My partner, magic mushrooms and our holiday

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:45

My partner micro doses magic mushrooms daily for mental health reasons (depression). I don’t have an issue with this.
however we are planning our first holiday. Nothing is booked yet but they have said they are planning to take some mushrooms for use there which makes sense but it hadn’t crossed my mind.
im not comfortable travelling with someone who is carrying something illegal. I don’t want to be implicated or get into trouble. I would lose my job.
my partner understands to a point but says this is not what the airport security are looking for and they won’t get caught.
I agree the risk is low however that’s not the point. They are asking me to take a big risk, and even if we don’t get caught I will be super stressed in the run up to the flight, during and whilst waiting for the case.
my partner is playing down the risk but this is not something I’m willing to compromise on.
I know my partner has travelled with friends when carrying these drugs in their bag and the friends have not had an issue with it.
does anyone have any advice Please .

Depends where you are going.

Lm4065 · 10/12/2025 11:46

Thanks, are there different rules for different countries then?

It would be a huge no from me.

I mean if you risk it you could always fly separately to the same destination and meet up once you're outside airports etc.

Partner ..well at least your not married
What happens when you have children and he's of his face ,will he be able to care for them.
What happens when he no longer gets the hit from mushrooms and moves on to harder drugs .
But yeah ...I'd not be travelling with him

Dramatic much @Pinkchristmastree1 🙄

BillieWiper · 10/12/2025 11:48

Of course they could get caught. I'd be crapping myself. I always, always get pulled over at airports. They look for all illegal drugs, not just cannabis or coke.

How's he going to hide it?

_nellie_ · 10/12/2025 11:48

Maybe both of you book the flights separately for peace of mind so if he does get caught you won’t have the association of being under the same booking

LoudSnoringDog · 10/12/2025 11:49

Where are you going?

Haha
thats not what micro dosing means or what happens to people who use natural substances to manage mental health conditions but sure

Well on my way back from Lanzarote last time through a local airport, the police were waiting with drugs sniffer dogs for someone & then happened to catch a few other random people who were probably carrying drugs of some kind for their own use, including a couple in their late 60s. Those dogs are very alert!!
I wouldn’t risk it myself.

NancyMitfordsLeftGlove · 10/12/2025 11:51

To answer your question if he did get caught it wouldn't impact on you legally as long as you weren't carrying anything and he didn't implicate you. But it would be better if he found an alternative solution for the period you're away.

KimHwn · 10/12/2025 11:51

I think mushrooms and microdosing are amazing and very beneficial for MH, but I wouldn't risk this. They are (ridiculously imo) a Class A drug.

Therapee · 10/12/2025 11:51

Could they post it to the holiday address?

puppyparent · 10/12/2025 11:52

Not worth the risk. If he insists, either travel separately or give it a miss

Yup. I just checked online, sniffer dogs do detect shrooms.

Agree. I don't do it but think it's ludicrous that they are class A. So I wouldn't be happy about being on the same booking. Can't he just take some time off?

happysinglemama · 10/12/2025 11:56

Never heard of these before!!! oh well I learn everyday!! I have just googled they're illegal!!! You will definitely lose your job so it's your choice here boyfriend or your career??

MarginWalker · 10/12/2025 12:03

I would travel separately for peace of mind. If it’s making you anxious, I’d just fly separately. I get why he’s not nervous, though. Odds of being picked up for them seem incredibly low.

Hibernatingtilspring · 10/12/2025 12:07

He's being incredibly naive. Whilst his use/intent may seem minor, and there are credible arguments that the law is well out of date - from a legal standpoint it's still the equivalent of him taking a personal supply of crack or heroin on his jollies. Very stupid to take that risk and I agree I wouldn't want to travel with him.

My partner uses small amounts of edibles in a similar way, I'm not against the use per se, but he would never do so away from home!

You really don’t know anything about mushrooms or microdosing do you?

Exactly, there's nothing wrong with microdosing. However there's something very stupid about taking what is currently classified as a class A through airports.

Lurkingandlearning · 10/12/2025 12:30

I was going to suggest this but then I thought about him getting caught somehow during your holiday. I really wouldn’t want to get dragged into that.

I know depression is different to being unhappy and the happiness of being on holiday probably won’t make much difference. But if it really wouldn’t and going is dependent upon him breaking laws that have serious consequences, is it worth bothering with?

333FionaG · 10/12/2025 12:31

Can he get the same effect from something legal? Is it worth him having a chat with his GP? The implications of being caught with class A drugs can be severe.

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 10/12/2025 12:36

Mumsnet’s a different bloody world when it comes to drugs, I swear! Always such ‘cool’, laissez-faire attitude to them. I must live an incredibly sheltered life as I’ve never heard of using magic mushrooms to treat depression! How do people even discover this shit?!

OP, I wouldn’t be travelling with him. Book the flights separately, you don’t want to implicate yourself if he gets caught.

I wouldn't say that, there's a lot of strong opinions on the damage done by the cocaine trade, for example. And rightly so. To my mind mushrooms are different.

Still wouldn't take them though an airport though. Or travel with anyone who did.
