My partner, magic mushrooms and our holiday

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:45

My partner micro doses magic mushrooms daily for mental health reasons (depression). I don’t have an issue with this.
however we are planning our first holiday. Nothing is booked yet but they have said they are planning to take some mushrooms for use there which makes sense but it hadn’t crossed my mind.
im not comfortable travelling with someone who is carrying something illegal. I don’t want to be implicated or get into trouble. I would lose my job.
my partner understands to a point but says this is not what the airport security are looking for and they won’t get caught.
I agree the risk is low however that’s not the point. They are asking me to take a big risk, and even if we don’t get caught I will be super stressed in the run up to the flight, during and whilst waiting for the case.
my partner is playing down the risk but this is not something I’m willing to compromise on.
I know my partner has travelled with friends when carrying these drugs in their bag and the friends have not had an issue with it.
does anyone have any advice Please .

You can’t outlaw nature for existing as it always has.

Grow a cannabis plant and come back to me then.

Not every one is.

Thanks for your pointless, judgy input.

Putting halocegenics into your body is unhealthy. Also, just because you like doing something it doesn't mean you should do it.
Moral point - not judgy - we do not always do the things we might enjoy/do enjoy for moral reasons and because it will harm others even if it doesn't harm us. A little imagination will show where not following this moral rule leads.

Why the fuck should anybody be judged on YOUR morals?

You're judgy because you don't understand anything about the benefits that micro dosing "halocegenics" have. If you did, you wouldn't say its unhealthy!. Its been helping people with a variety of ailments including mental health for decades.

Sadly you and others who share your judgy morals are preventing people from easy access to help.

Putting hallucinogenics into your body is unhealthy.

How so ? Pray tell ?

Putting refined sugar into your body is unhealthy.
Putting ultra processed food into your body is unhealthy.

It's genuinely not, unless you have some sort of evidence like the results of a study? It's tiny quantities that are hallucinogenic, for one thing.

I wasn't being judgy. I was making the point that we should not always do as we like. A little thought will tell you where allowing everyone to do as they like, whatever it is, leads. It's not a good place.
And cannabis is a mind-altering substance that can cause depression, lack of concentration etc. It's not good for you.

I am living proof of the benefits. I literally would have committed suicide if I hadn't discovered it.

Im not alone either.

You're right. I hate druggies too.

Im not taking them for the fun of it. Again you dont understand. You seem to think people like me just want to get high.

Again more misunderstanding and misinformation!

You dont even realise we're talking about Psilocybin NOT cannabis (which is medically prescribed these days)

SpaceRaccoon · 11/12/2025 16:34

I'm the first to say I'm unkeen on people smoking the articificially high in THC strains of cannabis - that I think is a problem, but it's got nothing to do with mushrooms.

Hallucinogenics*

EarthSight · 11/12/2025 16:57

Absolutely don't travel with them if you know they're going to be bringing these. It's a class A substance, classed like heroin.

In other countries, drug possession sentences can be draconian. You risk getting co-convicted, even if you are yourself not carrying.

Technically, so is taking ibuprofen, paracetamol or taking migraine medicine. The difference between medicine and poison is often the dosage.

I've never taken these mushrooms and don't intend to, but what I've read about them is impressive. It's not quite the magic cure for all sorts of things that some people think they're going to be, at least in my opinion, but they can do impressive things that I don't think any other drug or medicine can, such as increase communication between your two brain hemispheres, activity which lessens as you age. One controlled trip is enough to last people months, because just the memory of some trips is enough to make some people not feel as alone, and unlike trying to get off various anti-depressants, they're not addictive.

I think this is a bit simplistic. Yes it can and I'm not a cannabis fan at all - as in wouldn't touch the stuff myself, but I can't deny that in many people it also has medicinal properties and in some people both medicinal and side effects which may or may not be worth putting up with.

Hallucinogenics may be unhelpful and harmful to some people, but others undoubtedly benefit and the ops partner may be one off those.

Antidepressants can be helpful. They can also cause PSSD, contribute to suicidality and be hideous to get back off (see the Maudsley deprescribing guidelines). This is often undersold by the medical profession.

I take it you want alcohol and cigarettes banned too then? If not, your position is totally illogical, because the fact they’re legal doesn’t mean they’re not harmful.
