Eek it's only 18 days away!

Dd is convinced Nat5 maths will be another C. She's not too stressed about the highers results.

How's everyone else feeling about it?

4 As for my DS (Highers), but no award for Nat 5 maths - all as he predicted. Uber-proud!

Figleaf · 08/08/2017 10:46

Giving up on the e-mail now - tired of checking. Will just wait for postie as he comes around now most days. After that heading out for lunch x

LordPercy · 08/08/2017 10:58

Ah superjaggy...my DS1 was the same last year. 4 highest but maths is a foreign language. Had he been younger I'd have done some assessments for dyscalculia on him but wasn't starting in S4/5.

Groovee · 08/08/2017 11:04

Dd found the Nat5 Maths tough but she needed a B and had resigned herself to a C. So that one she shrieked at me. If she had to resit again the only class she could go into was Ds's! Wasn't looking forward to that.

dd1 phoned - she's really disappointed.

A for English, B for gaelic, C for Art (predicted A and she wants to go to art school), C for history (good) and D for Graphics, again predicted A. She's really angry with the graphics teacher who she thinks misled her as to how good her portfolio was. There are some special circumstances so hopefully she can appeal Art and Graphics.

Dd2 still waiting for the postie!

dementedma · 08/08/2017 11:30

highly relieved here - he passed all Nat 5s. 3As, 2Bs, and 2Cs.
he is a very lucky boy and hopefully will get his finger out and work harder for highers. B for English was entirely down to laziness and he is doing it for Higher next year,

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/08/2017 11:36

That's brilliant demented as if I remember rightly you were having issues with DS last year? He's done better than my Ds2 who can only blame laziness. Hey ho what's done is done but just disappointed in DS2 as he should be uni bound. He should be hear enough a straight a student really. Well done to all those that got what they needed.

dotdotdotmustdash · 08/08/2017 12:01

Very similar to the results my DD got in 4th year, albeit with an extra A as she sat 8 Nat 5s. She went on to choose her 4 A subjects and crash another at Higher and got 5xA for all of them. It's perfectly possible.

Groovee · 08/08/2017 12:03

Dd keeps crying. I think it's lack of sleep. Biology results seem to be poor. She's panicking now.

wigglybeezer · 08/08/2017 12:05

5 A's at Higher, so pleased for him he really worked very hard.
Will be very hard to restrain myself from Facebook boasting!

wigglybeezer · 08/08/2017 12:13

Weegie, I got into art school with a low B at Higher art, just worked very hard in sixth year on my portfolio. In fact DS3 wants to do to art school and I think I'll be encouraging him to do a years FE course instead of Sixth year.

dotdotdotmustdash · 08/08/2017 12:26

My Ds failed to meet his conditions even after 6th year (6th year was a disaster!). He had only choice of course with no plan B so he did the Hnd which fed into the course he wanted.

Two years on and he has passed the Hnd and is joining the original course in year 2. He's older, wiser and a bit more independent with the added bonus of having saved most of his student loan for the past two years and was able to pay for his accommodation at Uni a year up front. I hate to say it, but I'm glad he took the FE route, it was the best thing to focus his ambitions.

dotdotdotmustdash · 08/08/2017 12:39
  • one choice of course
IHaveBrilloHair · 08/08/2017 12:45

Dd is crying and blaming me.
She got 4B's, 1C, 1D.

LordPercy · 08/08/2017 13:10

Oh no Brillo 😞 We had a fraught day two years ago with DS1 - although he didn't blame me, it was just hellish. Any chance of remarks? The system now is crap with no appeals but DS1 did get two exams regraded through the new remarking system.

Groovee · 08/08/2017 13:15

Oh Brillo hugs x

YerAWizardHarry · 08/08/2017 13:19

I missed my conditions by one grade - needed ABBB and got ABBC. Application is with the head of admissions at uni so not all is lost yet.

Groovee · 08/08/2017 13:32

Fingers crossed Wizard x

Unode50 · 08/08/2017 13:32

I'm a teacher and ridiculously proud of the kids. Out of 17 from my class sitting Nat 5 Spanish, there were 13 x A, 3 x B and 1 x C. Biology results seem low in general and are quite disappointing for my teacher friends. They thought it was a hard paper. Well done to everyone!

YerAWizardHarry · 08/08/2017 13:33

Thanks Groovee I'm 24 and in my mind this seems like my last attempt at education and bettering myself, not sure what's next if I'm unsuccessful

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/08/2017 13:46

Brillo. Ds2 did much worse but there's no point crying over spilt milk . Onwards and upwards.

prettybird · 08/08/2017 13:57

Ds had signed up for the email but didn't tell us so that we wouldn't hassle him. It only came through at 11 though Hmm. I was out at Pilates so dh messaged me the results: 2xA and 3xB. He's distraught because one of the Bs was in Physics (the 2 As were Maths and Geography) Sad
Dh said he'd spent half an hour trying to console him. Ds says he'll be wanting a re-mark on his Physics (although that obviously depends on how close he is to the grade boundary) but he says if it was his assignment that let him down, he'll be annoyed at his teacher as she had marked it 19/20.
He's worried he won't now get unconditional offers he'd wanted.
Dh is not helping by saying that WE (him and me) must have done something wrong because he SHOULD have got at least 4As and a B. Hmm We were very "hands off" - but all the indications were that he was putting in the necessary work - which I still think he did.
Ds has gone over to the rugby club to do some kicking practice - probably no bad thing Wink.
He's doing AH Physics and AH Maths (as well as crash Modern Studies Higher) this year, so even if he doesn't get an unconditional, provided he works hard this year, he should be OK. He can always ditch his Modern Studies if he really wants to. He's also talking about giving up his rugby coaching to concentrate on his studies.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/08/2017 13:57

I'm not disappointed at all, I think she's done well considering the year she's had, plus she's starting a much better school.
I get that she's upset of course, I just wish she wasn't so angry with me.

Bumply · 08/08/2017 14:09

Ds2 at home waiting for Nat 5 results via postie

Sends me a text "mum, I'm so happy"
Followed by results (2 As, 2 Bs, 3 Cs plus Nat 4 for History)
Followed by text "Apart from history"

dementedma · 08/08/2017 14:12

thanks wax (pardon the question but are you wankers)
