Would you message him after a lovely holiday connection went quiet?

Name changed obviously as I feel really pathetic.

Recently returned from a solo holiday, met a really lovely man on the Thursday evening (I went home the following Saturday), whilst watching a live band and we chatted for hours about everything and anything. It all felt really natural, he was a little shy but we had a lovely time and I felt comfortable when he offered to walk me back (near to) my apartment. I'd had a few drinks as had he and he asked if I wanted to link arms as I seemed a little unsteady...I probably was to be fair, I was merry but as I don't drink often, it probably takes me much less to get tipsy than others!

Anyhoo, the walk back was 20 mins, in that time we went from linked arms to holding hands, chatted all the way about our jobs, friends, holidays, the fact that we were both single, and ended up sitting on a bench near the apartment until 4.00 a.m. just chatting. It was so lovely. The next morning he messaged me saying he'd had a lovely time and could he see me again, we decided to go and see a singer we'd both talked about the night before, so I met him at 4.30 in a seafront bar, had a couple of cocktails, saw the singer at 6.30 and then he asked if he could buy me dinner. Ended up at the same bar as the night before watching the live band again, didn't stop chatting and laughing and we also had a couple of snogs (discretely, it was very dark). He walked me back again, took a bit longer this time as we were constantly stopping for a kiss, he was a gentlemen, didn't try anything else, walked me to my door, bit more kissing, said he'd love to see when he gets home and then he said he better let me go as I was leaving for the airport at 9 the next day.

He messaged me whilst I was at the airport, said how lovely it had been to meet me and he really wanted to see me again and he'd message/call me when he got home (he was there until Thursday last week). I responded to say I'd really enjoyed meeting him and I'd love to see him again....and then nothing. And still nothing.

I have to say this has really hit me hard and I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, I really liked him and I honestly thought he would get in touch. My friends are in 2 camps, some have said message him (mostly blokes), some have said you messaged last, you made your feelings clear and he DID say he'd message you once home. I have stopped myself from messaging him so many times as I don't want to feel like I'm prompting him, but I would have really liked to see him again. It could have been all bullshit on holiday but then why text me when I'm on my way home.

We're both 52 for context.

WWYD?

I have read the thread today, it’s hilarious and so are your answers OP. I had a similar romance but he’s in another country so nothing came of it! Good memories. I hope it all works for you and you enjoy time together and your yomp 😆

BigSpongyHelmet · 22/09/2026 18:08

Overthinking?

overthinking as in how much thought you were putting into messaging him, how it would be perceived etc. life is too short for that, go and enjoy your date. Good luck OP.

DoloresDelEriba · 22/09/2026 18:21

Came back to see what had happened. Blimey there are some bitter nutcases on here lately. Delighted for you BSH. You sound quite compatible and I think you are going to have a great date and be married in the Spring 😂

Have a great time and keep us updated if you can stand all the nonsense from some posters.

catlover123456789 · 22/09/2026 18:25

I love that you messaged him. I love even more that he messaged back. And I hope you have a great time on your date! Romance is not dead, despite some really odd replies on this thread.

momager22 · 22/09/2026 18:26

I agree you’ve got nothing to lose. Just message him once, see if he’s read it and if he doesn’t reply at least you know.

Taytosambo · 22/09/2026 18:27

CrazyMidget · 22/09/2026 17:47

Yes, I will give it a rest. Apologies. I wish you a lovely time on your date, but just don't make him the be-all and end-all, OK? Not until significant time has passed, you've built up trust, and he's proved himself.

OMG! OP is 52. Stop being so patronising. You'd swear you were talking to a very young adult the way you're going on.

Lol, no

Fair enough. UK? And if you can tell me in what capacity that would be tops, ie, IT, Stocks, Customer service, law?

Quite understand if you'd rather not.

So glad you got a reply and now have a weekend penciled in, hope it is fantastic 🍀

I can understand that this thread has been super annoying! WTF? Ignore what I asked if you're not happy to divulge anything. I HAVE read your thread (well, everything that you've said and some of the annoying bits between) and really pleased that you got a response.

Have fun.
Keep us posted!!

Oh OP I'm an old granny [Mrs Bennett style - you know, 5DD's trying to get them all happily married off!] I'm so invested and just wanted to say good for you - one life and we're here for a good time - not necessarily a long time, so, enjoy!
Reading your thread reminded me of an incident with my DD3 who at 37 had given up on finding "the one" and was quite sad about it so I gave her a journal and challenged her to try 50 dates after which I agreed I'd stop investing in her future happiness and let her become the mad cat/plant whatever lady that she envisaged as her future self.
So, she agreed to rise to the challenge.
Date 1 was a control freak and refused her a diet coke as he invited her to meet for a coffee. [Date aborted sharpish.]
Date 2 was a meet up at a country park for a yomp as you so succinctly put it. Oh dear DD is quite glamorous so she turned up in fur coat and stiletto boots only to find the poor guy in the car park complete with bobble hat, walking boots, ordnance survey map and compass! She was baffled as she was expecting a romantic stroll and a chat not a geography lesson!
For the record date 3 WAS the one - now happily married with a two year old miracle baby.
Good Luck OP, ignore the naysayers - most of us are rooting for you!

The specific job he has is the one where they count a stack of tenners while pausing every now and then to lick a finger.

My point all the way through has been how we get over-excited about a man for doing the bare minimum and how it sets us up for diappointment, so we should not set such store by someone we spent 48 hours with. This is an extremely wise and sensible viewpoint. The insults to me and others sounding a note of caution have been;

Bitter x 10
Negative dried-up old shrews
Unhinged
Hate men and women
Misandrist
Fruit loops
Emotionally unintelligent
A few more but I can't remember without looking back over the thread

For injecting some common sense, the insulters sound like a bunch of kids who've had their toys taken away!

Hold men up as the greatest source of happiness if you want, but that has worked out badly for a lot of women.

Edited

Get some help, and stop projecting

WTAF, just when you think it can't get any weirder!

In my 60 odd years I've yet to come across folk in real life like some of the ones on here😁

They actually think folk joking about hats means we think youre getting married and for some reason they get batshit about someone having a bit of positivity.

In reality you've messaged someone, youre meeting up and that's nice. He might turn out to be a dick and you can kick him to the kerb. Im sure you can work that one out for yourself!

And all this shite about men and how they think...."men" are not one big lump, they are individuals just like us, and thank fuck my experience with my fair share of them is very unlike some of descriptions here!

NewNose · 22/09/2026 18:53

Oh this is so exciting OP! Meeting someone in the old school analogue way is so much nicer than the OLD bullshit. It’s how I met my DP over 6 years ago, random real life encounter and I love him more and more each day. I hope yours turns out to be similarly brilliant, early signs are good (if you ignore the axe murderer, fraud potential etc warnings signs others have pointed out here 🤣).

Hold men up as the greatest source of happiness

I mean, literally nobody has done this here. What are you reading?! This is why you sound unhinged. Nobody is ‘lauding a man’ for doing the ‘bare minimum’ and the other nonsense you have come out with. A few people have given the OP some encouragement and expressed joy when a man she liked has got in touch. That’s all. No more and no less. Nobody is really suggesting marriage or that this relationship is def going anywhere. It is just some lighthearted warm encouragement for something mildly positive that has happened to a poster today.

Maybe think about why you are reacting like this.

The OP isn’t stupid. Give it a rest with the patronising ‘advice’.
