can anyone help a wee old lady?

an old family friend is starting to get dementia and is in a nursing home. We visit her once a week. She's been talking about missing her home. Saying she grew up in Glasgow in 'cadona street'. We asked if she meant 'caledonia', she says no. We think she grew up near gallowgate but we can't find any sign of such a street :(
I was hoping to print off some old pictures of the area she grew up for her christmas and decorate her nursing home room with framed pictures.
She's 89 so would have been living in this street in the 1930/40s/50s before getting married and moving elsewhere
If anyone knows this street or can help with old pictures please let me know.

Cadogan street?

Google autocorrects to Cadogan street - it’s in the city centre but not as far east as modern Gallowgate.

Do you live in Glasgow? The People’s Palace in Glasgow Green has photos of old homes from many years ago, around the turn of the last centurary. Maybe staff there could advise you where to look for old street photos?

Cardrona Street maybe?

I wondered if she meant "Codona", that being the name of a large Scottish show family. They don't seem to have a street named after them, but they were from the east end and had wintering quarters...

no I don't live in Glasgow but I live just outside. It's not cadogan street, no, I used to work there so I know its not there. It's so frustrating trying to figure out where she means and seeing her talking about her old friends etc :(
I might try to just get photos of old glasgow in general rather than that particular street.
It's possible the street no longer exists.

It's either cadona or cartrona...sounds like that, but not cadogan or caledonia

Sorry I can't help with the street name, however The Mitchell Library has a fantastic archive of old Glasgow photos.

There is also the SCRAN website which is Scotland's archive of photos. You can access it for free if you are a member of a local library in Scotland.

Ask her about Vinegar Hill. That's where the fairground used to be.

I phoned my dad for you and he reckons it could be somewhere in the vicinity of Broad St.

Bridgeton Library is a great source of information too.

There does seem to be a Cardross Street in Dennistoun which is not far from the Gallowgate

See if ancestry.com has a free month. You could look at old census records and find the address.

If you knew what church they went to that could also help. I'm RC so know a bit more about that side of it.

might try the ancestry idea, thanks. I only know her married name and year of birth, but hopefully I can still try something.

She's not a christian as far as I know and I've never known her to go to church but I can still ask where her nearest church was and about other nearby landmarks.

I'm determined to get to the bottom of it, and surprise her by (hopefully) finding old pictures online that I can print and she will recognise.

Fair point could it be that they used old street names of previously demolished streets for the new estate?

There’s a page on Facebook called Lost Glasgow which is brilliant for memories of old Glasgow and sharing lots of old pictures.

I'm off to Glasgow tomorrow west end- if get a chance will go for a walk around your area for a nosey!

meant to say this old lady is a widow with no children or siblings so we can't even ask her family :(

We don't have power of attorney, her goddaughter does but even she does not know where her godmum grew up, just that it was gallowgate area.
