Music whilst having sex.

The other day I felt abit rotten but my DP put on some music before sex. I said I didn't really like it as I found it distracting. I know alot of people probably do like this.
We did go through a stage where music was on but once it was Bjork who I don't mind but I just burst out laughing as it just didn't fit.
I've put my own music on before but I find it quite distracting.
He is also one of these sort of music experts and seems to know every genre. I don't think our music tastes match. So I'm always a little anxious about what I play. I know I should just like what I like..and he certainly makes it clear what he does and doesn't like. It's all individual though.
I don't think I'd mind but I'd like to be asked what do you want to listen to. It's always something obscure. This woman was singing and I felt as if there was three of us in the room ! Nuts I know...
Go easy on me I'm very sensitive due to menopause..

I wouldn't put music on specifically for sex, but I can't say it would prevent me from doing it if it was on. That said if bjork started whispering 'it's oh so quiet' in my ear I would be roaring with laughter - anything deemed 'sensual' would make me laugh too because it's cringe.

Mabelface · 03/11/2021 16:33

I can't cope with it during sex. Weird, because I love music normally.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 03/11/2021 16:36

Same as Mabelface, I cant stand music during sex and love it ordinarily. I think I can trace it back to a previous GF, from when I was about 18, who insisted on Whams greatest hits while DTD. Not sure what she was thinking! Grin

Tal45 · 03/11/2021 16:39

I like the idea of having music on but find it too distracting. Is this a good relationship - you sound like he makes you feel a bit anxious and like you can't be yourself around him?

Dillydollydingdong · 03/11/2021 16:40

My DP listens to music on his earphones all night. He's tried playing it aloud but it keeps me awake. Luckily he doesn't play music while we are dtd. I'd find it too distracting.

Ilovetheseventies · 03/11/2021 16:45

Relationship is great really good. Apart from this ! That's why I felt abit mean.

I was trying to think of any music I could happily have sex to and drew a blank -- not Barry White, not grime, not Wagner, not folk, not metal, not the Hallelujah chorus, not anything.

Also, it reminds me and I can't be alone in this of being a teenager trying to cover up the fact that you're shagging by blasting out Sonic Youth from the bedroom in which you're supposedly doing something chaste. Grin

Totally distracting. Then-husband did that once, he chose some music I really liked... I got up and danced.

gannett · 03/11/2021 16:46

I remember when I was a teenager and a huge music fan that I thought it would be so lovely and romantic to choose songs to have sex to. When it came down to it, it turned out that I loved music way too much, and kept getting distracted by it instead of focusing on my partner.

Bjork has some great sex songs (especially "Hidden Place") but I would absolutely not play them during sex.

WingBingo · 03/11/2021 16:51

Iron & Wine, The Civil Wars and Damien Rice were sex songs back in the day.

I had an orgasm the entire length of a song once 😮

Can’t do it these days though, too distracting.

BrilliantBetty · 03/11/2021 16:57

It would not be for me. Especially not bjork.

The last time I had music on specifically for sex was probably as a teenager! Hoping parents wouldn't realise what we were up to.

ByTheSea · 03/11/2021 17:01

Always have music on for sex (and lots of the rest of the time too). It enhances the experience for me.

gotalottolose · 03/11/2021 17:06

I like some background music during sex. Got to be careful though. My DH had his music on shuffle once and his friend’s band started playing mid-shag. Put him right off.

MintyGreenDream · 03/11/2021 17:10

Just realised at the age of 41 that I have never had sex with music on 😮

Clementineapples · 03/11/2021 17:13

I prefer to have music, or audiobook, or tv or literally anything to silence. I find sex very awkward though

MissChievous12 · 03/11/2021 17:15

We usually have the radio on quite low. If it's loud I can't concentrate. Occasionally we entertain ourselves with the titles of what is playing (annoyingly can't remember any offhand, but some are quite apt on Magic FM at around 10pm of a weekday evening) Also menopausal, long term married, and DH was delighted at bringing me to orgasm in the length of time it took bohemian rhapsody to play 🤣 I was quite impressed!
If anyone's seen the film there is a reference to it where Freddie says I feel sorry for your wife if you think six minutes is a long time.
We are of an age where we find sex quite amusing Blush

Which song? Asking for a friend
Ilovetheseventies · 03/11/2021 17:19

My mum said she'd done it to Bolero once, that goes on abit !!

Quiet music, orchestral long pieces, Yes. Not pop songs and NOT with the risk of ads. Classic FM did some ads for erectile dysfunction late at night for a time. Not good for the mood!!

brokenbiscuitsx · 03/11/2021 17:25

Oh no! I don’t know why but this just makes me cringe. I think I’d just burst out laughing, it’s so awkward 🤣

These days I'd be tempted to slip this into the playlist.

Which is one of the reasons why I'm single.

You’re only a young one, @MintyGreenDream. Get it done by the weekend! 😀
