Agreed, there are too many cats

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 11/03/2022 11:46

Having been in a relationship with a cat-hater for many years (though he has four golden retrievers!) this would be one of the first things I would want to know. So anyone on a date with me for the first time would have cats mentioned!!!

Never trust anyone who doesn’t like cats
I was given that advice when I was a child by my favourite great aunt and it’s never been proved wrong yet. I’m nearly 50**

^Cool story bro Hmm

SparklingStars10 · 11/03/2022 11:51

A man that didn’t like cats, or animals would be a deal-breaker.

MoonOnASpoon · 11/03/2022 11:58

I don't think I could really go for a man who hated cats, or wasn't nice to animals generally. But I also would understand him not being into me.

I have a cat who hates men, so it would be hypocritical to object.

2 cats max for me. I'm worried that 3 is like a gateway to a slippery slope and then you couldn't stop.

LimeSegment · 11/03/2022 12:04

I love pets but personally I think 1-3 is about the right number for most homes. I'd be a bit put off by someone who had 4-5+. I suppose I'd worry the number would grow over time.

bozzabollix · 11/03/2022 12:08

If someone didn’t accept your cats then you’re incompatible, simple as that.

I doubt I’d have married my husband had he been an animal hater. In fact I know I wouldn’t, life is too short to give up a joy like pets for a bloke.

ClariceQuiff · 11/03/2022 12:11

I love cats. I have two. I think I might personally struggle to meet the needs of more than, say, 3 cats.

My main issue with meeting a fellow cat owner would be the potential difficulty of integrating our cats. In my experience cats don't welcome new cats in their territory, and introductions can be slow and painstaking.

HeatherShiver · 11/03/2022 12:13

@Bringsexyback He sounds nice......
Bullet dodged!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/03/2022 12:15

It's easy. If you both have the same views about pets then it's no problem. If you have really wildly different views about pets then that would for me be a deal breaker. (4 cats here)

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/03/2022 14:03

There a too many people. There will never be too many cats
balalake · 11/03/2022 16:26

Never too many cats, though you could have too many for the space you have, or it not be kind to have a cat if you are away a lot.

I agree with others that finding out whether someone loves cats (or dogs) is important to do so early on. I could not live in a house with a dog, for example.

TacoCats · 11/03/2022 16:27

If they don't have any cats then that'd be weird. I'm good with cats, have as many as you like long as you look after them!

Ftl6 · 11/03/2022 16:35

The way my husband bonded with my cats was one of my favourite things about him. We still have one of my cats around (who is very much his as well now) as well as a couple of rescue cats we adopted together. If anyone is put off by your pet family, they aren’t for you.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 11/03/2022 19:22

@Suprima

Men who vocally hate cats should be avoided They can’t deal with things that don’t need their approval and validation constantly
Agree.

My chap has LOTS of cats 😂

VeryQuaintIrene · 11/03/2022 20:39

I once had 8 for one summer and that was too many. 6 for me is the limit (I currently have 5, so there is a vacancy...)

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 11/03/2022 21:25

We have three which is probably edging towards our limit. If we didn't have the dog, we'd have more though.

DH originally didn't want any Grin

Are you my ex?

HowlongWillThisTakeNow · 11/03/2022 21:56

@ImJustMadAboutSaffron
Maybe?
My ex got a cat, the cat decided I was it’s owner, I had to groom it, take it to the vets etc, just ignored my ex, I was the only that had to take it to be euthanised,

FurPunt · 11/03/2022 22:08

Did someone say cats? 🐱
Miaow

Arucanafeather · 11/03/2022 22:10

Ha ha! My DH said when I met him that he’d never own a cat… over the last few years our numbers have varied but always more than 4 but less than 10 Grin. He’s also a little nervous of large birds but has got to grips with helping me with our flock of chickens and ducks!

FurPunt · 11/03/2022 22:20

“So, Karen, why you so much in my house lately?”
