To shave or not to shave?

I've NC for this. I have met a new man it's early days and we are getting to know each other all is going well so far. sounds silly but I'm quite anxious about when it comes to the point of taking things further. Will he expect me to be fully shaven down below or is it still acceptable to have a "landing strip" which I prefer I really dont like to be fully shaven or the faff of doing it. I've not been intimate with a man for a long time. Do most women fully remove pubic hair now and do men expect to see women fully shaved?

Keep it how you want it. What if the relationship ends up long term and you’re stuck having to fully shave forever?

Faz469 · 12/06/2023 23:51

It's not about what he prefers its about what you are comfortable with. It's your body.... you do what you want

Hawkins0001 · 12/06/2023 23:52

@scottypippen it's your body of, do what you prefer, the only view that matters is your own.

Cincinnatus · 12/06/2023 23:53

You said you prefer a landing strip so please do that. You need to do what you like. I’m sure he won’t be arsed!

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/06/2023 23:54

Do what makes you comfortable.

Happily married for over 3 decades, never shaved, never had any complaints.

Whenwillitallmakesense · 12/06/2023 23:54

Its not about what he prefers, its about what you prefer and are uncomfortable with. Do you think he's sitting wondering whether to invest in a back, crack and sack?

The world‑class expert advice from a professor at Cambridge was that waxing and shaving didn’t help our fight against saddle issues,” says Burt.

Pubic hair helps with the transport and evaporation of sweat away from the skin. It also provides some friction protection. Hair removal methods such as shaving, depilatory creams or epilation create damage to the outer layer of the skin known as the epidermis and increase the risk of ingrowing hairs and hair follicle infections.

The women were strongly advised to stop shaving, waxing and depilating

How scientific rigour helped Team GB’s saddle-sore cyclists on their medal trail

After backroom staff found that pain in the nether regions was a serious issue, a ban on bikini waxing and adjustments to saddle angles made a big difference

I go for the full bush. Men don't care. I used to shave but now I let it grow. I prefer it, no itching or ingrown hairs.

I agree he's highly unlikely to be thinking about a back, sack&crack himself! I've always been very self conscious even now well into my 40s I feel like a nervous teenager especially as its been a long while since I've been with a man. I have quite a few friends that all say they fully shave and speak about having pubic hair as though it's disgusting. I hate this, but it just seems more the "norm" to be hairless these days.

I don’t remove any, and am in my forties. I did a few times in twenties but really didn’t like how I felt a little demeaned by it, and didn’t like stubble there. I’ve slowly learnt how to love myself and wouldn’t do it again. I have a very fulfilling intimate relationship with DP.

trustfallbabyyy · 13/06/2023 16:55

If you want to shave it, do it for you not for him.

Personally I have it all off as I can't stand the feel of a big bush especially a sweaty bush in summer. But I don't do it for anybody else. DH doesn't care if it's there or not..
I just personally feel more confident and comfortable without a hairy vag!

WhineWhineWhineWINE · 13/06/2023 17:08

I suspect he'll just be happy that you're taking that next step together. Do what you're comfortable with and don't overthink it!

Parisj · 13/06/2023 17:14

Also might as well do what you want because you can't predict his thoughts or preferences.

perfectcolourfound · 13/06/2023 17:24

I agree completely that you should have it how you want it.

If he doesn't like it, enough to put him off you, then he wasn't right for you in the first place.

Don't pretend to be something you're not, for a first date or any date - you want them to like who you are, not a false version of you that you've curated for their benefit.

Especially as you can't presume to know what he likes (or if he has any preference) in any case.

Be you. In every way.

Bananalanacake · 13/06/2023 18:54

No, never shave yourself to please a man, if they don't like it they can sodding well find some other vagina to stick their cock into. Maybe they should make it clear on their dating profiles,,,, ' only interested in women with fully shaved off pubic hair,'.

YRGAM · 13/06/2023 19:48

Men generally don't care either way, their squeamishness/disgust reflex/sensitivity to their partner's bodies (I can't think of a better way to describe this!) is generally much lower than women's. (For example, maybe 1 in 20 men would care if a woman hasn't showered that day before sex). In conclusion - do what you want, he'll be happy either way!

itsmylife7 · 13/06/2023 19:52

If nature intended women not to have body hair... we'd have none.

I wouldn't be shaving to look like a child for no man...in actual fact I'd be seriously concerned if any man wanted that.

SpringIntoChaos · 13/06/2023 19:57

Blimey OP...it wouldn't occur to me to be at all bothered what he preferred 🤷‍♀️ I generally just keep a trimmed 'undercarriage' but the rest is a pretty fulsome bush 🥰 I've had nothing but gratitude 🤣

Tannedandfake · 13/06/2023 19:58

Very strange how many posts there have been about this topic recently…

Artemi · 13/06/2023 20:42
  1. Your body, your choice

  2. I hear on the grapevine that the fashion for fully shaved is starting to wane anyway

TattoedLady · 13/06/2023 21:14

OP do whatever feels comfortable for you. Some men love a full bush, some love it neat and trimmed, some love it all off.

But none of that matters, it's your body and one thing's for certain - if you do something to your body that you're not comfortable with, you'll feel far more anxious if/when it comes to taking things further. That'll ruin the intimacy and your enjoyment quicker than any stray pube ever will!

ByeByeMr · 13/06/2023 21:28

Any man who 'expects' anything can fuck off in my opinion. You do you. I like my hair thank you very much.

ByeByeMr · 13/06/2023 21:31

Also I'd like to add I have sensitive skin and whenever I've shaved or waxed in the past it has caused things like bruising, itchiness, soreness etc. Why would I put myself through that again?

Shhhquirrel · 13/06/2023 21:32

Faz469 · 12/06/2023 23:51

This

You have bodily autonomy, it’s not up to anyone else’s preference. Have a huge bush if you want to 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheLurpackYears · 13/06/2023 21:33

Leave it how you like it, it'll be a good test as to how porn addled his brain is. One squeak of complaint from him and you can wave him bye bye.
