Sex while breastfeeding

winogal · 06/02/2009 19:40

My DS2 is 12weeks. My partner and I haven't had penetrative intercourse since a good while before he was born, but I'm keen to 'get back in the saddle', so to speak. Problem is, my body won't play ball. Whenever we 'make out' (eek - please excuse this awful turn of phrase), I don't get wet (sorry!) the way I used to. The same thing happened after DS1 and I think I read that hormones related to breastfeeding may be the culprit here. Anyone got any experience/advice?

lube!!! enjoy!!

RipMacWinkle · 06/02/2009 19:44

yup - agree with gemmummy, KY is the way forward.

My only other tip is not to try both at the same time....

Disenchanted3 · 06/02/2009 19:48

Boots have an offer on durex condoms, lube and massage gel, 3 for 2 on any of them

foxinsocks · 06/02/2009 19:50

DO NOT get the ones that say tingle

pamplemousse · 06/02/2009 19:50

I had the same and looked it up, tis def the breastfeeding. Not to worry though, use the suggestions above

pagwatch · 06/02/2009 19:50

seriously. bad. thread title.

gemmummy · 06/02/2009 19:51

insist on lots and lots of oral prior to the penetration!

pagwatch · 06/02/2009 19:51

scrub that.
It is probably me being weird

No pag, you're quite right right, it is an awful threat title that conjures up deeply disturbing images! But rest assured, the last thing I feel like when the wee blighter is latched on is a bit of 'how's your father?!' The KY solution is, I guess, the obvious answer. But was wondering if others had experienced the same. Would save me from feeling like dried out old boot!

at winogal

I thought it was just me ...

I didn't have that problem but did have DH who found it impossible to cope with my producing milk every time he came anywhere near me . and when certain songs played on the radio. And if I tried to have a bath. I was like a human geezer....
He just steered clear for a while

winogal · 06/02/2009 20:03

Pag, am jealous at your -geezer-esque abilities (I suffer from poor supply but struggle on). But much more intrigued to know which songs made you 'productive'?!!!

yep i've experienced the same thing. had no idea it was breastfeeding that did it though!

pagwatch · 06/02/2009 20:09

It was a long time a go with DS1 who is now 15.

More than words. Can't remember the name of the band - two guys with long hair.

nowanearlyNicemum · 06/02/2009 20:17

Extreme
great song
Had same problem while breast-feeding and agree with all suggestions given above.

Er, not the same problem with the songs though!

pagwatch · 06/02/2009 20:19

I remember going out to dinner for the first time when DS1 was about three months and as soon as we sat down...... that sodding song......

winogal · 06/02/2009 20:34

I remember that song well! Good to know that others suffer a similar plight. Feel like such a clapped out failure, but hopefully it will pass.

It gets better btw - I had this problem for a few months and then my hormone levels dropped and we ditched the jelly!

onefunkymama · 06/02/2009 20:42

only caught the heading and it made me laugh, I've never tried having sex while breastfeeding, think the baby would fall off the nipple!

winogal
don't think like that! Your babe is only 12 weeks. You are neither clapped out, nor a failure. Its just hormones etc.
you'll be fine

catMandu · 06/02/2009 20:48

winogal - don't forget contraception, I have living proof that bf doesn't give you any protection, but enjoy!

blush1 · 06/02/2009 20:50

namechanged regular here

I *have) breastfed while in the act. DH and I were getting interested when DD woke up for a feed. It was perfectly possible to do both at the same time!

whomovedmychocolate · 06/02/2009 20:51

Yep DS is another one CatMandu!

I'm impressed you are up to it after 12 weeks, I think it took me about five months and even then it was the most careful gentle sex I've ever had (and I had a caesarian so I didn't really have any excuse!)

catMandu · 06/02/2009 21:28

whomovedmychocolate - I have 11 months between dc's, dh found the pg me a turn off, so we were both raring to go asap. Wouldn't be without ds now of course.
