I found a class locally.
A one day workshop.
I thought it would be a giggle.
And i'd like to know how to do that tassles thing

Anyway, he said, 'have you finally lost your mind?, that's for old women with self esteem issues'

i told him not to be so negative and that I would have preferred him to be a little excited about it.
we haven't talked about it again.

but i still want to do it.
now what?

DB You're flouncing because of this? Blimey Matey, you're gonna need a stiffer spine than that to walk in to a Burlesque class! C'mon, relax and enjoy the banter (and the odd serious, well thought out post).

Quattrocento · 04/01/2009 23:16

I agree with Holidaywonk because she is "sensible".

Dragonbrandybutter · 04/01/2009 23:16

i just posted this on the other thread...

you know i'm NOT soupdragon don't you?
anyway, i'm done, i'm going to take a big long break from mumsnet, lots of reasons but this is the straw that broke the dragon's back i guess. i'm a bit wibbly at the moment and mumsnet is actually hindering not helping.
if/when i come back i'll have a name that isn't confused with anyone elses that's for sure.

I cannot believe my bending over and remote control seizing has been picked up in such a serious way. It is harmless playful behaviour beween two people that fancy the pants of each other.

I have never writhed around on a greasy pole, for that matter I have never been to a burlesque dancing class but would not demonise a woman who chose to.

I do wear nice underwear for dp and myself, I find it as exciting as him to look at myself and think you are one hot mama. I am not binding my feet ffs just putting on some nice knickers and shaking my rather ample booty.

Soupdragon please dont let people upset you

Doodle2U · 04/01/2009 23:20

Twinset - it's NOT Soupdragon!

PottyCockinaPearTree · 04/01/2009 23:21

tsap -it's dragonbutter, not soupdragon, yikes. hope you got that chafing sorted

Dragonbrandybutter · 04/01/2009 23:21

no really, i'm not doing too well at the moment. way too many pressures on me. This really isn't the reason, I discussed it with other mumsnetters earlier in the week and i've been trying to find the fun in mumsnet again.
as i'm now crying, i'm guessing it's not working out too well.

It's an interesting issue. I suppose my problem with things like this is that female activity always has to be mediated and conform to rather exacting specifications in order to be considered sexy - dressing up, special underwear, dance moves that you have to attend a class to learn. ..I'm not saying that women are never considered sexy when in their normal clothes or going about their normal business. But you can't deny that this fetishizing is something that is applied to women MUCH more than it is to men."

well my dp took me over the dining table last night while I was in my jogging pants and had a gravy dribble down my top so he clearly does not expect me to conform to "rather exacting specifications"

TWINSETinapeartree · 04/01/2009 23:22

sorry was muddling my dragons, although who is to say that soupdragon doesnt also like a bit of sexy bed time dancing

Dragonbrandybutter · 04/01/2009 23:22

oops, have defamed soupdragon who people now think is a bit saucy.
apologies for that.

SGB - I see what you're saying, but you're describing marginal behaviour. You don't see those things in the mainstream. No, I've never been to Inner Sanctum Do they have a concession at John Lewis?

Bocca - I'm not saying anyone is silly or misguided. I was just offering my opinion on why something like burlesque raises hackles with some feminists. I was just kicking the idea around really - hadn't realised that Brandy was already upset.

PottyCockinaPearTree · 04/01/2009 23:23

oh no, don't get upset.

Sorry about RL DB but still, MN can be fun. I would like you to stay.

But I understand. I hope you get RL stuff sorted and return ASAP.

Doodle2U · 04/01/2009 23:25

Sorry DB - don't know your story or current circs but switch the PC off and get a good night's sleep. This is gonna look a whole lot different in the morning.

S1ur · 04/01/2009 23:26

I have reported the other thread.

I think you will find dragon that none of the nice people got a moldie invite

Poledra · 04/01/2009 23:29

Oh, Dragon, don't go - you don't know me (I'm more of a lurker than a poster) but I always enjoy reading your threads.
