bit of an intimate one here ladies - how soon after birth did you have sex again?

my ds is nearly 5 weeks old and I'm wondering about when I should give it a go...

give it about a year

NannyJo · 25/03/2005 21:15

we waited nearly 4 months but that was more due to lack of energy and time to fit it in (or is that just an excuse???) still suffering from lesions though so it wasn't great (DS only 5 months now) We also waited till DS was in his own room.

I remember feeling quite 'up for it' afterwards though physically it would have been impossible. Did it just before 6 week check though this was too soon and waited until a few weeks after. Needed 2 glasses of wine in quick succession for the first 6 months or so!

evansmummy · 25/03/2005 21:58

We're at 14 weeks at the moment, keep trying but it hurts too much

mummytosteven · 25/03/2005 22:00

poor you evansmummy

i found for several weeks that very careful positioning and tons of lubricant was required - might help if you've not tried that yet.

dinny · 25/03/2005 22:00

1st time about 3 weeks, had to get morning-after pill at a month post-delivery. this time - 3 MONTHS. ds in bed with us every night anyway. we boot dh out most nights

lavenderrr · 25/03/2005 22:01

it was about 6 weeks with ds and can't remember with dd and by goodness, cat's food smells orrible.

steppemum · 25/03/2005 22:11

After ds it was 3 months, and even then it was too soon. I used to go pale at the thought of anyone having sex soon after birth. But dd is now 3 weeks and I am definitely ready, just haven't got the contraception worked out!

QueenEagle · 25/03/2005 22:59

dh and me were rampant right up to the day ds4 was born (now 14 weeks)

A couple of days after we were up to naughties (everything but actual penetration), well I guess he was more on the receiving end than me lol. Full sex 3 weeks after when bleeding had stopped and it felt like the first time all over again.

Funniest moment had to be when the midwife knocked at the door to do the guthrie test - my 13yo dd had to come and knock on our bedroom door - we felt like a couple of teenagers who'd been caught by their parents, red faces and calls of "yes we're just coming". Absolutely hilarious!!!

fairycakes · 26/03/2005 13:28

about 3 weeks, but only because i was drunk, and only done it a few times since (dd 6 months old!) dont think dp too happy about it....!!

mrspink27 · 26/03/2005 21:00

3 days with dd1
4 weeks with dd2 who was a c section, dh was terrified to go near me in case it hurt me or my scar/stitches
havent had it for weeks tho! too knackered with a baby and toddler on the rampage!

highlander · 26/03/2005 23:37

6 months later and I have absolutely no inclination! I'm not bothered - I think DH is very disappointed but he does understand what a huge physical and emotional upheaval I'm still going through.Every time we think life is getting onto an even keel again DS goes through another 'up 5 times a night' session. With DH at work 10-12 hours a day, I'm ready for bed by the time we get DS to bed.
As a doctor who's had many a long night shift and had to work the next day, he knows how rapidly sleepless nights just suck the life out of you

marthamoo · 26/03/2005 23:42

3 days!!!!

I'm sorry - 9 months seems very reasonable to me.

Nathanmum · 27/03/2005 00:48

I also know someone who had 2 children 10 months apart & that scared me more than the episiotomy stitches! But anyone who makes it in the first six months is doing good!

we waited about 6 weeks after ds1 (almost 3 yrs)- got drunk beforehand and hated it. cant remember after ds2 (8 months)- havent done it for months now though, just too tired and dont feel very 'sexy' at the minute!!!

vicimelly · 27/03/2005 04:33

It was about three weeks for me, thats with a normal birth and no stitches. Thats only because I had the baby from heaven who slept straight through from the start!! ...don't hate me! lol, if she hadn't, it probably would have been a lot longer!!

juicychops · 27/03/2005 13:54

we waited for about 3 weeks but was quite painful as i had to have lots of stitches. we have tried it a few times since then but still a bit painful (10 weeks)

anonymouschap · 27/03/2005 20:27

nearly 7 years, still counting....

Ronniebaby · 27/03/2005 21:29

8 weeks

weeboagie · 27/03/2005 22:30

3 mths with dd1.

Midwife told a story about someone who had come in for the morning after pill 3 days after a c-section......yeeuuucchhh!

wordsmith · 27/03/2005 22:38

Roundabout 3 or 4 months with both. Have only done the deed 3 or 4 times since DS2 born (11 months ago) - last but one time, DS1 walked in halfway through, last time, the condom came off!! This has never happened to me before, and I spent the next 2 weeks in sheer terror that I might be preg again. Luckily not (don't want another one!) However hope to resume a more normal schedule soon (but that's still only about once a fortnight!)
