Proposal - he has a ring but I’m sick of waiting

I know that proposals aren’t the be all and end all. But I am desperate to marry my partner and so is he (so he says pretty much every day).
Ring exists because I’ve come across it when I saw the box in his suitcase when we went on holiday last year. But we had issues on holiday (not with each other) with our villa so i can see why he didn’t do it there. We had a few days of just being super disappointed with certain problems we had with our holiday let and then I had an allergic reaction to something so literally there wasn’t a window that I know he could have used.

he has said when it happens he wants to do it properly. He knows I don’t care for a massive show and I don’t want money being spent to make it happen. I really hate stuff like that. All I want is some thought.

I’m just at a point now where I’m getting more and more pissed that he hasn’t managed to just work out a romantic way to do it. I’m not asking for instagram worthy, just take me on a trip to a bloody lake or a pretty looking forest that’s free to visit and get down on a knee or something.

i don’t want this bogus thing of me asking him or him just asking me at home. This is the only thing I’ve actually ever wanted in our relationship to be just a little bit special. I’ve been married before and it was all pretty shit and I was never made to feel loved the way I wished to be. DP is so loving and affectionate, I can’t understand why he hasn’t just bitten the bullet or even found a way to make it happen

what do I say to him? Should I have a chat with him? because it’s been 9 months since he knew I saw the ring and I’m just getting fed up. I’m getting to a point where I just question if he even wants this any more.

Gosh I’m sorry this is long, I guess I needed to vent more than I thought I did.

No, I think it’ll be short and unhappy because you’re too much like hard work

Because this is the only thing I’ve asked of him in the years we’ve been together? I disagree! Everyone has their one thing. This is mine

But I accept how it’s coming across

Perhaps he’s paralysed by the pressure of the ridiculous expectation? There’s nothing ‘bogus’ about asking someone you want to marry to marry you at home, FFS.

I agree, I think I was feeling a little disappointed at the time and said those words.

It is just as special, just not for me if I’m honest. Likely because I’ve blown it up in my head for so many years since I was young

Yes! You’re making too much of being proposed to.

I know you’re all right.

a part of me wonders if I’m just annoyed he hasn’t done it, not the method it’s done in and if he did do it at home I’d be over the moon regardless

Yeah IKR, my bogus marriage after my ‘non-proposal at home where I asked for the ring we both knew he had so what was the point in messing around pretending it was a surprise proposal’ proposal is still going strong after 16 years…maybe I’d also have had a divorce if I was precious about the proposal 🤣😂

I love this.

I should just stop being a twat online and just do something about it shouldn’t I 😂

I am single so please take with a pinch of salt

But I get you!

The right man wont run because your proposal story matters to you! I do think the pressure may have gotten too much for him so definitely leave it now, if everything else is good

Hopefully he will get it right. I know Carrie bradshaw had to compromise and have a wedding in a shit dress to get Big, but you dont have to! X

I understand OP. DP and I went on holiday and we always pack 50/50 cases instead one gets lost. I unpacked my stuff from 1 bag then started to unpack my stuff from his case. He had popped out of room. I saw a gorgeous diamond engagement ring. I closed the box, put my clothes back in his case and spent the week expecting a romantic proposal. On our last night we went for a beautiful Italian meal, then for a walk and looked out at a castle in the sea. Nothing. I went home disappointed but said nothing. 2 weeks later we were taking my 7 year old to collect conquers under a tree close to the castle in our home town and he went down on one knee, which I never thought he would die to old rugby injury, and proposed. He said he thought of proposing at castle in sea on holiday but then decided on our little castle at home and that is where we got married. Try to be patient and wait for him to ask you. He might have a reason for making youeu

I absolutely love this. This is such a beautiful story. I think the right words is all it’ll take and I’ll be more than happy with a proposal in front of the cats at home!

Yeah lol, just tell him you know there is a ring, ask him if he still wants to propose, and then accept without him asking 😂

gets you a good story to tell people anyway, nobody cares if it is romantic, this would be cuter.

Thank you all in here who took the time to message.

I AM ENGAGED! And I am so so so happy!

Thank all of you who took the time to post replies and gave me food for thought, support and general kick up the arse to get over it.

It was just perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I'm really sorry OP, but he's stalling, and given your expectations sound very do-able and reasonable (ffs you're only asking to go to a nice beauty spot), I don't think he's stalling because of your 'high' expectations. Jesus. The bar is so low for some women. 9 months later is plenty of time.

However, I'm confused that you've sent a date to be married - he's pretty much proposed to you, just without the ceremony, hasn't he? But you obviously still feel that something isn't right. Has the engagement been announced to all your family and friends yet? If not, I'd be worried.

Washingupdone · 24/08/2026 13:19

Congratulations!

So how did he pop the question @CurlyOldGirly

congrats. Pic of ring

Congrats! Ring pics? 🤩

we had a two year engagement as well. Don’t hesitate to book those suppliers now. They’re very busy in summer and get booked very early in advance!

I’m really pleased for you! I’ve followed your thread from the start and am so pleased it all turned out so well in the end. Many congratulations to you both.

Thank you all I can honestly say I think I would have probably have lost my mind had I not had the supportive and eye opening words on this thread from all you lovely ladies.
You guys kept me going and forced me not only to have a chat with my now Fiancé (OMG!) but also question myself a little and have both of us grow a little and recapture the original magic that we had started to allow life to get in the way of.
Thank you all so much, and yes, I will post the ring and the hilarious proposal shortly

Thank you!

So the mad thing is here I was complaining about still not getting a ring and not only did he get me this but he actually hinted whilst we were on holiday that I was getting an oval - he actually gifted me oval diamond earrings after we had a lovely day in the pool with my DD.

Honestly I’m such an idiot. He’s so special and all this time I was getting worked up over nothing!
