Can anyone link me or explain this conspiracy theory (I'm not a conspiracy theorist) posted before about now exDP getting worse and worse

Hey guys me again

Im wondering if any of you can explain the AI sentinent/plant/humans being turned in AI conspiracy theory

My now EXDP believes this wholeheartedly and I want to know what I'm up against in terms of whether my concern and worry is over the top or I'm right to be worried. I cannot find ANYTHING on Google about this particular theory.

We broke up yesterday, he's now trying to upset and hurt me verbally with the name calling/derogatory comments and stuff he posts on social media.

I feel I need to know what I'm up against before anymore decisions can be made. I've applied for talking therapy for myself to break the bonds and have a professional to offload my worries and concerns about this too. I'm now back waking up with anxiety and feeling out of sorts because of the verbal abuse which will undoubtedly continue for the next few days.

I'm done trying to help but I feel I need to join a support forum for those of us who have lost our partners to conspiracy theories and speak to people who truly understand the gravity of this loss/situation and what comes next etc if that makes sense. I feel alone in this because most people I know have never (thankfully) been in this situation.

@Gingernaut

What you're describing is Capgras' Delusion or Syndrome and it's bloody dangerous.

Believing that people have been replaced with imposters, aliens or robots could be a result of paranoid schizophrenia, a paranoid personality disorder or a head injury.

Either way, he might attack those he believes are imposters, not realising they are his real relatives.

He has become completely detached from reality.

If his parents aren't attempting to get him medical help, you need to lock down, change the locks, don't let your children near him or his enabling parents and report your concerns to the police.

Listen to this. It is also, I suspect, one of the reasons why some parents thought their children were replaced with fairy changelings back when that was a more commonly held belief. Now it's being replaced by aliens or A.I .
Doggosaurus · 31/12/2021 14:57

he believes his parents have become AI and he hasn't quite decided whether I'm one or not yet.

What does his parents think op? How much are they aware?

Crucible · 31/12/2021 15:02

Capgras syndrome springs to mind.

EarthSight · 31/12/2021 15:03

What NailSaloon is referring to is transhumanism, Elon Musk and discussions he's had with interviewers regarding this matter, which are publicly available on Youtube are not a conspiracy theory.

It is not a pleasant subject for a lot of people. Please do not mention this to your husband as he sounds extremely paranoid and vulnerable right now. The only reason why I'm mentioning it first is in case he gets you to look at certain things online and you are somehow pulled into his way of thinking.

irene9 · 31/12/2021 15:03

Your partner needs to be assessed by a psychiatrist as soon as possible. You engaging with the content is serving to normalise these distorted beliefs.

Crucible · 31/12/2021 15:03

Looks like others have already said this. Best wishes OP

EarthSight · 31/12/2021 15:07

Also, OP, this shouldn't even be a thread tbh. There should be no question about this at all, no hand-wringing. He's unwell, and you need to act. If you don't listen to the posters on here, I'm actually concerned for your children and I think someone from Mumsnet staff should be reaching out to you.

Whyyyyyyyohhhhhwhyyyyyy · 31/12/2021 15:11

@EarthSight my children are safe, they aren't with him.

I agree with you all, unfortunately I can't do anything until after New year and everywhere opens as normal.

Think you can dial 111 any time. You don't need to wait.

DaisyNGO · 31/12/2021 15:27

OP I realise you've got a lot to process
So just asking again what his parents think - they might be able to help?

And is there any chance he doesn't believe it but is posturing? I think CTs have become a coping mechanism for some people.

Whyyyyyyyohhhhhwhyyyyyy · 31/12/2021 15:36

@DaisyNGO they don't give a rats ass, they claim to be worried but do nothing to help him and he lives with them. Can't talk to them either as they don't actually care.

He knows that people think he's nuts when he starts on about his beliefs so he doesn't actually say them to people he's just met/friends who would laugh in his face etc and I know for a fact he would deny all of this to a mental health professional.

I believe he believes it all 100% but I believe he also knows if he was to tell the wrong person they'd have him thrown in the asylum quicker than he could say 'I'm joking'

He made a page for 'like minded people' on social media and having a quick flick through, he is beyond Happy that some Aussies have set fire to a government or a medical facility and says they are amazing for taking back control and wants the UK to do the same. Then there's more about 5G towers being torched/toppled and other bits his equally delusional followers are posting about damaging the QR codes in venues with black ink so it 'crashes the system' for track and trace etc and how eventually these QR codes will be tattooed on our skin or chipped into us. Then there's the posts with photos they've all taken that 'show' an alien craft 'hiding in plain sight' and the planets etc. Its essentially a page for conspiracy nutjobs to validate each other and enable one another.. crazy stuff.

Minimise the abuse by hiding any posts from him on all SM and blocking him from your phone for a while.

OP
I don't claim to be an expert but some of that is less alarming than I thought.

It sounds like he wants the attention on social media for a start. I ended up reading some weird stuff when trying to decide what to do about my friend and I think some of these people don't believe what they are saying at all.

I would still want them away from my kids but if he will deny it to a MH person I am not sure where that goes.

He can't actually believe that his parents are dangerous if he lives with them.

I agree with pp that it's not worth looking into his beliefs. But does he have the children alone?

Your DC aren’t safe and you shouldn’t allow unsupervised contact until he’s been assessed. You have valid concerns. Stop all contact and see a solicitor ASAP. File a prohibited steps order and an injunction until your case can be seen by a judge. You state that you have valid mental health concerns due to obsessive and dangerous conspiracy theories leading to anger and uncontrollable outbursts. The court will get him assessed. You must go through proper channels here. Get social services involved. Dig in your heels and forget about being seen to do the right thing. You aren’t dealing with a normal person so all normal routes are now null and void. Seek immediate legal help. Your dc mustn’t be alone with him in case he has a mental episode and sees them as a robot who needs to be stopped. Common sense must now be applied

moremoony · 31/12/2021 15:55

The fact he’s made a group on social media goes in your favour. Take screen copies. Build up a file of all his rantings. You need evidence.

Agree.

@bearandowl not helpful and in no way pertinent to someone who believes that their parents have been turned into AI.

Oh just go away, you utter sad case.

AlternativePerspective · 31/12/2021 16:14

God these threads bring out all sorts don’t they?

ShinyHappyPoster · 31/12/2021 16:14

You can be a conspiracy theorist and suffering from delusions. They aren't mutually exclusive. You don't need to wait to do something. You can contact his GP and raise your concerns; you can contact the police. If he has said stuff that causes you alarm and raises fears for you and your DCs' safety, then the police can arrange for him to be assessed by a psychiatrist.
You could try to record him when he next tells you about this. Start to collate a pile of evidence.
Delusions are dangerous. You do need to take steps to make sure you and your DCs are safe.
