we struggle to get her to babysit anyway and when she did this occurred! she said only 4 15mins and she could see her from window...what do you ladies think?

I do this all the time. As long as you can see them, it's unlikely anything will happen to them.

Do you have a good relationship with your MIL in general?

LittleMyDancing · 22/09/2008 21:03

if she could see her the whole time, I think that's ok.

if it makes you uncomfortable though, you could ask her not to do it in future. but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Well provided it wasn't too hot in the car, and she could see and hear if your DD woke up, then tbh I can't see what the big deal is.

morocco · 22/09/2008 21:05

I do this as well.
I wouldn't make a big deal of it but just let her know you're not comfortable with it for future (if that's the case). if she still does it when she knows it upsets you, that's another matter . . .

Saturn74 · 22/09/2008 21:05

I think it's fine.

i wouldnt be happy, but that is just my opinion. depends if the drive is very private, has gates etc. if in full view of everyone i woudnt be happy

anyfucker · 22/09/2008 21:06

err, I used to do this.

I could see the carseat from my front window (car parked right below), so I used to make a cuppa and relax for 15 mins of peace.

Not a major crime in my book.

luckylady74 · 22/09/2008 21:06

I have done this with all 3 of mine - I just sat in the bay window/ on the door step and watched them- not really a problem unless you don't trust her.

NODDYRULES · 22/09/2008 21:06

We have done this with each and every one of our 3 DC ... usually being grateful for the peace and quiet! I think as she said she was watching her showed it wasnt just a thoughtless act and thought it better to let her sleep. Personally see no problem with it at all.

If for shortish time and visible, fine. Not a problem. Wish I had a drive so could do this - don't feel comfortable with the idea of doing it on a busy street like mine, so don't.

bristols · 22/09/2008 21:08

We do this too. ALways make sure car is well ventilated. We can see from our lounge window and I really don't see the problem.

wja · 22/09/2008 21:08

an ok relationship.. she has also booked her into a creche in the past when babysitting interfered with her sat a.m gym. I tend not to say anything as am a bit feeble like that but am not overly impressed..

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 22/09/2008 21:08

I used to do this, particularly with DS2 and/or DS3.

Surfermum · 22/09/2008 21:08

I've done it too.

mamazee · 22/09/2008 21:09

i do this all the time...

LadyMuck · 22/09/2008 21:10

Depends on whether car was in safe spot or not, but yes ticks my box as being fine. Also much better to leave your dd to sleep than have her woken more abruptly and for her to take a fright at not being with you say.

Mys dcs take much delight in pointing out the spot where my car rolled (gently) down the driveway and bumoed into the garage door whilst ds1 was asleep in the back.

Jojay · 22/09/2008 21:12

I do it too.

IdrisTheDragon · 22/09/2008 21:18

I also do it.

LaDiDaDi · 22/09/2008 21:26

I do it.

TheFallenMadonna · 22/09/2008 21:27

I did it too.

wja · 22/09/2008 21:31

ok ok! it was her friends drive on a busy road while she nipped in for coffee but hey-thanks!
