FFS. Feel like we've had three weeks in October, possibly November.

Aw ffs! We are about to come & join you for a two week walking / fishing holiday & look at this! What happened to the heatwave the Southern softy weatherman promised us from laa-las land a week or so ago?!

This weather is fucking appalling

I should add that as an 'ex-pat Scot' living in England, I really should know better!

CarbeDiem · 21/07/2015 18:06

I really feel for you all. I'm in the NE (England) and it's been a bit crap here the last few days. Not as bad as you guys are describing though and certainly not cold enough for heating and fires.

I personally don't ask for much of a summer - just a steady 20 - 25 degrees would do with rain only at night and wind kept to a minimum - that's all. Sitting outside, feeling the sun warm my skin improves my mood so much.

Fingers tightly crossed we all get some decent weather very soon.

Didn't realise it was so bad in Scotland! Both sets of parents live in Scotland and whenever we mention the weather they always say it's lovely! Grin We're sending the kids up for a week soon now school has broken up - looks like I'll be packing jumpers and wellies!
Thank goodness you lot have given an honest account! Honestly, if I believed MIL I'd have been packing shorts and t-shirts Grin

Oh, Buchanan Street is quite hilarious atm- half of the street wearing our winter things and half of the street bravely insisting that it is summer and parading about in shorts and flip-flops Grin

I'm one of the 'coat with a hood' brigade!

santana you were in Riva, yes? How was it - we were at Peschiera same time and went round the whole lake as we had the car this year - wonderful!

Yes! It was marvellous, thank you for asking. We stayed on the beach all day and pottered along to the town at night. Had an absolute ball!

The babies worked out very quickly that Italians are suckers for twins sitting in a pram holding each other's hands and were so smiley and adorable. DD1 glowered at everyone, as per Grin

How did you find driving? DH did the airport run but couldn't really face the lakeside traffic! Did you enjoy yourselves too?

I had a look at the forecast for the next 5 days earlier. High of 11! Fucking 11 in July AngryShockAngry

Be alright if I could escape for a week but no, we're stuck here in winter.

Santana and beehoven. Are you talking about lake Garda. We are just home from a fantastic week in Bardolino. Very, very hot. You must see why I am so pissed off with this weather

Report
SantanaLopez · 21/07/2015 21:38

We are! Grin Did you enjoy it? Or was it just too hot?

You always know you are landing at Glasgow when the rain starts to batter down on the windows!

AmIthatsummery · 21/07/2015 21:45

It was very, very hot. But we were in a spa hotel with lots of,pools.

Humidity was high and when we ventured out (to Gardaland again, in the unrelenting heat) we had dripping sweaty headsGrin

If either of you came back on flybe on Saturday, we were the last off the plane. DD has ASD and doesn't do steps and crowds SmileSmile

I'm just back from Ardlui - all I can say is that wet suits are just rather marvellous: once you're wet, it does not matter whether it's from above or below and it keeps midges at bay just wonderfully.

FFS. It's hideous.
Made worse by my parents phoning from Germany complying about 30+ degrees Envy

I do love my ceiling-mounted laundry pulley though

It's just been so depressingly awful.

Had a week in Spain but apart from that it has rained every day of the school holidays, it really narrows your options and it makes the holidays cost more too. A day with friends in the park with a picnic costs nothing v the cinema for example that costs £££s and last 2 hours max. The garden is a bog the DC can't play in it at all Hmm

I've been seriously looking at emigrating

You can fly with Flybe????? Where from/to? We've been resigned to Thomson Shock

Report
AmIthatsummery · 21/07/2015 22:10

The flybe flight was about I hour behind the Thomson one. It took about an hour longer. But there was loads of room, lots of empty seats. Plus it flew really low, so i could see the ground all flight, which was disconcerting. Our hols were with Thomson, I think flybe had the overflow.

AmIthatsummery · 21/07/2015 22:11

Oh. Glasgow to Verona. Chartered via Thomson/crystal something

Report
SantanaLopez · 21/07/2015 22:17

AmI I love you. You can go Edinburgh-Verona with Flybe and it is a hell of a lot cheaper than Thomson! We'd definitely go with them next year!

Ah, this thread is bringing back memories of family camping holidays in Scotland! The fun of spending a fortnight in a wet tent is not to be missed! I remember that we used to put woolly hats on to sleep in, as it got so cold at night (in August).
But despite the weather, we enjoyed ourselves. Scotland's saving grace is that it is achingly beautiful (when you can see it through the clouds, that is!).

Can't hang a washing out
Can't cut the grass
Can't let kids out to play in the garden

Fucking miserable HmmHmm

Next year I'm going somewhere HOT for two weeks. That's it. I've had it with Scottish summers. Costa del whatever, here I come.

Report
PrimalLass · 21/07/2015 22:26

I think this might be the worst summer since 2010. When we were having a dormer put in the roof so of course it rained solidly.

MrsNuckyThompson · 21/07/2015 22:33

This is one of the reasons I could never move back!! Really feel for you - my mum has been reporting its awfulness (seems crazy to think that just a few hundred miles away we're having a hot sunny summer!). I used to remember watching gmtv or whatever when I was a kid in the central belt. It would be grey and damp in Scotland and lorraine kelly would be presenting from the outdoor studio by the Thames and I couldn't believe the difference in weather!

Let's all go to Lake Garda.

I'll have 3 under 4. Any takers for babysitting? No?

I could never live in Scotland permanently, because of the weather. Too depressing. I feel for you all.

much as I hate the weather, I love Scotland, wouldn't want to live anywhere else
