What do men actually find attractive about women?

847 replies

kellyspark · 13/02/2022 18:10

After being divorced after a long marriage (adultery, his) I have started to cotton onto the fact that a lot of men like certain attributes about women that are quite surprising to me.
In a sporting hobby, some men have shown interest in me - flirting - but I wasn't ready for dating, so have treated them more like mates. This seems to have increased their attention, so I infer that they either like the chase, or they cannot figure out why I'm not flirting back and want to find out why I'm not.
Another thing seems to be that men don't automatically go for the most glamourous looking woman in a group. I'm still trying to figure that one out, but wondering if men worry about women being 'high maintenance' or maybe they think glam women are out of their league?

I think OLD is online dating?

ravenmum · 17/02/2022 14:15

A feminist filter is using terms like patriarchy, socialization, equality, conditioning, to explain the world, on and on there's no evidence for any of this
Do you offer trolling lessons? If not, you really should Grin

I don't think you're going to turn him, Anothergreatday.

I didn’t get the impression she was wanting others to describe their breasts. I got the impression that she has insecurities about her breast size. I think it’s better to make people feel better about themselves by supporting them and allowing them to express their feelings, sometimes just empathising and sharing your own experiences really helps others.
ravenmum · 17/02/2022 14:38

I don't get the impression he has breasts. He does not know how bra sizes work.

Jasmine5552 · 17/02/2022 14:50

I like men who can look beyond how someone looks when looking for a relationship.

Models have a particular look for a reason, they are the epitome of beauty. If you show 10 men a picture of a beautiful model the answers will be basically unanimous

No, they are generally a woman or gay man’s epitome of beauty. Unfortunately.
@5128gap. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm definitely unexceptional in that case Grin. Decidedly mediocre in fact but I'm happy with my lot and happy I still make my wife happy.

I agree though and generally noone gets better with age physically. It just boils down to how well we're aging and I've no doubt that I probably look ok 'for my age' Grin. The exception is possibly gaining more experience. It can go both ways but some try to become better people as their worldly experience grows and the world changes.
Me too. I am definitely average looking but I was lucky to find a partner who I have been with for over 12 years now.

@BottleOfSun

When I was in my early 20s I was considered attractive but never ever got chatted up mainly because I came across as “intimidating” I’ve been told lol! I was quite insecure within myself and always wanted to present the best of myself, perfect makeup, hair in the gym 5+ days a week ect. I was so worried what people thought of me everyone gave me a wide birth. Now I’m in my 30s, married and don’t care so much what I look like I’m always getting chatted up and I don’t think I’ve got any better looking with age lol! Maybe they see the ring and think of the challenge who knows Grin
I don't think I am intimidating as people do approach me but only to ask for directions.😀

This thread is mad.

I knew large chested women were smug and conceited, but I didn't realise just how much

I have large breasts. I hate them, would have a reduction in a heartbeat if I could afford it. I can’t wear all the lovely clothes my smaller breasted friends wear as I have to strap my boulders in. I never wear anything v necked, I tend to wear hoodies to hide them. I didn’t realise I was smug and conceited due to having these large breasts that I despise Confused.

Beyond being tall and slim models do not have a particular look. Surely Hr, you can see beyond two bodily characteristic to notice that Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Elle Macphearson, for example, have entirely different facial features? Or is it only their bodies you are looking at? Their shape and height is chosen to display the clothes to their advantage in the opinion of the designers, and sometimes because they have a look a brand wishes to associate with, a quirk or edge. However this is changing with more diversity in models. Surely they can't all be the epitome of beauty in your eyes?

Young, slim.
Which is what this thread is all about.
I'm not convinced my choices have anything to do with patriarchal brainwashing or mail order. Wink

I wonder if Helen of Troy was a patriarchal invention.

This thread is pointless now. Everyone will be ugly in the end as we all age. There's someone out there for everyone, some just have more choice.
Titsywoo · 17/02/2022 16:57

@hotpinkkettle

They like a hot body, and the chase

Hot body but can’t be arsed with a chase.

Curly hair is a bonus, and no need for makeup.

Obviously, I can’t speak for all men.

What is it with the curly hair? I have naturally curly hair and found a lot of men were attracted to me just for that when I was younger.

There's certainly been a number of posts about breasts... I don't know who's behind them, I've been skipping past a few of the odder posts.

As a former successful catwalk model, I have to say that we all had similar 'auras' even though we were hardly cardboard cutouts of one another upon closer inspection. There have always been a lot of gay men in the fashion industry but I did not get the impression that they found the models beautiful. Infact, some were rather admiring of the boyfriends of the models!

My post absolutely rebuffs what you said. Show a photo of a woman that you, or in this case probably a woman or a gay man in the fashion industry, find beautiful, you won’t get 10 men agreeing. This is even less likely if they’re an actual fashion model as they are famously underweight and a bit sexless.
To hold fashion models up as a paradigm of beauty seems almost as if you need an official validation as to who you find attractive? If you said film actresses I think you’d have a better point, but they are more diverse in “look” than models.

And, btw, the Trojan War is the most comically patriarchal thing to have ever happened. Massive cock fight over the ownership of a woman.

I apologise if that’s how I came across, it’s certainly not my intention to shame anyone for how their body is, sexless was the wrong term, but at the same time was there not a scandal/expose about size zero models some years ago? It’s not something that should be held up as paradigmatic of female beauty, IMO, and I’ve watched a few documentaries on the exploitative nature of some sectors of that industry re models.
