Photo posted of children without my consent

Hi,
I recently posted about my Narcissistic MIL. She had got angry about me not posting a photograph of her hijacking my two DDs first look at my wedding. She ruined part of my day by sabotaging a first look between my DDs and she can’t seem to understand why I am upset about it and she decided to call me horrible names and say things to belittle me.
Well, yesterday she changed her profile photo on Facebook to the photo I never wanted to post. It wasn’t supposed to happen and she had access to it from a private album of our wedding photos. Where do I stand with this? I have reported it to Facebook for violating my privacy as I haven’t given her consent to post an image of myself and my children, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. I’m just not sure how to take further action.

OP posts:

God. Why are weddings these days such a fucking performance?

Calliopespa · 01/09/2025 19:46

That’s not the point I’m trying to get at. My MIL went against my wishes.

Woe betide MIL. You sound seriously controlling OP.

You live quite a sheltered life if you don't know what a content creator is.

I can guess, is it to do with fake crap on social media?

FastMauveQuoter · 01/09/2025 19:51

The older I get, the more I'm getting left behind! Content creator? When did weddings get so ridiculous. Don't even know what this is or why it matters. If only folks realised how short and precious life is, they wouldn't waste time on such nonsense.

MrsVinceVega · 01/09/2025 19:52

I wonder how many parents are going to bring content creators to their child's first day at school this week?

The writer almost certainly has heard the phrase before--just not in the context of a wedding. A wedding is not a reality show.

Sad that so many don't put the same effort into their marriage.

Starzinsky · 01/09/2025 19:59

Worse things to get worked up about when it comes to family.

Or they will have had their CC on call since the cord was cut, first poo, first strop, first haircut etc etc, the list could be endless.

BustyLaRoux · 01/09/2025 18:49

Can anyone show me the posts were people got triggered by the mention of a content creator at a wedding please? I mean, I can imagine people pissing themselves laughing or rolling their eyes, but has anyone said they were “triggered”? How very bizarre!

Also, is anyone else feeling sorry for the newly wed husband here??? He must be wondering what on earth he’s got himself into!

OP, you sound nuts!

social media obsessed people use it as a deflection from their dodgy views.

GreyTS · 01/09/2025 20:04

Flakey99 · 01/09/2025 16:06

Ugh. Dragging an 11yr old into social media one-upmanship drama with your MIL is pretty shit parenting.

This! Honestly kids are so fucked if this is what parenting looks like now. Falling out with family over social media nonsense, you are an actual monster

MrsVinceVega · 01/09/2025 20:05

I also think the OP doesn't really understand the meaning of 'triggered'.

What has happened here is that people are laughing at you. We are not experiencing strong feelings of fear, shock, anger or worry at the thought of how spoiled you are.

NewYearSameMe16 · 01/09/2025 20:08

MN is actually becoming a cesspit. Someone posts a harmless thread about a wedding photo and receives 200+ replies saying they’re a shit mother, a dick, batshit, etc. Clearly you are all triggered if you’re replying with such nasty comments!

Most of you obviously haven’t been online much in 2025 so hope this helps:

  1. A first look (something her DD wanted to do) is becoming a common part of modern weddings. It’s literally capturing the first time a loved one sees the bride. You’d think the OP had asked for pic of her and DD doing a Nazi salute or summoning Satan going by these responses.
  2. A content creator is the new term for a videographer; they will also do a few shorter edits for social media. It’s the OP’s wedding and if she wants to capture some special/fun moments, it’s up to her, YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OR WATCH THE VIDEOS.

OP for what it’s worth, your MIL had no right to spoil the moment, then be rude about you not posting the pic of the ruined moment and then post that pic without your consent. Any normal person can see that’s totally inappropriate behaviour. You should remove her access to the photos and you and/or your husband need to have some firm words with her as her general attitude sounds awful. If she doesn’t apologise, remove the pic and you see a change in her attitude, you should limit contact.

Mistyglade · 01/09/2025 20:09

Having read the link to her previous post I’m more concerned with her having married the abusive prick and now desperately trying to convince the world and herself she’s happy. Very worrying.

The word triggered, that is.

Lookylooper · 01/09/2025 20:11

OneCalmReader · 01/09/2025 15:57

I’m not sure why people are triggered about having a content creator at my wedding or the fact my 11 year old wanted to record a first look. That’s not the point I’m trying to get at. My MIL went against my wishes.

Because this is Mumsnet and the anonymity of it brings out the bitch in a lot of people.

Of course this is about your MIL going against your wishes - totally out of order and thoughtless behaviour making it all about her - but someone started a theme of sneering at something that's different to what they would have wanted at their wedding and everyone else has jumped on the bandwagon.

Also known as: a load of unnecessary bollocks centred around a wedding that people waste a shitload of money on to gain the attention of nitwits.

Why does it bother you? It wasn't your wedding, neither were you invited to it. Sit down.

I don't think she is coming back.

Is that relevant to the thread? Is that even what 95% of the replies mention? If the posters were concerned about OP’s marriage, throwing cheap digs about her being social media obsessed is not the way to show it.

Fair enough but unless you pop to a registry office in your lunch break wearing normal clothes with only the very closest people in your lives present, you can argue 99% of anything to do with a wedding is ‘unnecessary bollocks’

Mjayy101 · 01/09/2025 20:24

JLou08 · 01/09/2025 19:46

If you didn't post pictures of your DC on social media I'm sure lots of people would be supporting you and saying MIL is out of order.
The fact you had a content creator suggests that you were planning to publicly share images/videos of your children. Therefore, you lose the moral highground around children's images being shared without consent.

Not really, what if she wanted to be the one to post first? I’d certainly want to be the first person posting me in my wedding dress and my kids in it too, it’s not always as simple as that

Of course it’s relevant.. a wedding is one day, it’s the marriage that matters.

JFC!

I now know what a content creator is. Are digital creators similar, if not what are they? There seems to be a lot on my FB pages.
