conversation with dh during a lecture Wink

IndigoApple · 10/09/2018 17:30

One week in and DD has Freshers' flu! I think it's just a cold and luckily I sent her off with painkillers and lemsip so she was dosed up for her first lecture this morning which she said went well. She had labs 3-5 today so not heard yet how that went. She texted yesterday saying she needs £18 for a lab coat so I advised that needs to come out of the money she's getting form SAAS/us!

DD is taking out the HSBC student bank account too.

Happy birthday to your DS, prettybird. Hope you're in not missing him too much. It's such a strange feeling when they turn 18...

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/09/2018 17:41

DS2 isn't well either Indigo but he is just S6. He's even had a very rare day off as he really wasn't well enough to go in. There is a lot going about at the moment I think so hope your DD feels better soon.. DS1 still not even been down to Glasgow never mind Uni! He'll need to collect his matric card at some point which I suspect will bewhen I remind him on Wednesday or Thursday when he there for induction stuff.

weegiemum · 11/09/2018 10:55

Dd1 just about to leave for her registration session for GSA- can't quite believe this is actually happening now it's starting. Just me and the dog today then but dh gets home early today and he's picking up the other dc, so not so bad. I will probably cry anyway and she might well be home for tea tonight!!
She's finally admitted to me that she's actually nervous and excited about it all, which is good!

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/09/2018 11:23

DS1 has his tomorrow weegie. Good luck to your DD today.

weegiemum · 12/09/2018 12:45

She's gone off out again today, having made a couple of new friends, but was disinclined to go out last night (too far away, too rainy (!!? She's lived in Glasgow since she was 6!). I think she's found the older students a bit intimidating, that certainly was the gist of what she said.
Anyway, mustn't micromanage, and I have a friend coming for lunch.

weegiemum · 12/09/2018 13:02

Dd1 just messaged me to say she bought a gym membership!!Shock The most unlikely gym bunny ever. I'm really rather impressed!!

prettybird · 12/09/2018 13:23

She did used to play rugby so maybe not that unbelievable Wink

Groovee · 12/09/2018 13:40

Sat down to dinner the other night and noticed DD's railcard... the one she needs for her hospital appointment 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Rosemary46 · 12/09/2018 14:04

Groovee - Dundee isn’t a very big place, I’m sure 40 mins would take you from one side to the other !

It will cost you £6.50 to send her rail card guaranteed next day delivery and she has to be home to sign for it.

I know because I had to send DDs driving licence last week. Sigh

prettybird · 12/09/2018 14:41

I posted ds his gum shield first class last Thursday (late afternoon) and he got it Friday Smile (deliberately didn't do it guaranteed special delivery as I couldn't guarantee someone would be in to sign for it)

MarchingFrogs · 12/09/2018 15:33

Just popping up from well South of Hadrian's Wall to bring you this
metro.co.uk/2018/09/10/family-advertises-for-staff-to-help-daughter-wake-up-shop-and-eat-at-university-7931128/?ito=social

It seems some folk aren't too bothered about perpetuating a certain image of the St Andrews student?!

Doesn't really help, not naming her, - she'll be the one not mixing with anyone in case they work out that she's the one living in the mansion down the road with a dozen personal servants. BlessSmile.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/09/2018 15:52

Wow!

prettybird · 12/09/2018 15:54

Even Prince William went in to halls in his 1st year ConfusedHmm
