Would you date a bisexual man?

BeJustScroller · 31/07/2024 00:28

Because as a man I think im bisexual (although never done anything with a guy before) but I can only see myself dating and marrying a woman, I have sexual attraction to both but romantically only into women. Would this turn women off?

It’s entirely plausible for a bi person to have been in a monogamous marriage for twenty-something years, having only realised they were bi early on in the relationship. And to then be entirely monogamous until that marriage fails, at which point they can explore the possibility.

@CallItLoneliness I would find it very unusual for someone of my age group to never have had sex, straight or otherwise.

Unusual, but not unknown. I don't know your age group, but there have certainly been MN threads from people in their 20s & 30s who are virgins. I suspect those who are older have either made peace with it or learned not to talk about it.

Babbahabba · 01/08/2024 15:25

Not now. I had flings with a few in my younger days but I wouldn't want it now in my 40s.

Babbahabba · 01/08/2024 15:26

I also had a few dalliances with girls in my younger years but consider myself straight.

Still doesn't really make sense what you said.
I knew that I liked boys and only boys from a young age. That never changed in adulthood when I've only ever been sexually attracted to men. I don't need to experiment with women to know that I'm straight.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/08/2024 15:53

@EBearhug sure, I fully respect anyone who chooses not to have sex, or just hadn't for whatever reason. It's just unusual. Not wrong.

Well she commented so I asked her explain? If she wasn’t prepared to be asked further questions then she shouldn’t have posted.

The reasoning behind why she wouldn’t date a bisexual could be biphobic. If it’s ’because I find the idea of homosexual sex ‘ew disgusting no no no’…’ then that is biphobic. It may not be a biphobic reasoning.

Recognising this isn’t making anyone have sex with anyone that they don’t want to, unlike previous posters have suggested. As per there’s always a GC Mumsnetter who wants to shoehorn that POV in where it’s irrelevant.

You've misunderstood my post. My point is that there is a school of thought amongst some people, particularly US self-proclaimed "progressives", that claims that dating preferences are somehow discriminatory, even a form of violence, and therefore wrong. Riley J. Dennis is the most memorable example of this, but there are others. Invariably, it's women who are most pressured to #bekind and date that disabled/Black/trans/old/whatever (usually male) person, regardless of what their gut feeling is telling them. This eroding of women's boundaries puts women and girls at risk of harm.

Whenever I see this crap, or anything that looks like it, I challenge it. The Equality Act does not apply to individuals' personal lives. People can refuse a date or sex with anyone, for any reason or none.

Well, he can have it both ways, just not with you.

"Having boundaries" and "bisexual erasure" are not synonyms.

What? Of course people can.
Orgies are a thing.
You can have multiple people at the same time.

You can believe what you like.
But you said he can't have it both.
But he can. You were wrong.

A man who has sex with another man is gay.

No. A man who has sex with men and women is bisexual.

I've had sex with men and women and would do so again. That doesn't make me lesbian.
