Turning up 30 minutes late

Picked me up in his car and insisted on keeping the windows open. It was February/March time. After I shivered for ages he eventually admitted he'd been a bit nervous about our date last night and had a few pints of Guinness to calm his nerves which were playing havoc with his guts.

I didn't mind the windows being down after all.

I went on a first date with a guy I’d fancied for YEARS. I spilled my first drink over the table, my second over him and then dropped my dinner in my lap!

We went out for quite some time and are still friends now but it was mortifying!

🤣 🤣

Again, again why has MN removed the laugh emoji? So want to give you a sympathetic laugh at this one. 😂

A sympathetic laughGrin

Tinder date. Guy said he was 5ft7 but really was max 5ft3 at a push. I am 5ft 8

Turned up with lots of valentines style gifts in a Tesco bag and shoved a red teddy bear that smelt of wee into my hands before even saying hello.

Was it at least Valentines day?

Judiezones · 19/08/2025 21:51

I'm so ashamed of this but my friends thought it was hilarious.
My cousin had a friend I'd met once when I was staying at my auntie's for a week when I'd just finished my O levels. He was 2 years older than me and I thought he was quite cute. A couple of years later he was in my area and arranged through my cousin to take me out for a drink. I didn't know he'd grown an enormous beard in the meantime and when I opened the front door to him, all excited to see him, and saw the big hairy face, I screamed and slammed the door.
I did try to apologise via a letter but I never saw or heard from him again. I'm horrible.

Just why do they lie about their height? It's not like they can fake being tall!

I know and i do not mind about height at all. But why lie when you will be found out?? Unless he thinks he actually is 5ft7??

We sat in a coffee shop and he spent the entire date talking about his old houseshare and explaining which Seinfeld character matched each housemate.

Well almost the entire date. He wanted to play a trivia game where I would name any city in the world and he would list every sporting team from that city.

I saw him again as I was in my late 20s and had been single for years and was desperate. We’ve been married for 16 years and have 3 kids and he is the nicest and most interesting man I have any met. He can’t even remember what we talked about on our first date so I have never been able to get an explanation.

If you hadn't said you'd married him, it could easily have been my husband!

I had a bloke argue with me that he’s definitely 5’11 (more like 5’8) and say I must be the one who got my height wrong 😂

Im 5’7 and both my ExH and DS are 6ft so I have a pretty good idea of what 5’11 looks like and he wasn’t 🙈😂

I checked out his FB and there was a photo of him with a well known ex England footballer and he barely came up to his shoulder - the footballer is 6’2 according to wiki and was about 5/6 inches taller than the man.

FruitPoppet · 19/08/2025 22:25

Went out for an evening walk with someone I swapped numbers with at a party. I was 18, he was 23.

Within 5 minutes of us walking along the seaside road, someone threw a full cup of fizzy drink and ice out of a moving car and it hit him. He was drenched and sad and said he just wanted to go home, but asked if I would I like to go with him. I assumed we would get back to his and hang out or something, but after walking for 30 minutes we get to his door and he just says 'thanks' and goes inside, leaving me to walk myself 45 minutes home!

For those who might say he wasn't keen, he messaged me and hour later asking if I would be his girlfriend 😂

So so weird. Must be delusion. But surely they wonder how they keep ending up on dates with giantesses (to them)?

Pinkissmart · 19/08/2025 22:30

He looked me up and down with a thinly veiled look of disgust.

We did go on the date, and he asked for another. I said no

I had the same thing happen except I’m short too so we were eye to eye to really. But yeah his profile said 5ft 7 and he was maybe an inch taller than me and I’m 5ft 2.

He had also made comments about people letting themselves go in relationship which was a bit of a potential red flag , but even more confusing when I met him in person and I saw he was very chubby himself.

I didn’t care about his height or weight but the dishonesty and lack of self awareness was a turn off. I suspect he’s wilfully deluded

This one also said he was 54 hit in date mentioned him and his mates were going away for his 60th in June

I said that he’d told me he was 54 and he said it must have been a typo - only thing was his username was along lines of Dave1970.

Smart decision to turn down the offer . It’s scary but so many men will happily date, have sex with, and even enter relationships with women they look down on or even dislike/hate.

The trick is for woman to look at actions not words. If he shows he dislikes you - run. Because a man like that will not treat you well.

OLD. Hadn't twigged he was wearing a hat in all photos. Walking up to him, saw he had a big round shiny bald head, which by itself would have been fine, but he also had a couple of inches depth of longish very curly hair all the way round it from ear level down. Literally like a comedy clown wig. And his clothes were grubby.

😆😆😆😆

TwistedWonder · 19/08/2025 22:59

Another one that happened to a mate

She was meeting a man from OLD in a nice cafe bar near where we live. She arrived a bit early so went in and grabbed a table - he arrived a few minutes later wearing a very obvious wig.

He went to the bar to get drinks and on way back he tripped up step and his wig slipped. He didn’t realise and sat opposite her with a wonky wig !

Rainbowcat99 · 19/08/2025 23:03

She turned up with a friend and explained that she never went on dates alone because everybody who dated her found her so attractive that they couldn’t control themselves around her.
Needles to say I didn’t find her at all attractive but I did quite like the friend and spent most of the evening chatting to her. I couldn’t work out how to ask friend for her number without looking like a creep so never saw either of them again.

Idontneedanotherhero · 20/08/2025 12:26

I went on a first date and the guy brought his mum along as a chaperone!

mindutopia · 20/08/2025 13:31

I met him at his house (I didn’t go in, just stood in the doorway and then we walked to dinner, very early 00s when maybe internet dating was just barely a thing) and he wanted to show me his rice cooker. Because he was vegan and mostly existed on rice and loves rice and wanted to tell me all about his rice maker machine. I was like, okay, yep, very nice. We went to dinner at a restaurant of his choice in his neighbourhood. He, not surprisingly, got the pineapple fried rice because, you know, really into rice. And then conveniently must have left his bank card at home. So I paid for us both. 🙄

That was at least humorous and I could laugh about it when I got home. I went on a date with another guy, similar era. Met him at the cinema. Got to chatting in the car park as we arrived at the same time. He gave me such instantly creepy like serial killer sociopath vibes that I had to keep him talking so I could figure out how to pretend that my mum paged me (paged me! 😂) with an emergency and then I jumped in my car and got the hell out of there. About 2 years later, I was going through a list of convicted sexual offenders in a given neighbourhood for work (I worked in a child protection role) and there he was! Convicted for a violent rape and kidnapping that happened about 6 months after our very short date. 😳 This is why I never question my instincts. My gut said get the hell outta there.

I got off the train to meet someone and ran over to their silver car, got in, put my seatbelt on and turned to see that the driver wasn’t the guy I was meeting, wrong car 🙈 When I got out I heard a beep, the silver car behind.xxx

That is priceless.

Not on-topic but you've just reminded me of the time I sneaked up behind DH (then my boyfriend) in a busy market and gave his bum a little squeeze. But it wasn't him. Same height, similar hair, same jacket. I was so embarrassed, and the man was very nice about it. Never again in public.
