In despair. Absolutely in despair. Do we have to go through this again? And with such a long lead up to the referendum? Really? What happened to the settled will of the Scottish people?

@statisticallychallenged Will you help me get through this again? (Was Roseformeplease then).

Yup, it's cheered me up no end. I've enjoyed the results today and as a non tory I would never have thought I'd have seen the day that I'd be rejoicing in their success.

derxa · 05/05/2017 21:03

I like Nicola and I don't even have a vote. Your virtue signalling is shit.
You don't care about poor people in Scotland. At all.

BelleTheSheepdog · 05/05/2017 21:12

Watched the parliament the other day: Davidson talking education..

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/05/2017 21:27

The stats I was looking at were on the BBC site which showed a drop, I've been snowed all day so didn't check the accuracy.

Their results were based on notional results due to the boundary changes since the last election which mean a direct comparison is tricky. The numbers are still there I didn't invent them.

Calyx72 · 05/05/2017 21:29

Itsall
Don't even try with this lot

Calyx72 · 05/05/2017 21:30

BBC numbers are on the previous elections but since then boundaries have changed.

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/05/2017 21:32

Well, even the most mentally challenged would be inclined to expect a less than enthusiastic hearing of all their Yes guff on a thread entitled Where are all my No-mates? Hmm

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/05/2017 21:33

No, BBC numbers are based on the expectation of what the results would have been in 2012 under the current boundaries.

Calyx72 · 05/05/2017 21:45

Carry on chaps, as you were.

I don't think you'll get many clicks here for a website run by that rabid racist shit stirrer.

prettybird · 05/05/2017 22:06

Will you look instead at a former British ambassador's analysis then?

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/05/2017 22:10

I will pb but I'm waiting for the % vote figures to be officially published. I like to look at the raw information myself before looking at other people's views.

unlucky83 · 05/05/2017 22:40

It's true though. Watch the Scottish Parliament, or read the election leaflets. The Unionist parties are only interested in banging on about indy, while the SNAP get their heads down and try and get on with the day job
Another one can't believe any one thinks this...
This car crash interview with Alex Salmond on the Sunday Politics is quite amusing ...

If you don't have time to watch it all just watch from about 6 min 40 s - when he asked about time spent in Holyrood debating independence vs time spent debating education ...

Councils are publishing details of votes and transfers. Just spent time going through the iterations for our ward. Is voter share relevant in this system? With seventh preferences possible?

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/05/2017 23:02

I've just gone through my Council voting data and it's based on the 1st preference vote only.

Overall the Conservative votes were 37.2% of the total - this is for 10 candidates over 7 wards.

The SNP got 34.8% of the total - this is for 14 candidates over the 7 wards.

So despite them both gaining 9 seats each, the tory vote was a higher percentage.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 05/05/2017 23:41

My god yes this is going to take ages. I had promised a breakdown for tactical voting purposes and I shall do so, but the info us all over the place and not easy to come by.
What a day, good turnout for the Tories. I know snp did well too, but not quite the victory they are painting it out to be. Hopefully we have reached peak Nat.

WankersHacksandThieves · 06/05/2017 00:09

I'd be happy to help Nippy if you want to point me in the right direction?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/05/2017 08:47

trixymalixy · 06/05/2017 12:25

Looks like the strategy of calling labour no voters red tories has backfired a bit!!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/05/2017 12:29

I'm not sure thats it?

I think it's more that Labour have shown themselves to be completely ineffectual so there are really only two parties in Scotland, and the way the Tories positioned the local elections was that a vote for SNP was a vote for Indy. So anyone who is against indy voted Tory and everyone for voted SNP.

Hence the SNP vote staying broadly similar (small increase) and the Labour vote completely collapsing, and their seats being picked up by the Tories.

Where are all my No-mates?
WankersHacksandThieves · 06/05/2017 14:11

I think that in terms of showing whether the independence view has changed in the shorter term, we need to do a comparison of vote share for yes/no parties compared to the more recent elections. We know that Indy support increased rapidly after 2012 so, it looks to me that their vote share in these elections should have been far higher. Personally I think peak Nat has come and gone whatever spin they put on these results.

WinnieFosterTether · 06/05/2017 14:20

I think you're all confusing local elections with a GE. Our Labour councillors were embroiled in fraud investigations. Imo that's why their vote fell. Most voters are bright enough to be able to tell the difference between local councils, MSPs and MPs. It's only people trying to push a certain agenda that suggest otherwise.
And if anyone can get the BBC to admit the formula they used to calculate seat losses and gains, can you publish it here please? The brief description on their website doesn't explain it. TIA.

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/05/2017 14:32

what's your take on the mass swing to the tories then winnie? A sudden glut of very well qualified Tory councillors the voters just couldn't resist?

trixymalixy · 06/05/2017 14:46

My point was that the labour vote has switched to Tory. I suspect though that in screaming red Tory at No voters for two years the nats were trying to get them to vote SNP rather than Tory.

They've been telling us for 2 years that a vote for labour might as well be a Tory vote, that we're all closet tories, so I'm really enjoying the surprise and dismay that so many did go out and vote Tory as a big fuck you to the nats.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 06/05/2017 15:36

I'm interested in the impact that the SNP fielding many more candidates than the other parties had on the final count. I've had a look at the first preference votes in my council area, and there were many cases where the candidate with the highest first preference vote share was Tory, but two SNPs got in because two stood. If it was a straight fight between two candidates (like in a general election), I doubt the SNP would have fared as well as they did a couple of nights ago.
