Just thought I would start this thread as the results day will be here before we know it as the summer is flying past!

Dd has already seen next year's timetable and has 4 exams in 5 days!

I've spoken to DD now and she really won't contemplate doing maths for another year - but would be prepared to do some work with me to do the exam again...
I really think 'for life' she needs maths (I dropped out of school but got Bs in Maths and English O level - which allowed me to pick up education in my late 20s -without it I would have had to do an access course etc)

I'll speak to her guidance teacher...if they would let her do any coursework/sit the prelims/exam that would be great. I am hoping because of her ADHD they might make allowances ...
And great results everyone ...hopefully they let him carry on with Graph Comm if he is doing ok in it Wankers - fingers crossed for him.
I don't know whether to celebrate or not - she doesn't seem that bothered...

Lidlfix · 09/08/2016 12:34

Well done Steppen , Grovee Wanker DC. Some great results. Any frenzied acceptance of conditional and accommodation searches underway?

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 12:35

Great news steppan

OhFuds · 09/08/2016 12:36

Can I ask...if your DC's got the results by text/email, does the postman still deliver a paper copy today?

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 12:39

Lidl - not here. It's heads down down for the UKCAT test in 5 weeks, followed by the dreaded personal statement and UCAS form by the end of September .

Something new for me to tear my hair out about Grin

A whole year to worry about accommodation etc . Though I've already added rubber gloves and detol to the packing list < yuck>

Lidlfix · 09/08/2016 12:40

Yes, paper copies delivered to all candidates today. Just sooo slow.

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 12:40

Fuds - yes, the certificate should come today in the post for everyone

OhFuds · 09/08/2016 12:43

Oh god, it wasn't with our post Sad just as well I told DD to sign up for the text! I hope my neighbour has it.

Groovee · 09/08/2016 12:44

Fuds our postie normally comes at 1pm but was here at 9am. But my neighbour said he only went to those houses where she knows there was a child waiting. We expect to get normal mail later.

hidingwithwine · 09/08/2016 12:45

Our post was here at midday today - 3.5 hours earlier than it was last year, when we were pacing the house waiting for it.

wigglybeezer · 09/08/2016 12:51

I didn't know that about St.Andrews requiring a B for Nat 5 Maths, thank goodness DS2 managed it as that's where he wants to go ( ATM).

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 12:54

St. Andrews seems quite random . When I applied there ( in the olden days ) to do geography , I was told I needed an o level in German as well as French .

Hmm Hmm

OhFuds · 09/08/2016 12:55

I said at the start of this thread that I told DD to sign up for text as our postman has a habit of mixing up our mail with the neighbour, I'm so glad I did now! I had a feeling something would go wrong.

wigglybeezer · 09/08/2016 12:57

I don' t think I pressed post earlier when I announced DS2s results, 6 As and 1 B, top end of our guestimates, especially about the B in Maths, he used to be in the bottom set and it was touch and go whether they let him sit Nat 5 ( got a D in the pre- lim).

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 12:59

Excellent wiggly , D to B is a great improvement, especially in maths

Well done that lad

Groovee · 09/08/2016 13:00

All the teaching courses want maths at Nat5 B and higher English. That's why dd is gutted.

deste · 09/08/2016 13:07

My DD is a teacher and she was so exited when she phoned me yesterday from holiday. They get the results first. From a whole year nationals, highers and advanced highers they had only a couple of b's and a couple of c's, the rest were A,s. She was ecstatic.

I didn't think you could appeal this year.

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 13:12

I think they can ask for a remark but not an appeal as such deste

Your DD must be proud, what school?

dotdotdotmustdash · 09/08/2016 13:17

From the SQA site

'The ‘Exceptional Circumstances Consideration’ which will ensure that candidates, who their school or college believe have suffered as a result of exceptional circumstances, such as bereavement or illness, will be able to submit alternative evidence of demonstrated attainment before results are published. This ‘alternative evidence’ will take the form of coursework, class assessments or prelims.
The ‘Post-Results Service’ which will ensure that if, after results day in August, a school or college is concerned by a candidate’s result they can request an administrative review of the script and/or a request to have the marking of the script checked. This could result in a candidate's grade going up or down.'

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 13:20

I hadn't thought about the exceptional circumstances people dotdot, I was just thinking of the old days where appeals went in routinely for lower than expected grades.

prettybird · 09/08/2016 13:30

Still waiting for the postie here Sad

Getting a running commentary on what his friends got. There's a scurrilous rumour that his really brainy friend (who got top in the school for Nat 5 Maths last year Shock and was sitting Higher Maths this year) has got "not an A" for a subject Shock. Another friend only got a B for his Physics which he's really disappointed with (the other 7 were As)

When I went to St Andrews (a loooooong time ago Blush), the conditional offer (for French & Russian Russian from scratch) was only for 4Bs for my Highers, so I was confident I was in, even before I sat my exams (I was doing 6 and got my predicted straight As half Arts, half sciences, all academic, no music Wink)

Kr1stina · 09/08/2016 13:30

Wankers - I think each school has its own policy on asking for remarking . At Dds they will appeal if they get two grades or more lower than predicted. So DD can appeal her maths because she got a 1 in the prelim and she now got a 3 ( I'm guessing ) .

Today she is " not bovvered" because she has not what she needs and she's out celebrating with her friends but by tomorrow she will be annoyed .

She can ask for her exact mark and about appeals next week when she goes back . They will be a bit busy today with kids who want to change their timetables for next week or are generally having a crisis .

All the kids on this thread seem to have done so well , or at least better than expected . But I'm conscious that there will be kids ( and parents ) all over the country who will be devastated today Sad

WankersHacksandThieves · 09/08/2016 13:41

Yes Kr1stina. I think they will all be okay in the end, maybe just need to take a different route to what they had planned.

wigglybeezer · 09/08/2016 13:45

Yes, DS2 has done well but DS1 only has one Nat5 and one level five certificate, it was not a good morning when his results arrived.

prettybird · 09/08/2016 13:54

....post has arrived......
