FFS. Feel like we've had three weeks in October, possibly November.

MrsRoss, your holiday sounds a bit like ours at the shores of sunny Loch Lomond - replace 'Ben Lomond' with Ben Vorlich and you're there Grin

I was at work outside Glasgow today and after morning rain it was a lovely day - bloody typical when I'm at work for 22 hrs.
DH went up to our lodge and was drenched. Bloody typical.

DS3 and DS4 are currently in Germany and braved near 40 degrees heat at Legoland there - it may or may not have almost finished my poor mother off!

You are all welcome by the way.....

Still, it's about 38 here and stunning so I promise not to moan, but if you want to all chip in for next year, we'll happily come back here and let you all get a bit of sunshine :)

The big pool is blown up, filled, topped up with hot water and ds2 and dd are splashing away in it. Pity they need to get out shortly to get changed and go to the dentist Confused. Always forget how long the whole procedure takes, however they are both off screens and in the fresh air Grin

Just driven home from Loch Lomond via Falkirk Wheel & parents in Glasgow. Checked out 2 days early as we realised that yesterday would be an opportunity to pack car & clean up the lodge without getting drenched!

Ended up arguing over whether another day in the lodge watching TV was more relaxing than getting outside (we had loads of waterproofs) & just going somewhere/anywhere!! I was going crazy indoors so took myself out for runs as much as I could as I don't mind running in the rain!

Hubby thinks it was a great success as he got to 'sit/sleep/eat repeat' the whole 10 days, while boys all played on gadgets/watched tv.

Got up Ben Lomond on day 2, when weather broke enough to get up and see the views; one day with 3 fishing, me & ES walking up a nearby hill. Rest was a washout.

Long term forecast I read suggested no let up until October (sorry).

Been to corner shop & so nice to go out in sleeveless T-shirt & feel heat!

I remember this time last year DS was in nothing but a nappy and vest all day because it was so scorching! Its pissing me right off that in August I'm having to use the tumble dryer Hmm

I don't think there has been a full day the entire holidays when it hasn't rained at some point :(

Just climbed into bed and I can hear it lashing down again

What have we done to deserve this Sad

I had to wind up my solar powered radio today as despite it being summer and it sitting on the windowsill all the time, there wasn't enough light for it to charge. That usually doesn't happen until October!

Hideous is Glasgow City centre today already. Horizontal rain and commuters in hats and boots. Sad

The Jet Stream has been too far south for years IMO Hmm
Bastard Jet Stream.
And does it care?! Does it hell.

Report
prettybird · 03/08/2015 08:57

It's the Jet stream (up in the upper atmosphere) that is "too" far South, with the effect that the weather systems are displaced and falling as rain on us

The Gulf Stream is the current in the sea which means that our winters are warmer than they should be, given our latitude.

Isn't it caused by the Gulf Stream (or Jet stream?) being stuck further South than it should be at this time of year?

Just back from long weekend in Germany - 25 to 30 degrees and sunny. At least my 2 youngest will enjoy a bit of a summer….

I've escaped to Tenerife for a couple of weeks-I was here in May too (spoilt brat emoticon) and using that as a point of reference, on the east coast we have had precisely 3 days between my trips where it hasn't rained at some point during the day-3 days in 8 weeks!!!
I'm going to have to get dd to put the heating on for us getting back amn't I Hmm

ssd · 31/07/2015 10:43

agree

its even on the bloody news, if they've had rain for a few days in July, it pisses me right off

mind you, we went to Spain this year and I complained the whole time about the heat Grin

Wait till mine find out the WiFi is free in the hotel........but we are not in the hotel, so if they want WiFi then they'll have to be out in public........with Mum and Dad Grin

And yes, Andrew Castle is an arsehole. It's hard to explain to people down south just how depressing it is. Especially when they decide to moan about the only rainy day they've had in weeks, when we can't even cut the grass cos the garden is splatching. Sad

Report
ssd · 31/07/2015 09:44

oh same kids as me, they will sit for the whole time in reception using the free wifi, they might as well be in their rooms for all they'll want to do Grin

I've just almost thrown the radio out the window, was listening to smooth radio and Andrew Castle has just said "well its going to be another lovely day, lots of sunshine and a good weekend ahead"...arsehole Angry

Thanks ssd. I know it will be lovely and the rain may not even last that long, but it's an expensive 9 days and after constant rain here etc. I was just looking forward to arriving in the sunshine. Think it's to be wet and thunderous when we arrive so hopefully it will freshen everything up.

Grin at kids running about though, DS1 just turned 15 and DS2 turns 14 while we are there. I think the only bit that's had any exercise over the holidays is their thumbs!

I do need to just chill and relax though so might be out on a sunbed in the peeing rain regardless Smile
