Men not being attracted to obese women

itchyhands3 · 20/04/2023 12:50

I've just watched a video by an' expert' emphatically saying that men do not as a rule find obese women attractive unless they have a specific fetish for obese women.

I don't know what to think for I would be considered obese on scales but certainly don't feel I look obese and consider myself relatively attractive and some men have expressed attraction towards me
.
I'm 5'7' and over thirteen and a half stone . Size 14-16 .I am 49.
This has really unsettled me for some reason. How insulting . But is it true ?

Not sure why your tone is so hostile, I'm just chatting about the common theory, i'm not defending it as accurate, I'm just pointing out for the sake of argument, that back in the day literally thousands of years ago, they reckon this happened.

You actually can geneologically track this theory, I think it's something to do with Viking settlements and the disproportionate amount of fair hairdness that follows them?

But again I (obviously) haven't done these studies, it doesn't mean no one has and again again, it doesn't mean it's gospel either.

No one, as in no proper research scientists, thinks this. No one who is taken seriously 'reckons this happened'.

The idea that blonde hair is the most attractive was invented in the mid-20th century. At about the same time as peroxide.

Your personal theory about capitalism and hair dye is far, far more accurate and much closer to the reality than some bollocks about what happened "thousands of years ago".

I dno if people are getting tired and grumpy but this thread has gone SUPER weird 😅

It was pretty off right from the start tbh.

Came here to reply to the OP, but see it's gone in a really bizarre direction. Not a waste of time because "fanny gallops" is a new one on me, so educational vocabulary wise. Grin

Surely this was meant for Nimbostratus100 the geneticist (Phill Collins?)

No, it's for you. You said that the evolutionary theory for the sexual selection of lighter skin was bullshit. You seem to think that organisms 'respond' to their environment in order to effect evolutionary change. They don't. No more than your body can respond by growing a dick on your head when your acting like a dick. Everything is sexual selection. Everything.

100%. I bleached my hair platinum blonde for ages but ever since I read that Marilyn Monroe's studio likely bleached her hair platinum blonde to make her "unequivocally white" it genuinely put me off the whole pursuit and the stupid lie I'd been sold that it was somehow more feminine and pretty to lighten one's hair.

What are you smoking? Rat poison? 😐

Same stuff as usual. She never shares!

TellMeTheMewth · 20/04/2023 22:48

@rumbusiness true, and the OP has seemed to do a bit of a "wind it up and let it go" thing. Although maybe she didn't anticipate so many responses!

Who’s going to be first to use Fanny Gallops as a new user name?

Caramc20 · 20/04/2023 22:50

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most heterosexual men are happy to see any naked woman regardless of size / shape.

HyacinthBookay · 20/04/2023 22:51

“If anything, people who like blond hair equate it to youth.”

Hitler youth.

Caramc20 · 20/04/2023 22:54

Im fed up with the blonde abuse. It’s hard for naturally blonde women with all these stupid stereotypes floating around. Yes contrary to what some people think you can have naturally blonde hair past the age of 16.

Beautiful3 · 20/04/2023 22:54

It's true. Just like most women are not attracted to obese men. Same thing. I used to.be slim and attract attention from men. Now.ive gained 3 stone, I'm invisible.

Interesting. Yes, I think Marilyn was a key figure and also Jayne Mansfield, and some earlier film stars too.

The images of beauty in European Renaissance paintings tended to be redheads or brunettes.

Obviously India, Japan, Persia, Nigeria etc all have their own, very distinct images of 'female beauty' (and these change over time too).

I think there are loads of cultural signifiers associated with blondeness in usa/british culture (femininity, fun, youth etc.) but they were all invented in the past century.

Nothing to do with Cro-Magnons going "ug. She yellow hair have strong bone. Me want"

Bet your hair's in better condition now 😄

Interestingly enough this article doesn’t mention anything about sexual selection. You just proved what a numpty you are, again.

No one has abused blonde people.

We have been taking the piss out of a very, very silly person and their very, very silly theories.

As mentioned above, 2 percent of the world's population have naturally blonde hair. I'm sorry it's so hard for you to be one of them.

@rumbusiness the gentlemen prefer it blonde origin story actually even more grim. In Ancient Rome captured European sex slaves often had blonde hair, whereas the free Roman women had darker hair. So men started associating blonde hair with sex.

This is utter bollocks though
On so many levels.

You might find this whole article interesting.

This is the bit about the invention of blondeness, but it goes way back into the history of hair dyes (all different colours, especially black and red - henna)

Ever wonder where the term platinum blonde comes from? You can thank Howard Hughes (and Jean Harlow) for that. In 1931, in what might just be the most successful public relations strategy ever, Hughes released a film called Platinum Blonde, titled to promote and capitalize on the hair color of the young star, Jean Harlow. Many fans quickly followed suit, dyeing their hair to match Harlow’s. Hughes’s team even organized a chain of Platinum Blonde clubs across the country, with a $10,000 prize that would go to any hairdresser who could copy Harlow’s shade.

@rumbusiness I used to proofread my university boyfriends Ancient history papers. This came up during a module on sex and sexuality. He never failed an essay, so I'm assuming he was correct.

Hubblebubble · 20/04/2023 23:08

@rumbusiness for SPAG as he was dyslexic and this was in the time before grammarly.
