Which typically male interests/activities give you the ick?

Meant as a lighthearted thread, so hope nobody gets bent out of shape over this - also, I've added the disclaimer of 'typically' male to close off anyone taking umbrage with that... 😅

Dipped a toe back into OLD recently, and already feeling pretty exasperated with just how flipping dull a lot of men are. A lot of them that I've come across only seem to be interested in two things, football and going to the gym.

Maybe that's okay for some people, but these two things alone are enough to put me off. I hate football for a lot of reasons, namely the idiotic behaviour that a lot of football fans display, plus the fact that it's just so painfully boring to watch. I couldn't date a football fan, because being subjected to daily conversation about who was best at kicking a ball around would slowly drive me mad. Don't even get me started on fantasy football or 'accas'...

As for men who spend most their lives in the gym? Yawn. Nobody cares how many 'reps' you've done, or how tough 'leg day' was, Steve. Give me some proper intellectual stimulation, ffs!

Where are all the men who are interested in the arts, nature, books, photography, politics etc? Or even just sports that aren't as unbelievably boring as football? Or do they no longer exist?

So, tell me ladies. Am I alone here, or are there typical male interests that would really put you off a guy, no matter how attractive they might otherwise be?

My DH used to cycle 25 miles to work,6 months of the year,to keep fit,he's also done the London to Brighton cycle run for The British Heart Foundation,no lycra though
He didn't go through red lights or actually like an arsehole.

I knew the OP was going to say football was an "ick". Very original.
My turn offs are men who don't have any interests or hobbies. Also men who don't allow space for me to enjoy mine, which are football and F1.😊

I agree. Gives me the 'ick' with people in general when they don't have any interest. Yes, football, rugby, F1 and cycling are def must sees in our house.

Do you regularly come across many men who describe Hunter S Thompson as their favourite author? Strikes me as a bit niche…

There is absolutely a certain type of man who waxes lyrical about Hunter S Thompson, yes. Not especially niche - Penguin Modern Classics publish him!

Middle age men on the guitar, attention seeking bores.

I remember reading a thread last year where someone was moaning about their DH’s hobby and how much it took up of his time. She later revealed that he was a morris dancer. The thought of this women not only wanting to shag a morris dancer but married one lives rent free in my head. And will forever more.

Morris dancing is enjoying quite the renaissance these days. There are some kickass all female sides.

My particular ick is a passionate interest in really quite dull cars. My most recent ex used to go on at length about how much he loved his car and its great torque. It was a perfectly mundane, serviceable Vauxhall Corsa. I just couldn't help smelling the Magic Tree aisle at Halfords and feeling the corresponding ennui when he started yarping on about it.

Watch rugby, bleurgh.

@crackofdoom Well said for your comment on Morris Dancing. The market town I live in seems to have a Morris Dancing festival and it's remarkable how it is able to absorb influences from the Zeitgeist, e.g. punk/goth/metal influences. One of the most joyous moments of my life was when my best mate sent me a video of a load of clog dancers who turned up in a pub on a boozy night. If I hadn't been in Spain having a brilliant time, I'd've wished I were there. And, as for the traditional, hankie-waving lads: g'wan yerselves!

I agree he is well known, and I enjoyed F&L, but would never think to describe him as a favourite author. It’s a strange world.

Computer games, vaping and obsessive crypto dealing.

Agree
