Just thought I would start this thread as the results day will be here before we know it as the summer is flying past!

Dd has already seen next year's timetable and has 4 exams in 5 days!

OP posts:
Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 11:04

9As very impressive

unlucky83 · 09/08/2016 11:08

Postie came early here - DD has signed up but I woke her up with the letter at 10.20..she said she didn't care what they were.
Mixed results -good in things she is interested - not so good in ones that she isn't...
English, Classics, French -A
Drama and Chemistry - C
Maths - D Sad
Her Cs are a relief...
She was predicted to fail Chemistry - it was the only one she did any work for (it was the all day cram of the whole course the afternoon then morning before with me and BBC bitesize) so at least that was worth it to get a pass.
And Drama - they recommended she dropped down to a Nat 4 this year -but she hated it, didn't want to do another year (and I was less than impressed with the teaching staff...)

D in Maths - is a problem....I think it is a requirement but she doesn't want to do another year (hates it) - wondering if she can resit or something....basically just do the exam again and this time do some work before...

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:19

Postie has been.
I predicted:

Maths - A
Physics - A
Engineering - A
Computing - B
Geography - B
English - B
Art - B/C

He Got:

Maths - A
Physics - A
Engineering - A
Computing - A
Geography - A
English - A
Art - C

He's a bit gutted about Art but pleased with everything else.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:21

He so much wanted that badge for all As and to not get it for a non academic subject is a shame. I think it's all down to the subject matter they chose and the teaching but he therefore didn't put enough effort in and that's the way it goes.

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 11:25

Unlucky - I remember you doing that last minuet cramming with you , well done . Hope she appreciates it .

Though I'm guessing she won't like most teenagers Hmm

Shame about the maths . I suspect the school will want her to attend the classes and do homework etc :-(

YoScience · 09/08/2016 11:29

Looking like really good results all round. Well done everyone!

Still no post here, so glad DD signed up for the text/email, think the wait would have broken her!! Grin

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 11:29

Wankers - art is really really hard, it's not an easy subject to get an A in. Especially if you aren't really into it .

All DDs pals who were doing it were in school late and on Saturdays doing stuff < vague > , she kept saying she was glad she chose music instead because art is so much work

dotdotdotmustdash · 09/08/2016 11:40

Unlucky - not a bad set of results for someone who wasn't interested!

I really think she should do her maths course again. My Dd only got a C in maths in 4th year and left it at that. She got all As in her Highers in 5th year and got lots of offers from Universities, except for St Andrews who knocked her back because she didn't have a B in Nat 5 maths. Even if your Dd doesn't want to go to St Andrews (and my Dd actually didn't after the open day), the other Universities do want a pass at Nat 5. Even if your Dd doesn't fancy Uni, a C at Nat 5 will make a difference to college and job applications.

Wankers - What an excellent set of results! Unless he was aiming for a career in art, it's not a huge loss.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:41

Yeah, he used to be really enthusiastic but for a boy with social anxiety and terrible acne to be doing a topic on self portraits in a class of only girls except him, I don't think it really motivated him - I'm happy enough that he has passed but he could have done better definitely. He isn't taking it on but was apparently supposed to get an A in order to be able to crash Graph Comm which he has already started. We'll just have to see how that pans out.

rogueantimatter · 09/08/2016 11:43

Wankers I've only ever heard of two people getting 6As at higher and they both included music - 60% performance - so it's a breeze if you already play at a reasonably advanced level.

unlucky - fantastic news except for maths - I remember your posts - check if she does need maths, she might not. A friend's of DS failed nat 5 maths and didn't do it again in fifth year. This same friend is an inspiring boy - he failed 2 nat 5s, chose his subjects very carefully in S5 and I've just heard that he's got AAAAA. Being a year older and having a goal has transformed him.

rogueantimatter · 09/08/2016 11:45

x-posted with dot

Cautionary tale about some of the unis - but definitely not a requirement for all.

Should be much easier a second time around at least.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:46

that was Nat 5s rogue they can only do 7 as they don't start the courses until after Easter of 3rd year, can't fit any more in!

dotdotdotmustdash · 09/08/2016 11:47

supposed to get an A in order to be able to crash Graph Comm which he has already started

My Ds didn't study art at all, he was awful at art (he has ASD and find imagery and interpretation very difficult). He passed Int 2 and Higher Graph Comm. Most of it is done on computers.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:49

Yes, I agree dotdot and he got an A in computing and he was top of their list for doing Nat5 graph comm, he just couldn't do it because of the columns - he had to do hated Geography instead and got an A in that!

rogueantimatter · 09/08/2016 11:50

Ah silly me. Sorry Blush - tbh nat 5s don't matter once you're doing highers! Hopefully the school will let him do graph - especially with all the other As.

rogueantimatter · 09/08/2016 11:52

x-posted. He should definitely get to do graph comm!

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:52

DS1 is borderline aspergers but loves (loved?) Art, he has always been told how talented he was, I just think it's been the wrong subject for him totally. I think he would have got a better score with some of his S2 and S3 work. I looked at his Nat5 pieces and thought it was probably C level but I'm not a teacher.

rogueantimatter · 09/08/2016 11:56

That's a shame. How horrible to have to spend hours doing self-portraits in those circumstances.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:57

I'm sure they will let him continue - The plan is to not raise it with them and carry on regardless - unless they raise it and well see what they say.

He really wants to have 5 Highers at one sitting and he doesn't want to do any of his Nat5 subjects so he will have to crash something.

He's interested in Computing/Engineering for Uni.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 11:59

I agree rogue If i'd known soon enough I'd have got him changed to do something else. Hey ho, water under the bridge now. It's the Highers that is the focus now.

Well don to everyone and all those still waiting, hope you find out soon.

Groovee · 09/08/2016 12:13

Unlucky, I remember your issues with dd in May and she's done well. She may have to resit maths. Speak directly to the school.

Groovee · 09/08/2016 12:13
