Thread 219: Dating in a winter wonderland

The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. Know your worth.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

I got someone on Bumble politely saying something like "how was your Sunday? This morning I've played tennis" follow up with "do you want to see my penis?".

Hmm

Game of tennis and sending dick pics to strangers, a relaxing Sunday plan![/quote]
🤣🤣🤮

VanGoghsDog · 29/11/2021 21:26

I also have a real soft spot for terms of endearment/made-up nicknames when dating

Yeah, I love it when actually dating.

I've no idea if there are other "options", I've turned it off due to my three week exile! Back at the end of this week but I have nearly no free evenings left this year.

FabulousMrFifty · 29/11/2021 21:27

@VanGoghsDog
Is MCarperFactory from Axminster ?

"love your tits, would you like to see my penis" , mental note to self, don’t use this line again.

@WeWantTheFinestWines apologies in advance for my poor grammar and awful speeling

He is from Axminster. Near where I have been exiled!!

Onesmallstep67 · 29/11/2021 21:51

@Isitreallyme177, he’s gorgeous. I’m definitely well on my way to being the mad, cat woman. We have 3 here.
@FabulousMrFifty, you do make me laugh 😂
I think Spring is right. Not everyone is hugely witty or engaging in written communication and even if they are it’s not always a very accurate reflection of who they are. I guess with dating sites you are trying to connect with someone and show something of yourself to add an extra dimension to the pictures on your profile. But yet again this is an example of where we are all different. I think Mr Axminster’s message was nice, a fairly pleasant compliment and responding to something he’d been asked. I’m often complimented on my eyes but when on the apps I took that to be their way of flirting or stepping beyond friendly chat because after all the premise is to find someone date.

Never understand why someone would send a “penis picture “, I’ve got one and they are not particularly photogenic

NewlySingle2021 · 29/11/2021 21:52

Thank you @PurpleStripyScarf I really appreciate your answer.

Thanks everyone, agree with a pp about no time for poor grammar etc, it's a minefield out there! I've just unmatched another guy who couldn't seem to move the convo on except talking about himself, saying vague things like 'would be good to meet' but no follow up when I respond to say yes. And unmatched another one who kept saying 'your a good looking woman'. I was itching to reply *you're before blocking but hey ho. Chef keeps 'lol' and 'U' -ing all over the place but for now I'm overlooking it. It's irritating me but some of my friends do it too so maybe I need to let things like that go I think!

You're speeling its awsome 😉

WeWantTheFinestWines · 29/11/2021 22:03

We really have to stick with 5th Feb now dear threaders, as I've just booked a meetup with old friends in London the night before. Big weekend in the Big Smoke!

SpringlikeBunk · 29/11/2021 22:19

@WeWantTheFinestWines

I'm booked (flexible in case of Covid shit) and some of us are opera-ing (PM me anyone who wants the details) will do a reminder post in a few days x

SpringlikeBunk · 29/11/2021 22:20

(we're not at the opera on the main thread meetup btw, that's just a spin-off for the Monday after)

StartingAgain6369 · 29/11/2021 22:31

@Shayelle2009
Thanks for starting up the new thread

@Isitreallyme177
I may have missed it but has your new baby got a name?

@FabulousMrFifty
I feel your pain! I had a operation on the base of my spine a few years and the pain was horrific especially when I had 6 weeks of daily dressings changed

My ex is really fffing annoying me, I phoned DD1 and she answered on speaker phone, within 30seconds I've the ex going on about financials which should be between us in front of DD1. I hung up on her then texted DD1 but why is it me feeling like poo for what happened

BelladiMamma · 29/11/2021 22:37

I've moved the dogs into their winter quarters and the little pug is making such a racket. This does not bode well for my 24 hour date tomorrow!! The pug is acting like I've personally removed all the puppies she never had and given them away. Oh my god the howling!!!!

This is crap and not on. My ex was constantly ambushing me like this. I don't know what to say other than the less contact the better.

Excellent - have people booked accommodation yet or just generally 'booked'? I may do two nights at my friend's but also quite fancy a hotel...

Do your dogs have their own personal accommodation, pool, spa ?
StartingAgain6369 · 29/11/2021 22:50

@BelladiMamma
I think I've just got to hang up, I don't communicate with her because I know how it ends up.

Going to have a think and I'll speak to the girls when I pick up from school tomorrow afternoon

SpringlikeBunk · 29/11/2021 23:04

@WeWantTheFinestWines

Not sure what anyone else is doing but I got a booking.com deal which is 100% refundable up to the last minute - seemed good value, just went for basic chain

Catcrazy83 · 29/11/2021 23:11

* It's the getting the blood from the middle finger I can't deal with. It takes me hours 🤣*

I have to save this one for the Christmas break. Have to stab several fingers so can’t type for days 😂

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 29/11/2021 23:14

Sorry, my email notifications aurnt coming though on my email account so didn't know I'd got any replies.

@FabulousMrFifty I personally find being a virgin horrible because to me it implies there's something wrong with me and that men find me so horrible that they don't want to go the 'whole way.' With me. I feel nauseous whenever I think about my sexual status and find it shameful. I'm also insecure about it because I feel that I shouldn't be a virgin at my age (late twenties)

This is partly why I like Mr. Gambit as he was really really lovely about it when I plucked up the courage to tell him.

@Heartbeats0708 Mr Gambit does this routinely I don't know why. He can be a bit sporadic with messages anyway, but I used to think it was because he needed space from me to get on with his work stuff for example, but now I just think he hates me and doesn't want to know me anymore. I don't know why as we've always had a good relationship/friendship whatever, and I've always been around for him when I can ❤️

SpringlikeBunk · 29/11/2021 23:15

@WeWantTheFinestWines

I'd make sure you get the FREE CANCELLATION bookings in case we're all staying in with Omicrom -thing - with the opera we've all got cheap seats and can get the price back as a voucher so won't be bankrupted if Chris Whitty locks us up again.

I think I may need to work in spring/summer so this might be the only holiday chance I get!

Catcrazy83 · 29/11/2021 23:16

The new man in your life looks so cute and settled @Isitreallyme177

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 29/11/2021 23:18

My mum really annoys me sometimes as well. She thinks all men like me and that's simply not true at all.

That's what mums are supposed to think, it's lovely of her, don't be annoyed.

You could have my mum who calls me ugly and fat. Now that is annoying!

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 29/11/2021 23:24

@VanGoghsDog ❤️❤️❤️

I just say 'okay then, if men like me, why can't I get one to be with me?' She doesn't know what to say then! 😘
