Leaving note

In a few weeks I will be gone with the children, he doesn’t know and neither do they yet.
My plan is to collect them from school and take them to new house. I can’t sit down and talk with him so he will return to an empty house. What do I write in the note to say we have gone? He’s been abusive and controlling for years and I fully expect a backlash.

Good luck you can also get help/advice from womens aid or citizens advice if needed. Plus childrens centres or early help.

Luckypoppy · 21/01/2022 07:15

Good luck. We are all with you in spirit x

GalacticGoddess · 21/01/2022 07:19

Good luck OP.
Stay strong and stay safe.

Re the letter, definitely put the reason for leaving in it, that way if he tries to use it against you saying you just want to stop his seeing the kids there is the reason clearly.

I would advise as other PPs have said, letting the Police know, talking to Womens Aid and a solicitor, let school know as the children may mention it (also let them know re concerns in case he tried to pick up from school, that way they should ring CS/Police for advice and see your logs) and also consider asking Childrens Services for advice and laying out the concerns and the clear safety steps you have taken - be clear with them all that any addresses etc need to be noted as confidential as he is abusive.

If anything happens in the future re family court you have these logs to show your side of things and how proactive you've been.

Keep logs from now on of all contact from him.

I really hope today goes well and you and the kids are settled up safe and cosy tonight. Treat yourselves to a tasty dinner that requires minimal effort from you as you may not feel up to it.

Good luck OP! Don't waste a second feeling sorry for him, he certainly wouldn't do the same for you. Once things are a bit more settled you'll soon feel more like yourself again and you'll know you've absolutely done the right thing.
