Photo posted of children without my consent

Hi,
I recently posted about my Narcissistic MIL. She had got angry about me not posting a photograph of her hijacking my two DDs first look at my wedding. She ruined part of my day by sabotaging a first look between my DDs and she can’t seem to understand why I am upset about it and she decided to call me horrible names and say things to belittle me.
Well, yesterday she changed her profile photo on Facebook to the photo I never wanted to post. It wasn’t supposed to happen and she had access to it from a private album of our wedding photos. Where do I stand with this? I have reported it to Facebook for violating my privacy as I haven’t given her consent to post an image of myself and my children, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. I’m just not sure how to take further action.

OP posts:

Whatever happened on your wedding day is not the issue - it's the fact that MIL has deliberately posted a photo when you asked her not to.

Fuck me OP, is this all you have to worry about ? By the sound of things unless you chill out and take a step back you’re going to spend the rest of your life warring with your MiL.

No, it’s not all she’s got to worry about. I suspect she’s placing such a huge emphasis on the wedding because it keeps her inner monologue from screaming warnings at her about the marriage.

This sounds quite bizarre.

First look at births? How does that work? Up your vag?

😂

I've got no patience for people who make a big song and dance about how they curate their online image. It's self-obsessed.

MyLimeGuide · 01/09/2025 19:04

I dont think the crazy lady is coming back.

PLEASE do not put ideas into people's heads. I still have to brace myself when I'm expected to coo over ultrasound pictures - what fresh hell might you have unleashed, here?

So you wanted to police people over what they would be allowed to see of what the photographer seeing her seeing you photographed? And your child has been taught that it's incredibly important to control what people see of what the photographer seeing her as she was seeing you since you put on a nice frock and had your hair done saw - and that other people really, really want to see what the photographer saw of her as she saw you and the MIL seeing what the photographer would have seen or even saw as she was seeing you and allowing other people to see that is an unforgivable offence when anybody can see that you have oversight over all seeing?

Can anybody else see what exactly the problem is here?

my eldest daughter wanted my content creator and photographer to capture a first look of me as a bride. My MIL rudely walked into the room with them, going against my wishes. So I decided I didn’t want the photos and videos posted because she went against my wishes. She can’t respect this

I'm sorry, what now?! Seriously I don't know what you are on about. Whole thing sounds insufferably pretentious. Just get married. Are you in the US? Are you very famous? What a load of absolute nonsense!!

OneCalmReader · 01/09/2025 15:57

I’m not sure why people are triggered about having a content creator at my wedding or the fact my 11 year old wanted to record a first look. That’s not the point I’m trying to get at. My MIL went against my wishes.

Naughty mother in law, smack wrist. Nobody died, move on. It all sounds overly dramatic for the wedding of someone who has kids.

I don't think people are triggered as such! 😂

Bridezilla much?

💯🙄

It's a completely staged moment where people are forced to put on an over the top display of awe at just how stunning the bride is in her wedding dress.

Sounds like the episode of Keeping Up Appearances where Hyacinth wanted the neighbour, Elizabeth?, to take a first look at her table setting and feign surprise and delight!

Bridezilla much?

Too right :-).

OP: "...my 11 year old wanted to record a first look". i have never heard of anything so risible!

ThisIsHowWeDoItThisIsHowWeDoIt · 01/09/2025 19:21

Your poor kids.

cinnamonda · 01/09/2025 19:25

OP are you 12?

Pdam · 01/09/2025 19:29

Your "content creator" ... "first look" christ 🤣 you realise no one actually gives a shite about your wedding or photos apart from you, your husband (at a push) and your parents, no one else really cares, anyone who wanted a look attended your wedding 🤣. Poor mil.

JudgeJ · 01/09/2025 19:30

CatHealy · 01/09/2025 17:39

And in a few years this will be a normal part of life over here just like all the other money leaching crap we have inherited from the US.

Only if people allow it to become a part of life! We seem to have taken so many things on board surrounding weddings births etc, someone somewhere is making loads of money. The only way to stop it is for people not to be lead by the nose and then complain about costs.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 01/09/2025 15:52

"Content creator"

I have heard it all now. 😂You win the internet today.

You live quite a sheltered life if you don't know what a content creator is.

CaroleLandis · 01/09/2025 19:37

Your poor mother in law must be exasperated at your antics.

PrincessofWells · 01/09/2025 19:37

Op seriously is this the hill on which you choose to die?

You sound utterly narcissistic and I am feeling warm thoughts toward your mother in law who clearly sees you . . .

WhitePudding · 01/09/2025 19:37

Just when you think you’ve heard it all…

I despair of this social media content creator nonsense. Do you do get ready with me and dish up my tea too?

The mil is the least of the problems, poor woman.

Edited

Content creator is just someone who posts shit on facebook and instagram and tiktok, to try and get money for promoting it.

Mjayy101 · 01/09/2025 19:40

OP can I ask what you mean with first look? Like, when you were ready with dress on, dad /mum or in your case kids get to see you first? If that’s the case, what happened for her to hijack it? Did you explain what you wanted to happen?
also keep reporting to Facebook, and tell your MIL to remove it asap, if not then get your husband to tell her cause I hate social media and do not want my kids on it either, so I would personally hate this myself

You're seriously over estimating the importance of your wedding to anyone else but you.

JLou08 · 01/09/2025 19:46

If you didn't post pictures of your DC on social media I'm sure lots of people would be supporting you and saying MIL is out of order.
The fact you had a content creator suggests that you were planning to publicly share images/videos of your children. Therefore, you lose the moral highground around children's images being shared without consent.
