My partner, magic mushrooms and our holiday

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:45

My partner micro doses magic mushrooms daily for mental health reasons (depression). I don’t have an issue with this.
however we are planning our first holiday. Nothing is booked yet but they have said they are planning to take some mushrooms for use there which makes sense but it hadn’t crossed my mind.
im not comfortable travelling with someone who is carrying something illegal. I don’t want to be implicated or get into trouble. I would lose my job.
my partner understands to a point but says this is not what the airport security are looking for and they won’t get caught.
I agree the risk is low however that’s not the point. They are asking me to take a big risk, and even if we don’t get caught I will be super stressed in the run up to the flight, during and whilst waiting for the case.
my partner is playing down the risk but this is not something I’m willing to compromise on.
I know my partner has travelled with friends when carrying these drugs in their bag and the friends have not had an issue with it.
does anyone have any advice Please .

Aso, suggesting Ads for a holiday won't work unless he starts at least 2 weeks in advance. While the plural of anecdote is not data, I know from DP that it takes longer for them to kick in than to stop working if you're late with your prescription. Hence I monitor like a hawk.

I don't think you understand micro-dosing.

no-longer gets the hit from the mushrooms! 😁

Partner ..well at least your not married
What happens when you have children and he's of his face ,will he be able to care for them.
What happens when he no longer gets the hit from mushrooms and moves on to harder drugs .
But yeah ...I'd not be travelling with him

Say you dont understand micro dosing without saying the words. I don't understand microdosing.

Just a preachy, blanket, drugs are bad mmkay.

Peak mumsnet

regardless on your stance on drugs, taking them on a flight is the height of stupidity

Don't disagree.

But the misinformation about drugs on MN is awful.

Thanks, are there different rules for different countries then?

Very different penalties! And different detection methods.

I sometimes watch that programme about customs officials in different countries and in no way would I smuggle anything illegal. Especially drugs.

Well yes, druggies are not known for their intelligent choices!

Blizzardofleaves · 10/12/2025 15:53

Op where is the future with this loser exactly? How are you going to have a future or children with a man like this?

I wouldn’t risk my job, livelihood and a custodial sentence to accommodate this under any circumstances.

I also couldn’t bear to be with a druggie. He will argue they are harmless. That isn’t true is it.

Ohhhthedrama · 10/12/2025 15:55

Where are you going?. You might be able to find a mushroom dispensary or order online.

This.

There are more enlightened countries that don't have draconian attitudes to recreational drugs.

Fairly representative of the country, I'd say.

I used to work at BUPA Gatwick Park back when it was a hospital just outside Gstwick, I was a night sister there. We had a contract with the airport so most nights some poor sod would be hauled in for a xray to detect drugs in his bowels and a lovely strip search by a guard with large hands reaching up his abuse. I can tell you it was no fun at all.
The sniffer dogs can smell mushrooms a mile off. In later years I worked in the medical unit of the men's prison in the area and there were plenty in there banged up for taking drugs in and out of the country.
Trust me, you will NOT get away with it.

simplesimoneatspie · 10/12/2025 16:08

well I can already see the effects of recreational drugs playing out in this thread …delusion and lack of reasoning are two such!

Sassylovesbooks · 10/12/2025 16:09

In Turkey you can't set foot inside the airport without having everything x-rayed, and then again at security and then again before boarding the aircraft. We had to take every electronic device out of our bags and it was all individually swabbed. Our hand luggage was all swabbed before boarding too. I was stopped at Kos airport security last year and my hand luggage swabbed. It doesn't matter if your partner microdoses, the drugs will be picked up upon. It may be by swabbing or it could be sniffer dogs. Yes, most countries have their own drug laws, which differ on severity. Your partner would be taking a huge risk, he would be far better finding a legal alternative. Unfortunately, if he were to be detained because drugs are found, you, by association could be searched/detained too.

OK, that's 10% of the country.

What about the other 42% ?

Of course there are. What we would consider a pretty standard pain killer can be illegal elsewhere. In some countries you can be imprisoned for possessing codiene.

AliceMaforethought · 10/12/2025 16:15

I can understand your concern. I wish that our drug laws weren't so antiquated, but it is what it is.

I am happy with our drugs laws thanks

Agapornis · 10/12/2025 16:19

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:46

Yes. For a small amount of mushrooms it can vary from a night in prison (the Netherlands) - to several years or decades in jail, potentially with caning (Singapore). Some have the death penalty. Even in countries where possession of psilocybin mushrooms is partially decriminalised (Spain), there is still a punishment for importing them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_psilocybin_mushrooms this map should help you.

If he does decide to smuggle them, he should not try to hide it in a hidden compartment. Don't make it look dodgy. Maybe put it in with some other food.

MrsVBS · 10/12/2025 16:19

Would be an absolute no from me, your partner has no clue what they are looking for and if it isn’t a problem it wouldn’t be illegal to take them through, also a lot of countries have a much harder stand on this sort of thing, I’d be a nervous wreck and wouldn’t go.

Grammarnut · 10/12/2025 16:19

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:46

There are indeed different rules for different countries and you and DH could find yourself in very unpleasant situations carrying illegal drugs. Some countries have the death penalty for this. Others have prisons you won't enjoy at all and
make UK prison look wonderful.
Do not do this.
