No. Grow up.

Cleo65 · 18/10/2025 16:07

How deeply unpleasant.....

ComfortFoodCafe · 18/10/2025 16:07

No. If you dont like her, actually tell her and do something about it.

DramaQueenlady · 18/10/2025 16:10

menopausalfart · 18/10/2025 16:10

crazeekat · 18/10/2025 16:12

Hahaha I’m totally amused at this but can’t actually think of anything lol

Octavia64 · 18/10/2025 16:12

Don’t do it.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 18/10/2025 16:13

What does she absolutely love? Give us a bit of ammunition to start with?

I love a bit of vindictiveness.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/10/2025 16:13

What a horrible way to treat a 70yo woman, maybe it’s time for some self reflection on why you would be planning this two months in advance.

zipadeedodah · 18/10/2025 16:13

Wrinkle Cream?

TheyRepulseMe · 18/10/2025 16:14

An ironing board? I have no idea if this is even passive aggressive but it was the first thing that came to mind 🤣

zipadeedodah · 18/10/2025 16:15

What did she buy you for christmas?

olderandnonthewiser · 18/10/2025 16:17

Whereas you’re the loveliest of DILs.

Bit ageist to claim that because she's 70 she must be a pleasant doting old frail granny stereotype 👀

dicentra365 · 18/10/2025 16:17

Honestly the best way to deal with this is not to put as much thought into it as you are. Grab some wine and chocs while doing your supermarket shop, or add her as your extra gift when you’re doing a Boots 3 for 2 deal. Then get on with living your best life. Even better just leave it to your partner.

Agreed.

Oh FFS lighten up on this thread, people. MILs can also be awful, and buying a slightly pass ag present is hardly great sociopathic evil. There are countless threads on here at Xmas about the awful presents some people receive!

My MIL once bought me rubber car mats for Christmas when she got everyone else lovely perfumes and chocolates. It just made me laugh and I still always try to get her something she likes, but occasionally a slightly pointed charity goat wouldn’t go amiss! 😆

Tryingatleast · 18/10/2025 16:20

I’d agree just chocolate and a candle and then get on with life

Rogerthat14 · 18/10/2025 16:20

Ghastly

Not at all, older people deserve respect

I let dh sort his mother’s last year for the first time. I had gotten bored organising nice present and getting token presents whereas dh got well thought of presents and thanks for getting her nice present. Dh got her a box of biscuits from Sainsbury’s.

Catpiece · 18/10/2025 16:23

She doesn’t like you does she?

😆 OP maybe that’s all it needs, leaving it to your DP and then handing it to MIL with a breezy “DP is so looking forward to you opening the present he got you — even I don’t know what it is!” Cue petrol station man item.

This is the way. Either make it DP's responsibility to buy his DM a gift. Make sure she knows is DP's job to do his side of the family and then just let it go and take up no space in your mind.

Or go basics - chocs, wine, candle or smellies. As @dicentra365 said use the free item on the boots 3 for 2 offer for the smellies, pick whichever nice chocolate box is on sale (you don't even have to get the chocs she likes, just whichever is on sale), ditto the wine.

Either way, don't dedicate any brain space to it.

Irritatedandsad · 18/10/2025 16:32

Aasuming this is a joke thread and you are just airing your frustrations with MIL by imagining the perfect present to irritate her, when really you will get her the usual Chocolates and Scarf from M & S.
Assuming that is the spirit of the thread then I think for her imaginary present you can buy her the new Skims Fluffy Thong, to keep her warm for the winter.
