The Rules:

 1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
 2. Develop a thick skin.
 3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
 4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
 5. Trust your gut instinct.
 6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
 7. Know your worth.
 8. If it's not fun, stop.
 9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item
@Naimee87 not magnet NAN of course 😂😂
Changes the meaning of a comfort shag 😁

Naimee87 · 11/11/2021 10:58

Grin magnet-nan!! Oh god!! Nooo thanks! I wonder if there are other women like me who chase after trucker-men! Maybe there's a dating app with them all on it. Rather a different dating app to the one the work-girls seem to use where the men post their salary... ugh! Sugardaddy.com anyone?...

I think with OLD it has to be done sparingly it shouldn't be all-consuming as you begin to invent connections and get yourself entangled with someone you know nothing about. Aim to meet those who you do get chatting to as quickly as you can. And a good date is really a bonus. I hate trying to maintain chats for weeks they just get so boring and i suppose not in all cases but these tend to least to the biggest dissapointment when you meet as you've built such high hopes.

If this thread has taught me anything it's to go with your gut. To not settle for anyone you think 'should' as it's better than being alone. And most importantly you have to go have those important talks and ask the questions that are on your mind, because the answers that you get are maybe not what you want to hear but they are what you need to hear.

Wish i could lie down... can't keep my eyes open at the minute trying to read emails! Lucky for me it's lunch time i'm getting GIANT starbucks!

I'm so nervous about MrWG coming, I've not spent four days with a man for about two years!!

Shayelle2009 · 11/11/2021 11:54

When’s he turning up @VanGoghsDog? Enjoy it ☺️

@Naimee87 dont drive when you feel wrecked will you 💕

Regard it as an anthropological experiment and please report back. I'm the same! Can't remember the last time I spent that long with a bloke. I had a mini break with MrBear then dumped him so that went well 🙄🤣

Also embarrassed to admit that I've only just worked out that MrWG means MrWalkingGroup 🤦🏻‍♀️
Isitreallyme177 · 11/11/2021 12:26

@BelladiMamma it took me a while too🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Dancerinthemoonlight · 11/11/2021 12:29

Unsurprisingly I haven't heard anything from the postponed dates from late weekend.

Work situation is only getting worse And my line manager has started low level bullying. Verbally so there isn't a paper trail if I were to raise it. No interviews on the cards either so I'm just trying to get through day by day at the moment

FabulousMrFifty · 11/11/2021 12:45

@VanGoghsDog.
I’m sure it will be fine

@Dancerinthemoonlight
That sounds terrible, keep you head down and keep moving forward

Nothing happening here,
Both myself & Ms W are taking STI tests as she prefers ‘with out’, not sure how I’m feeling about this, might take some along with me just in case I chicken out, it’s been years since I’ve done that..

BelladiMamma · 11/11/2021 13:03

@FabulousMrFifty let her know if you're uncomfortable with that? No harm in doing the sti tests but don't feel you have to go naked to keep someone happy

FabulousMrFifty · 11/11/2021 13:05

And just had a letter from my Dr’s to arrange my flue jab, now I’m over 50, blimey, what a strange day

Well, if only I knew!

He said he'd try and leave about eleven. But I don't know if he's leaving from home or if he went to his sister's last night. There's about a forty minute difference, plus he's not someone who is known to leave when he says - he once left his at six pm to get to me about half an hour away, and turned up at eight thirty.
This irritates me because while I'm pretty laid back generally, I get anxious if I don't know when I'm going to be eating! So he turned up at eight thirty and because I'd been expecting him at six thirty I'd not eaten. But he didn't want anything. (I still got him to cook my dinner though)

Online shop has been and I've walked the dog and sorted the chooks.

Naimee87 · 11/11/2021 13:13

@Shayelle2009 never get to drink with him unfortunately as he's always up at the crack of dawn. But the drive home yesterday was so misty was actually quite frightening plus just empty roads too. I had my music on full blast though to keep me awake and keep the eery horror film-esque thoughts at bay.

