Found Receipt for expensive Jewellery in car

Got the car cleaned this Morning, and came across a receipt for expensive jewellery.. The jewellery definitely isn’t for me. Jewellery really isn’t my thing, and there’s no special occasion for him to get me anything.

Only me and my husband use the car. Although we do pick up friends from time to time. The receipt is from a few weeks ago, and on this particular day he went in to work (he usually goes in once a week) I do believe he actually went into work this day but who knows what he did after.

The receipt is from around 5;40 pm when he would have finished work. I just don’t know what to expect. Has anyone been in a similar situation ….should I just ask him about it? I don’t want to spook him if he is cheating -so then he’s extra careful. then I’ll never find out the truth!

I just have a really terrible feeling in my gut that he is cheating. Although he hasn’t shown any signs that he is at all.

I’ve spent over £10000 in a transaction several times this year using chip and pin and it goes through just like buying a £5 item

I bloody love Mumsnet sometimes. Who makes 'several' £10,000 transactions in a year Shock

whynotwhatknot · 16/09/2021 13:49

My dad does think with fake names then again he is dodgy generally

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 16/09/2021 13:50

I do. 2 new cars purchased this year, spent above that amount on next years holiday which is paid in full and more than that on real wood flooring for the entire house

I don't why but this made me lol. Sorry you're going through this OP - I found my exH was cheating through interflora
girlmom21 · 16/09/2021 13:52

@Biddie191 I think you're confusing chip and pin and contactless

lynntheyresexpeople · 16/09/2021 13:52

Definitely check the card and then if it matches up, I'd leave it on the side in the kitchen in full view and see what he does

isthismylifenow · 16/09/2021 13:53

Do you know the shop? Is it local to you?

Not that you should have to, you could look through his google history to see if he was there on that day.

Otherwise I agree with leaving the envelope where and you can both see it, and gauge his reaction when you mention it.

lynntheyresexpeople · 16/09/2021 13:53

@Candleinthebreeze well done?

This is only a small thing but when you're typing conusmer do you mean customer? Consumer wouldn't be something a jewellers would have on a receipt is it? Are you sure that is the name of the person who bought the items?

twilightermummy · 16/09/2021 13:57

I think a previous poster is right in that you should watch him for a couple of weeks.

If he is cheating and you decide to leave, you will need evidence along with paperwork and documents of his accounts etc.

I can’t stress enough, do not confront him yet and get your ducks in a row as they say if you decide to end the relationship.

On another note, some comments on this thread have been outrageous! Grin

Lol. None of that nasty fake wood for you.

Marjoriedrawers · 16/09/2021 14:02

Just one question, did you have this horrible feeling he might be cheating before you found the receipt or after? Is this one of a number of things that have made you suspicious?

LaBellina · 16/09/2021 14:03

Reminds of a man that I used to date, he gave me a Pandora bracelet on our second date. I later discovered that he was married.
He was very very sneaky - I would definitely make sure you don’t drop any hints until you have gathered enough evidence and he can’t talk his way out of it.

Flowers500 · 16/09/2021 14:03

People who are saying you should just ask him are literally insane, if he was being honest about his shagging you wouldn't need to ask!!! And if you think you can always tell when people are lying, congrats you're a mug.

BackInBlackAgain · 16/09/2021 14:05

OP, you said his ipad and phone were linked, after you pulled him up on the messages did he unlink his devices? Because if it was innocent and was his brother he wouldnt really need to unlink them but if he did unlink them.. why? and how soon after you pulled him up did he suddenly unlink them? Sorry but this fact alone sounds dodgy.

frozendaisy · 16/09/2021 14:05

Is there another receipt in the house that might have the four numbers at the end that you know is his card?

frozendaisy · 16/09/2021 14:09

If there is, you could present the "Tesco" receipt, all innocent, "we got this shop on your card yes?" Pretending you are attempting to food budget or something, or "should I keep thus receipt for insurance purposes, in case we need to send back"

To get confirmation that those four digits are his card.

Then ....."oh whilst we are on credit cards, who was this jewellery for? Bought on your card? The same evening you stayed out late. From my side this isn't looking very good"

Wellonlyifihaveto · 16/09/2021 14:11

Yes I'm wondering this also.

@DoubleEx

Am amused at everyone getting outraged on behalf of all the high-earning car washers.

Especially the high-earning car washers who buy £300's worth of jewellery in the evening and take the receipt to work with them the next day and every day after that until they accidentally drop it in a client's car hmm

I agree. Seems that most PPs live in LB of Kensington&Chelsea Or on another planet. Or simply deluded
Forumqueen · 16/09/2021 14:16

Update——-
I am actually embarrassed to come back with this. On closer inspection of the name I have figured out who it is. The cashier has spelt the name wrong by one letter- so it sounds odd. He dropped he’s cousin at university last weekend and the “consumer” name is her (her name sounds like a boys name) I have messaged her and asked if she left the receipt in the car. And she said yes.

I guess this is a lesson for me not to jump to conclusions. There is sometimes and innocent answer and there are still some genuine great men out there.

Thank you everyone for your help with this madness 💓
