In despair. Absolutely in despair. Do we have to go through this again? And with such a long lead up to the referendum? Really? What happened to the settled will of the Scottish people?

@statisticallychallenged Will you help me get through this again? (Was Roseformeplease then).

Nolottery- no I'm not. Don't put words in my mouth please.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 09:40

I would agree that they are well matched to debate. We need someone strong to oppose sturgeon.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 09:49

Nikki does nothing, ever, except talk about how an independent Scotland will be full of unicorns and the streets will be paved with gold. She does that so that she doesn't have to talk about the fact she is a xenophobe. She never gets questioned about her predecessors trying to form a quizzing Nazi government or policies on education and health or dismissing the will of parliament on numerous occasions - "what do you say about your policy for using children as spies, Nikki?" - that sort of scenario is unthinkable. She is never asked about anything except about the big mean tories. This way she can deflect from her party's policies and constantly be on the attack.

See what I did there nyx Grin

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 09:50

Quisling

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 09:52

She does that so that she doesn't have to talk about the fact she is a Tory

Rosettes are a giveaway.

Nyx · 01/04/2017 09:57

I've realised I'm on the wrong thread, I've strayed onto your no-fest, I am sorry I butted in and will leave now Blush

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 09:58

You are not butting in nyx. You are always welcome on our thread x

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 10:00

I think all threads are for everyone aren't they? If not then I have butted in on loads.

Nyx the SNP and the Conservative Scottish Government manifestos both pledged to increase Carers allowance. They both promised to limit Council tax rises. Council taxes have gone up by 3% at the bottom and upwards of 10% further up. No increase to carers allowance in sight. Quelle Surprise!

Funny how politicians can always work together to raise taxes but never to spend the money on anyone other than themselves.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 10:21

My c tax was raised 17% which I support if it was to be used on policies for supporting public services and helping the disabled.

No signs of such help. Just a referendum.

And yes I'm a big bad tory yuk.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 10:23

It should have been raised long before (instead of the freezes) and used to help support public services.

I am not in support of business rate hikes though.

howabout · 01/04/2017 10:24

If it makes you feel better schools in my area are getting masses of extra funding because of the CT rise UpAwf - no guarantee the Head Teachers will spend it on anything sensible other than teacher junkets though.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 10:25

Well that''s a start at least.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 10:32

Or their grabby land reforms (theft) I mean reappropriation of land for the public good.

HerOtherHalf · 01/04/2017 10:55

I'm here. No before, No now and No tomorrow. What exactly is so bad with our lot that it merits taking a blind leap into a massive abyss of uncertainty and unpredictable change? I also don't believe that the strong Scottish Remain vote was so much about support for the EU as the SNP claim. I believe it was more a reaction against the distasteful xenophobia and closet racism that thrived elsewhere in the UK when UKIP and the Leave camp made the debate all about immigrants. Scotland is a nation of emigrants (we all have family or friends who have gone abroad in search of a better life) and I think most of us just don't get why economic migrants should be seen as the spawn of satan.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 11:03

I agree with you Herother.

I did not like the leave campaign. I am not sure that immigrants were the reason that most people voted out though.

I voted out but for other reasons, ever closer union etc.

I have lived in both places England and Scotland. I have not noticed Scotland being more tolerant of immigrants, but we do not attract as many so people who are racist are not as aggravated yet that is all.

Despite NS holier than though attitude the SNP displays all the signs of xenophobia themselves, just towards English people as opposed to Europeans.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 11:09

I also don't believe that the strong Scottish Remain vote was so much about support for the EU as the SNP claim

Exactly. We were being told that if the vote was to leave the EU that there would be another indy ref so supporters of the union would have been desperate to vote to keep us in. I suspect the same in NI.
Polls haven'the been showing us to be too keen on Europe.

NoLotteryWinYet · 01/04/2017 12:34

I do think the IEA lady had a point about the UK taking the moral high ground to show up the fluffy EU and their not offering British nationals the same deal, now I reflect on it. It'd unite the people implementing Brexit a bit and skewer the idea that we have bad old tories and cuddly EU. Rather than just 2 sides in a very complex negotiation...

NoLotteryWinYet · 01/04/2017 12:37

Nyx im interested to know how you think NS's style is better than RDs, other than the content being more to your liking. Anybody can come and debate us there are no barriers to entry!

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 01/04/2017 15:44

Possibly no lottery, but then would we potentially be risking the rights of Briton's abroad? I understand the desire to do it but I think we need to make sure none of our own ciizens are in a compromised position too.

HamletsSister · 21/04/2017 20:33

Does anyone else feel a little bit more optimistic now? The GE might be a chance to unseat enough Nats to put a referendum off the agenda again. My constituency was a LibDem stronghold and is one where enough of a swing (and weak campaigning from Lab / Con) might just oust the appalling (and secretly very right wing) SNP MP.

Anyone else?

OP posts:
NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 20:44

I'm hopeful too but I am concerned that the anti SNP vote in the GE will be split 3 ways.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 21/04/2017 21:18

HamletsSister my area was Lib Dem prior to 2015 when the SNP got in but only by around 2,000 votes. We were also the area with the highest turnout in the referendum in 2014 with (I think) 64% no vote. I hope to god we get rid of the invisible SNP MP we have and get an honest decent person back in who, in my opinion, actually cared.

I fear the SNP won't lose enough seats for my liking though.

LordPercy · 21/04/2017 21:56

I'm still not optimistic, however till assume the worst and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

Eldest ds (almost 18) had about 15 mates around earlier to meet up before heading out to a party and not one of them is an SNP supporter. It made my heart sing although I said nothing about my thoughts.