@Dancerinthemoonlight doesn't sound too great right now. Anything you can change about your situation to improve it? Any kind of sports classes you could sign up to? or friends you could get round for a drink? Work is a mess at the moment and i'm just trying to keep my head down. Travels picking up again but people are that uncertain they keep changing and cancelling and i'm losing track of what my managers are doing. You need something exciting planned that's separate to dating and to work. Like a good challenge as well so you can channel all your energy into something positive. Sorry i sound like the sad self-help section of a library don't i ...

StartingAgain6369 · 11/11/2021 13:19

@Dancerinthemoonlight
Re work, document things said time and date

@Naimee87
Are you partial to a Yorkie bar as well as a cheeky Starbucks Grin

SpringlikeBunk · 11/11/2021 13:19

@Dancerinthemoonlight

Sounds shit - I know there’s different views on how to deal with workplace bullying but my view is always to just “get out ASAP”, it doesn’t matter if you have to be frugal for a while your mental health is far more important!

I know you were working so hard to get this position but do put your well-being first.

Even if you end up working in “a job outside your industry” just to keep going (will be lots of Xmas Temp jobs coming up) a toxic workplace will never change and it’s impossible to fight back normally.

Dancerinthemoonlight · 11/11/2021 13:24

@Naimee87 there isn't any point in organising drinks with friends as they flake. I have stopped being the one to always text first or to always suggest something. I have a lot going on outside of work and dating but work just seems to be brining my mood down in general at the moment.
At least I'm off tomorrow afternoon so only have to do a few hours in the morning.

Naimee87 · 11/11/2021 13:31

@StartingAgain6369 Oh yes ANY chocolate as long as it int dark that's just vile... twirl, flake(haha), whisper, curlywurly, crunchie, galaxy, dairy milk bar, whole nut, chocolate orange. My suitcase on my trip home in feburary will be MaHUSSIV!! Will also need to find some potatoe cakes from somewhere although no one seem's to have heard of these?

StartingAgain6369 · 11/11/2021 13:48

@Naimee87 so now is probably not the time to tell you I have a close friend who works at Cadburys .........?

Naimee87 · 11/11/2021 13:57

@StartingAgain6369 Hmmm but does he drive trucks (not vans)? as you can probably tell from pretty must ALL of my posts this is a pre-requisite of mine! No idea if that is how you use that word but hopefully you get my drift.... Grin
Have you decided on your meal for your shin-dig with MsSunglasses Grin
@Dancerinthemoonlight it's good you've got stuff going on outside of work then, are you able to 'clock-off' properly? Time to get some new mates as well. What hobbies do you do? I hate that we have to be reachable at all hours these days. Even if you 'finish' the 'can you just see my last email' or 'have you got two minutes' and half an hour later they are still talking about that once column in excel and whether or not its needed. Meanwhile i've slipped of my chair and died from sheer boredeom.

Love potato cakes 😁

Not sure where you'd get them in London?

JustThisLastLittleBit · 11/11/2021 14:37

The stress of exes - I recognised that my heart was racing whenever he was near about three years before I called time on the relationship, so nearly 10 years ago now. The GP gave me beta blockers to pop when the racing started. I still have some, and I still take one whenever I know he’s coming round. They are my life belt. No one and nothing else in my life requires a beta blocker, just that idiot 😢

Dancerinthemoonlight · 11/11/2021 14:41

@naimee87 something I really need to improve is being able to switch off from work. I switch off my laptop at 5 but them I have the terrible habit of checking my work phone for email before I go to sleep. It's only the odd days I will work after 5 and then I take the time back.
I'm looking and applying for roles that interest and excite me so hopefully the right job will come along.

Isitreallyme177 · 11/11/2021 14:58

@Naimee87 I am a chocolate fiend (I like Milka chocolate the best), Mr Cricket is also a chocolate fiend (yet another thing we have in common). One of his complaints when he got covid was he lost his sense of taste so couldn't satisfy is chocolate habit.

Shayelle2009 · 11/11/2021 15:26

It’s all about HOTEL CHOCOLAT… so addicted to that shop 😍😋 their liqueurs are amazing too!

BelladiMamma · 11/11/2021 15:27

@SortingItOut @JustThisLastLittleBit I named it 'the joy of ex'. But there ain't nothing joyful about it. My DC are amazing, I don't know how we've all managed to stay more or less sane.
