bit of an intimate one here ladies - how soon after birth did you have sex again?

my ds is nearly 5 weeks old and I'm wondering about when I should give it a go...

About 2 years is my rule!!!!!!!!!!

biglips · 24/03/2005 19:13

i waited till 8 weeks (i had c section) and i was petrefied but eventually the more i have it the more im relaxing but i havent been on top yet not since i gave birth as im too scared

ThomCat · 24/03/2005 19:13

lulupop, that actually made me want to gag, what a vile man

mummytosteven · 24/03/2005 19:14

up to you really. about 7 weeks ish - i waited till all the lochia and first period stopped.

IME use loads and loads of lube - it really does help make it more comfortable.

and make sure you use contraception! it felt like a twisted joke being lectured about contraception by mws/hvs etc shortly after the birth, but you are v fertile recently after birth (probably less likely if bfing).

Blossomhill · 24/03/2005 19:15

6 weeks

I know it is dangerous to do it before. I remember reading about a woman that died who had it within a week or so of giving birth. Her insides weren't ready or something. That's why they say wait at least 6 weeks.

ThomCat · 24/03/2005 19:17

I didn't realise I was supposed to wait! Oh well, no harm done.

stitch · 24/03/2005 19:18

i heard about a woman being pregnant at her six week check. and she did not have a steady partner. which imo is even yuckier, coz it means she went looking for it. icht. is bad enough after baby without going out looking for it.

dot1 · 25/03/2005 09:55

11 months and counting..!

emmatmg · 25/03/2005 10:09

Between 4.5 and 6 weeks after each DS.

Blossomhill · 25/03/2005 10:12

I must say it wasn't very nice though.

Surfermum · 25/03/2005 10:27

About 8 weeks. After my 6 week check my GP told me he wanted us to give it a go in the next 4 weeks to make sure everything was OK. Dh was over the moon at being instructed to do it, I was less than impressed..... not afterwards of course .

mummytosteven · 25/03/2005 10:28

at your GP surfermum! not really his business IMHO

Blossomhill · 25/03/2005 10:29

Sorry but what a weird thing for gp to say!!!

Surfermum · 25/03/2005 10:33

I know, I was a bit , but he's really lovely and very easy to talk to about it all.
When we first started trying for dd I asked him what I needed to do if I wanted to get pregnant (meaning folic acid, etc) and he said "have sex". He rolled around laughing at himself, then explained in great detail about the best days in your cycle to have sex and not doing it every day. Maybe he's not getting it!

2 weeks 2 days.... my mum had just died and i needed to feel loved - if the circumstances had been different, probably would have waited another few weeks.

brandnew · 25/03/2005 13:13

im a single mum so not yet,dd is 16 weeks had a smear though and that nearly killed me so probably will never have sex again lol!!!!

happymerryberries · 25/03/2005 13:24

I have to say that at a week after I still looked as if I had been whacked in the fanny with a large axe, and was still bleeding like a stuck pig! And I had a section!

paolosgirl · 25/03/2005 13:32

Weeks??? More like months...I had a horrendous episiotomy - still couldn't even sit down at six weeks. I never, ever felt the urge until months after, what with leaky boobs, sore downstairs bits, p n depression and exhaustion.

dropinthe · 25/03/2005 13:39

A year?????

jabberwocky · 25/03/2005 14:30

Well, 3 months for me. Not sure if it was waiting for the physical recovery of the c-section or just so exhausted from no sleep.

thefoodfighter · 25/03/2005 14:47

took me 3 mths to stop bleeding bit too much info?! 10mths on have had sex a few times...pity shags really, oh god! what am i sharing?! basically...have lost my mojo? have you seen it? anyone know where i can get a new one?!

LexyB · 25/03/2005 15:02

Have had four children and it has been different lengths of time after each
8 months after dd ( first child ) and only then cos we wanted another one

After DS3 it was 5 days as bleeding had stopped and was dying to have sex without a bump in the way!

Steppy1 · 25/03/2005 15:12

sex after birth ? Possible new thread could be "sex when two pre-schoolers still wake up in middle of night - when ?" Every admiration for you if you've recently had a baby and contemplating sex,(envy) though I remember that bliss as a first time mum

mememum · 25/03/2005 18:07

After dd1 I had sex after 2 weeks. And I had sex last night for the first time after giving birth to dd2 3 weeks ago. Having a very sexy husband does help and also feeling good in myself. I have to admit I had no stitches with either and no serious cuts or grazes so that helped speed things up. I was told by midwife if you feel upto it then go for it! Friend of mine says if you're not breast feeding, drinking plenty of alcohol helps!
