What do women actually find attractive about men?

Inspired by a a reverso thread, I want to know... what is it you like so much about the Hairy Ones?

When I was 9 years old, my teacher made me sit next to a boy called Jamie who was kind of naughty. He used to swap words in our hymns for other words that rhymed or otherwise fit. Sometimes it would make the song rude. Sometimes it would just mean he was singing his heart out to his dog instead of god.
It would make me giggle and I would think about him, even when I wasn't at school.

The day that I first heard Jamie belt out "to my dirty pants" instead of "to the elephants" in morning assembly, is the day I realised that I love the mischievous ones.

And yes, I married one. 🙊

Some interesting observations, but I particularly relate to @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal with I love a nice strong forearm in a rolled up sleeve too.

VioletWillow · 16/02/2022 14:46

Hmmm. Smart, mischievous and whimsical is essential. Ideally bearded and a good reader. Being a geek and into music is definitely a big bonus!

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 16/02/2022 14:48

Physically not too fussed, like dirty blonde hair but also dark hair (bonus if it's sort of long, Adam Driveresque but well looked after) Nice teeth/smile, good hygiene etc. Personality would be kind, patient, easy going, bit of a laugh, DP basically- and maybe Jim from the Office.

I do have a soft spot for the bad boy trope though, only really in media, not in real life. I fancy characters who are morally grey except for absolute love and affection for their partner, even though I know possessiveness is abusive IRL.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 16/02/2022 14:50

@Easterbunnyiswindowshopping

When I met my now dh we kissed within less than an hour. He had lovely breathe!! He still does even pre teeth brush in the morning! And he has perfect eyebrows. And never needs to pluck them. Very odd they aren't chin length!
So does mine! Literally like the stencils you see for microblading, and every hair is always in its place!
ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 16/02/2022 14:50

@Easterbunnyiswindowshopping sorry, re Eyebrows.

TheLoupGarou · 16/02/2022 14:53

Competence (more and more as I get older) someone who is very good at what they do and doesn't need to be micromanaged. A true partner.
Supportive
Funny
Kind
Respects others
Broad shoulders & well muscled arms
Cheeky grin

WineThenMisletoe · 16/02/2022 14:53

Kindness of course but I like a man who looks rough. Larger than average nose and a face that says keep away. Married decades ago and my DH looks like he has gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson. He is tall, lean and muscular with a hell of a chest. Never been one for pretty boys.

Naimee87 · 16/02/2022 14:56

Apparently for me its a decent builders-bum, bum-bag and a HGV license...

Filthyslattern · 16/02/2022 14:57

The hairiness. I don't get the modern fashion for men removing body hair. A hairy forearm in a rolled up shirt with a chunky watch.....gorgeous.

Height- got to be 6ft +

pawpaws2022 · 16/02/2022 14:58

I like a bit of chunk. Someone who looks like they lift stuff or work with their hands
Dark hair, kind eyes, nice teeth
Tattoos and bald is a bonus Grin

CovidCurious · 16/02/2022 15:03

In terms of pure sexual attraction I like them tall, dark-haired, good teeth, no facial hair, no tattoos or piercings, strong but slim-hipped and with an air of being slightly disreputable.

emsmar · 16/02/2022 15:09

Brown hair, funny, mischievous, confident and kind.

I don't find conventionally attractive men attractive. Give me a bashed up hefty rugby front row over any of your Jude Law/Daniel Craig types any day.

My DH is built like a tank, shaved head, kind of Phil Mitchell looks, but he has twinkling blue eyes, and a smile that melts everyone who meets him.

Milomonster · 16/02/2022 15:15

Emotionally intelligent and giving, funny, highly intelligent, well-read, well-travelled, neither aloof nor needy, someone who can make decisions and plan, kind face, sure of himself.
I’m not too prescriptive about looks (although I like good looking and elegant men) as I think the above qualities can make up for a lack of looks AS LONG AS there is chemistry.

romany4 · 16/02/2022 15:15

Hairy chests with a shirt slightly unbuttoned so you only get a peek ...
Rolled up shirt sleeves. I have a thing about forearms.
Beards that snuggle your neck...
Blue eyes

Staffy1 · 16/02/2022 15:20

Men who have a bit of drive, that do useful things without having to be asked all the time. Physically, tall, broad shouldered, a bit of muscle.

Milomonster · 16/02/2022 15:24

@Filthyslattern yes to a bit of body hair. I don’t want a carpet though.

A580Hojas · 16/02/2022 17:18

I will admit (with some discomfort) to finding fat a massive turn off.

I like men who are sociable, can talk easily to anyone, who have an optimistic outlook, a can-do attitude and plenty of energy.

I also like good teeth and can't stand men who get drunk. Ever.

ScabbyHorse · 16/02/2022 17:40

Decisive, can admit he's wrong, looks good in a jumper.

PeeAche · 16/02/2022 17:59

Good god. Update: I just looked Jamie up on Facebook and he's dead.

RIP, Jamie. I hope they sang The Lord of the Pants at your funeral 😢 ✌️

Dh - Funny, attractive, quiet but sociable but speaks up when it matters. He's so protective without being clingy or jealous. A bit rough and tough yet into loads of interesting stuff. He never flirts. He makes me feel like royalty.

70kid · 16/02/2022 18:39

I love it when my DH drives and puts his arm around the passenger seat to reverse the car
I’ don’t know if that’s making sense 😂 but it’s guaranteed a good time in bed when I see him s do that 😂
Besides that I love his height 6ft 3 and his back it’s perfect with no blemish’s on it
He was also fantastically kind with my mad late parents
He has never ending patience with our very vicious and nasty dog
He is also good at DIY

He makes me laugh every day

Cheekypeach · 16/02/2022 18:44

Oooh didn’t realise we were talking about our own DHs! Mine:
Thick black hair, no Steve McDonald hairline lol
Straight strong nose, can’t stand piddly little noses on men
He has a high responsibility, traditional ‘profession’ and I love hearing him being assertive and intelligent on work calls
He also has a black fleece that he wears on frosty mornings which is weirdly sexy

Summerhillsquare · 16/02/2022 18:44

Being funny. And being assertive. Cannot bear shilly-shallying, passive agression, avoidance.

And a nice neck.
