Curious - if you're married, do you celebrate valentines?

Just that really, do married couples celebrate valentines day? When dating my dh always bought a card and a small gift but since we got married, nothing. Its literally a normal day. I used to buy him something small but I've now given up.
Just wondering if it's just us.

We do. DH always gets me a card and roses, I get him a card and chocolate. We go for lunch usually as dinner times always so busy and 3x the usual price😂

Wimpod · 14/02/2025 20:17

Nah.

Cadenza12 · 14/02/2025 20:17

Yes. We're as old as the hills but we get each other a card and DH bought me a box of chocolates.

I got DH a cheap card. He didn't but will probably buy me flowers later.

He also washed up even though it was my turn AND a horrible cast iron with cheese stuck to it.

Ladies considering partners... Pick the second thing over the first thing EVRY TIME.

100% this. I wish I could go back and tell my 20 year old self!

Andsoitbeganagain · 14/02/2025 20:18

No. Don't even acknowledge it.

Sarahbackinthesaddle · 14/02/2025 20:19

Yes, card, flowers, lunch out. Nothing too flashy but I like the sentiment.

GutsyGertrude · 14/02/2025 20:19

As someone who used to work in restaurants, I refuse to go out for dinner on valentines day. It's always the worst atmosphere. I hated working on valentines day and I have never gone out for it.

We got a takeaway with the kids plus cards and champagne

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/02/2025 20:20

TBF @CheeseWisely my 20 year old self dated musicians who were horribly unreliable. And never washed themselves, never mind pans. Married DH in my 30s (old and wise).

No. It’s for teenagers. You don’t need Hallmark to tell you when to show love and appreciation to your other half. I would be disappointed if my DH went through the formulaic motions. He can buy me flowers any other day.

Well of course, and my DH does buy me flowers every single month on the same day of the month, has done since one month after our first date. He would also scrub cheese off a cast iron when it's not his turn, and is currently out picking up our takeaway in the cold, having taken my car so he can fill it up on the way as the fuel light came on today.

Doesn't mean he can't also buy me a Valentines card 🤷🏻‍♀️

MaryGreenhill · 14/02/2025 20:21

No but l buy my Dds a present 🤣

PLHJ84 · 14/02/2025 20:22

No.

HMW1906 · 14/02/2025 20:23

Nope. We had a brief conversation earlier in the week about whether we were bothering and the consensus was that we couldn’t be bothered 🤷‍♀️.

Funnily enough, my pan washing, self washing, flower buying DH is a musician Grin I met him at 36.

In my 20s they were largely wankers, regardless of occupation Blush

Puttingoutfireswithgasoline · 14/02/2025 20:24

Nooooo.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/02/2025 20:25

@CheeseWisely

Well done Grin

Aparecium · 14/02/2025 20:25

Dh has given me flowers and a card on Valentine's ever since we started going out together. And ever since he moved in with me I have hidden chocolate hearts in his work bag for him to find during the day. Now that dh wfh I hide them in his shoes, slippers, headphones, coat pockets, wherever. He rarely finds them all on one day 😊

Printedword · 14/02/2025 20:25

Yes most definitely do. DH and I don't like to miss any opportunity to be romantic. Been married over 30 yrs

ZenNudist · 14/02/2025 20:26

We exchanged cards, DH bought me flowers and a lottery ticket! He wanted a take away but I cooked carbs as a treat!

Beetrooty · 14/02/2025 20:26

we swap cards. Dh buys flowers. I cook a 'posh' meal. I use that term loosely...
We never eat out.

ForAzureSeal · 14/02/2025 20:27

Make each other a card.

Aparecium · 14/02/2025 20:27

For nearly 30y. It's the single romantic bone in his body 😂

Mumoftwo2022 · 14/02/2025 20:27

Yes as it’s the day we “got together” it’s a lot more low key now married with 2 kids and we do something bigger for our wedding anniversary but we will always celebrate it in some way or another x

Gettingbysomehow · 14/02/2025 20:28

Nope never did. It's another Clinton cards day and meaningless. In fact I detest it its so fake even when I was married.

Allthesnowallthetime · 14/02/2025 20:29

We give a gift and a card and have a nice dinner (at home). Not a big deal but pleasant.

FortWalton · 14/02/2025 20:30

Cards, the cynical the better. 20 years in.
