Hi,
I recently posted about my Narcissistic MIL. She had got angry about me not posting a photograph of her hijacking my two DDs first look at my wedding. She ruined part of my day by sabotaging a first look between my DDs and she can’t seem to understand why I am upset about it and she decided to call me horrible names and say things to belittle me.
Well, yesterday she changed her profile photo on Facebook to the photo I never wanted to post. It wasn’t supposed to happen and she had access to it from a private album of our wedding photos. Where do I stand with this? I have reported it to Facebook for violating my privacy as I haven’t given her consent to post an image of myself and my children, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. I’m just not sure how to take further action.

OP posts:

There's something very "glass houses" about someone with a "content creator" calling someone else a narcissist Grin

itsgettingweird · 01/09/2025 18:02

You’re cutting off your nose to despite your face.

Yes MIL has boundary issues. However you are refusing to share a photo of you in your dress after getting dressed because she was there at the “first look”.

Really?!

Every single person had their own “first look” at you that day. Some when you were dressed, some at church and some at the reception.

Stop allowing this to dominate your happiness over the day and focus on your DH and children.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/09/2025 17:52

That'll be most of us.

I'm a retired midwife, which was a real job.

I cannot recall any "content creators" attending any of the babies' births with which I was associated, though.

PLEASE do not put ideas into people's heads. I still have to brace myself when I'm expected to coo over ultrasound pictures - what fresh hell might you have unleashed, here?

nowahousewife · 01/09/2025 18:04

Have not read this whole thread but just googled first look photos and all I can say is “really?”

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 01/09/2025 18:05

Here4thechocs · 01/09/2025 17:12

You’ll be surprised how much money they make. Interesting times we live in, I tell you.
it’s basically why nothing appears off limits anymore. People put everything out there, just for the views. “Content “

Oh, I'm not surprised at all. I suppose I just yearn for a simpler time when you had a photographer and maybe someone to take a video, and the charm was really in the event itself and connecting with the people who were there to see your happiness, rather than the posting of the highlights afterwards.

Macarena1980 · 01/09/2025 18:05

I think you’re being a bit petty about this, she’s your MIL and wants to share something nice about your wedding, take it as a compliment.

Evenstar · 01/09/2025 18:06

How very strange that OP hasn’t enabled voting! I would be definitely be YABU I have never heard anything like this, and find it very sad that an 11 year old knows anything about this nonsense.

Sahara123 · 01/09/2025 18:07

My first look would’ve consisted of me looking uncomfortable and self conscious in a white meringue, with too much makeup on which someone did for me and I rubbed most of it off, and my mother in the background tutting at some inexplicable faux pas that I had apparently committed with my underskirt 🤣 1980’s princess Diana style !

Comeonbabyblue · 01/09/2025 18:09

If your children are under 13 (i think) Facebook will take it down. There's a way to do it on the desktop version rather than the app and you send a url to the photo and state the age of your children and what's happening in the photo whi else is in it and why you want it removed. Seems to take 24 to 48 hours but they do it and if they dont you just keep requesting it.

Content creator is just a fancy word for posting shit on social media.

Wins the thread!
🏅

Brilliant!!

Wow, Mumsnet is full of nasty people judging the OP.
Many brides have first looks, (even I did and I got married in 2000) many brides have content creators. It’s the joy of weddings now

get your dh to tell her to take the photo down now, block her on all social media and do not allow her access to any of your photos.

keep reporting it to Facebook.

It's the joy of weddings now

It doesn't seem to be creating much joy for this one. Just a load of aggro.

allmymonkeys · 01/09/2025 18:12

OP, your MIL may have put that picture on her profile page to annoy you, because the idea amuses her. Don't bite.

MrMucker · 01/09/2025 18:13

She's validating her grandmother status on Facebook with a lovely picture of the grandkids. This is what grandmothers do ffs!
You are way too invested in your online activity to react appropriately to a very commonplace and human occurrence.

This is happening way too much now and makes me sad and scared for the future of humankind.

JustSawJohnny · 01/09/2025 18:15

This is really quite a tiny thing to be fixated on, IMO.

You can't let the memory of your big day be tainted by a totally staged moment, designed purely for 'the Gram' not going to plan.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/09/2025 18:16

I've been Googling first look photos.
This is the first one I found.

I mean - it's shit, isn't it? Embarrassingly so.

The joy of weddings now so me centric. The joy of weddings used to be about marrying the one you love, it really is just an excuse for some to have their 'princess for a day month year' temper tantrum isn't it..
@OneCalmReader was this your welcome sign?

Get your DH to deal with his mother.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/09/2025 18:20

OMG

"Welcome to Emilie's Wedding" (in giant letters)

[.......... featuring Jon (in such small print you could easily miss it)]

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Get your DH to deal with his mother.

Yes, when he's not slut-shaming you.

JohnTheRevelator · 01/09/2025 18:22

What does 'first look' mean?

runningonberocca · 01/09/2025 18:22

” Content creator”, “ first look” - enough said. What a pile of narcissistic nonsense. Please don’t model this for your children

MrsMickey · 01/09/2025 18:27

I’ve got a whole theory on this post… maybe the post is by the content creator, in the hope this will go viral and get picked up by local news??? With the photo in the papers…???

Mrseasy · 01/09/2025 18:28

OP, how do you enjoy a day when it’s all about creating content? Why do you do that? Genuine question

Also, is this true @Lavender14?

Facebook financially profit from this and sell rights to "public" images shared on their platform to 3rd parties

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 01/09/2025 18:32

This has got to be one of those "joke" posts, surely. I don't think we can take you seriously op. Nobody is this anal in rl, are they? 😂

CountryMouse22 · 01/09/2025 18:32

'won't give a shiney shit'
LOL!
