Dating Thread 217: Is it burning bright or fizzling out?

The Rules:

1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
2. Develop a thick skin.
3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
5. Trust your gut instinct.
6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
7. Know your worth.
8. If it's not fun, stop.
9. Loo update is mandatory.

10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

The Monty Python thing is not a ‘dig’, it’s him using it as self-depreciation, it’s what I tend to do, when I’m nervous of around someone I like ( man of my age etc, etc ),( when I were a lad etc etc , this also a Month Python reference)

Yes, we’re meeting in public for the foreseeable, he can’t come back to mine because of the kids which would weed him out naturally if he got pushy.

I’ve been super picky on OLD, spoke to a few on the phone but never progressed. He stood out for some reason and I went to meet him at short notice as he happened to be in the area and I happened to have childcare. I just need to keep reminding myself I’m in control, not from who our interactions might go etc, but in the fact I can walk away whenever I want and take things as slowly as I want (and if he’s not OK with that I’m no worse off!)

He’s been pretty busy himself, and had self proclaimed “man flu” last week (he actually sounded a bit more poorly than that!). At which point he said he could use a hug as I’m good at them, so he must have liked it too ☺️ I hope you get one from Mr Cricket soon!

I need to give my potential a name I suppose. He shall henceforth be called… Mr Unicorn

I had lots of options to choose from, and while this might seem I’m hanging too much on him I’m not. He’s a unicorn for getting me to consider getting back out there for real (and I love unicorns, they are totally real and lots out there just hiding!! 😂)

Ahaha, thank you! Yup I just need to chill and relax, and see this as what it should be - some light relief at this point.

I was told by a friend that if he asks a difficult question, I should say "I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition"....

Thank you! Fingers crossed though trying not to get too attached. We just seem to have a lot of (unusual) common interests. Let's see what Sat brings! Looking forward to taking this journey with you all!

Mr Italy #3 has said he's looking for a FWB and I've had to grudgingly say no because I know I wouldn't be able to handle it.
