I have another idea! We have just taken on an allotment! It's great, have meet lots of people, out in the fresh air, it's exercise, and it's cheap! Any good? I also go to pilates and swim a couple of times a week.

It's nice to chat, zabyzoo had a great suggestion about bookshops. Whenever I go in to get something it seems full of little posters and leaflets about bookgroups, talks and local history group meet ups, and I bet the staff are a mine of info (especially if you were buying a book )

wukter · 29/05/2010 22:02

I am glad you feel better.
If you have been lurking for a while you will see how supportive MN can be when someone is going through a rough time.
When your confidence is up a bit you will be able to change some things in your life that you want to change.
All the best and I hope to see you around!
(But I hope you will fell like changing your name to something happier)

bubble1 · 29/05/2010 22:03

I didnt get over being shy...still am, tortuosly, but you just have to force yourself, and cringe inwardly!
Seriously though, I know from experience that shyness can be crippling...and the very worst thing about it is that other people dont realise yours shy, they just think youre being snooty and arrogant.
I hate going to the school gates every day...head down, sunglasses on, cant make eye contact etc.
Its hard, but doing something as simple as joining online bookclub even can help because you are sharing your interests and opinions with others...go for it.

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:03

zabyzoo - theres a waterstones near me, I often pop in, never seen anything about book clubs, but then, I've never been looking! I'm going to have a look.

thank you for the smileys!

isallshit, because you seem interested in walking I thought I'd recommend a few things:
1- wear ankle weights when you walk, your arse will tone up in days. I swear.
2- The nintendo ds does a game called walk with me that tracks your steps taken per day and is quite the incentive to keep it up over time.
3- the reebok tone-ing runners are really good. It's like walking in sand and help with toning if you want to start off slowly.
Hope it helps.

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:06

wukter - I've only just managed a smiley, not sure at all about name changes!!

I feel much better, than you everyone

oops x-post
.
If you go into Topics, there is a subsection "In the Club" and in that there is "Big/Slim/Whatever Weight Loss Club".

There are lots of lovely ladies there motivating each other. I was one of them myself for about a week but my self discipline didn't last!

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:07

corabear - I have built in ankle weights - my ankles!

CoraBear · 29/05/2010 22:19

You seem like you have a cracking sense of humour. I hope you feel better.

Theochris · 29/05/2010 22:21

I'm really glad this thread is here, it has given me some ideas and kept me away from some other threads!

Tomorrow is going to be sunny I think, you could go for a walk and then get the paper on the way back and then read it in the bath?

Perhaps that is just what I would like to do

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:23

I do, I feel much better. You've all given such good advice and understood. Thank you x

OP posts:
isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:24

Reading the paper in the bath is do-able!

OP posts:
sailorsgal · 29/05/2010 22:33

Yes go for a walk, read the papers. Watch a girly film. Have a bath and paint your nails.

ameliameerkat · 29/05/2010 22:34

Do you have friends at work? I've found having grown up where I am now, moved away (and lost all my school friends) and then moved back, most of my friends/social life revolve around work. It's so hard to make new friends, and takes so long! I have very few friends, if I'm honest.

jonicomelately · 29/05/2010 22:35

This may sound a bit dramatic but I imagine you are interested in parenting so why not consider fostering? As long as you can provide a loving home you may be eligible. A child who needs love and stability won't care if you need to lose a bit of weight.

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:46

Amelia- I feel very shy about going out with them all at work, they're all young and lovely and I'm not. Plus, I just feel like going home at the end of the day.

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 29/05/2010 22:47

how old are you?

isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:49

sailorsgal - I have some nail polish, No. 7, my fingernails are diabolical, but I could go at my toes with it, that's a nice idea

OP posts:
isallshit · 29/05/2010 22:49

Tiffany - i'm the wrong side of 40...
