I make about 3500 a month benefits and wages together, I pay 600 in childcare. Pay most bills , my partner gives me 500 a month , he says he shouldn't have to pay for kids clothes which is only for Xmas easter etc ,he thinks I should pay for it as I earn more he goes as far to say he shouldn't have to even pay 500 a month for help towards food rent and other essentials, I pay for kids activity's broadband, myself and sons mobile phone. Childcare , and food gas electric also , am I being unreasonable to be annoyed at this he earns around 2000 a month but because I get more money I should pay for all of it , I just want to no if this is a reasonable request on his part

He is responsible for 50% of the bills.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 29/03/2025 20:50

Is he the father of your dc? this is relevant I think.

Blackcountrychik83 · 29/03/2025 20:50

You have what they call a cocklodger on your hands …

cestlavielife · 29/03/2025 20:50

Is he their father?

notatinydancer · 29/03/2025 20:50

Of course he needs to contribute , ridiculous to say he doesn’t. What does he do with his money?

pikkumyy77 · 29/03/2025 20:51

Is this a joke? Why do you accept this level of contempt from your “partner?”

ainew201 · 29/03/2025 20:51

*he's the father to 2 of my children and has been in my oldest sons life from the age of 2 child is 11 now

Is he the dad? Does he live with you? If you earn more, unless you’re 50/50 on things then you might split it so that you pay more.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 29/03/2025 20:51

Does he live with you full time? Are there other relevant factors such as him wfh and using more electricity etc. If he lives with you full time as a starting point he should be paying half of the main utilities.

Stripeyanddotty · 29/03/2025 20:52

He’s a fucking abusive fucker.

cestlavielife · 29/03/2025 20:52

And depends what you buying if you spending £100 on a cute Easter outfit they will wear once then yeh good to discuss if is worth it . If it is £5 for a Easter party maybe fine.

Whatthefork20 · 29/03/2025 20:53

Sorry to be blunt but it’s the kind of mood I’m in tonight. What a fucking arsehole.

Stripeyanddotty · 29/03/2025 20:53

Can you get rid of him?

Lorie94 · 29/03/2025 20:54

does he live with you ?

ainew201 · 29/03/2025 20:54

He lives with me full time and father of my kids

I’m surprised that the household has an income of£5.5k per month and that some of this is benefits. Our household has a smaller income and I feel that we are comfortable - I would be surprised if we were entitled to any benefits.

cestlavielife · 29/03/2025 20:54

Anyway he needs to contribute for 2 dc and pay his way. So maybe 1500 to family pot at least

Lorie94 · 29/03/2025 20:55

Why do you get £3500 in benefits and wages ? Should it not be split between the both of you

Stripeyanddotty · 29/03/2025 20:55

So what does he want to do with his £2k per month?

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 29/03/2025 20:55

What the fuck? He's taking the piss.

Sulu17 · 29/03/2025 20:55

He is a tight git cocklodger and you are being used.

Scottishskifun · 29/03/2025 20:56

No you shouldn't be paying for everything that's insane he's responsible for his children including feeding and clothing them!
With a wage disparity sit down a do a budget each month (including clothes costs) and then do a ratio based on income per month.
It does sound like he's a cock lodger with why should he have to pay towards bills!

TwistedWonder · 29/03/2025 20:56

Seems like you’ve found yourself one of that increasingly common breed of lesser walleted cocklodger with arms shorter than his pockets.

Of course he should contribute. As he earns less maybe look at a pro rata amount each month but tbh why waste any more of your life with a tight arse scrounging off of you?

I can not believe the sheer number of women on MN who are happy to shack up with and procreate with these freeloading wankers

No I wouldn't spend that amount on clothes. The kids are young would grow out of them to quickly or would have them ruined 🙃
