Things you hate about Online Dating....

Just for a laugh, I thought I'd start a thread about the bad and the ugly of OLD...

Here's mine:

  1. When men have a picture of a then holding a child on their profile, and then say 'oh, by the way, it's not mine, I promise.' Why include it if it's someone else's?
  1. When men say 'if you want to know anything, just ask.' I'm sorry, ask what? You haven't given me anything to ask about!
  1. When men just write their social media details on their profile with the words 'add me' and nothing else. No thank you. I'm not a love island contestant.

Looking forward to hearing everyone else's Smile

@SleepingBunnies21

The fish, the doped exotic animals, the cut out wives, the bikes, the cars, the promo girls (they're paid to stand and smile mate, what does a photo of you with them prove?)
@SleepingBunnies21 oh yes, the cars and the fish photos. I hate them 😟

Also, the profiles where they just upload a picture of their dogs... that's very nice but I'm not interested in dating your dog, mate 😳

Yeah, it's a dating site, not a pet adoption site, what's the point. Somr people even put up pics of only their dog, like wtf.

The only thing as wtf-y is the people who sometimes use model's pics.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 13/09/2021 11:33

Oh I’d love to go away on a whim (but not camping). I can put up with the fish, cars, boats - anything but the furtive selfies.

Dogs give me serious ick and if the dog in the photo is anywhere near the face or lap I definitely won’t be. My profile now mentions this.

jimmyjammy001 · 13/09/2021 11:41

Photos with filters

Loads of Photos with groups of friends so you have no ideas who it is your looking at

Captions such as "My children are my world and Full time single Mum (didn't realise there was such thing as a part time single mum)
" it's your problem if your scared of children " (nope, just don't want to be dealing with all the problems, hassle dramas and restrictions of what we can and can't do because of your children thanks)

People using photos from 5-10 years ago and just wasting your time

People not messaging back

"won't date anyone who's had the covid vacinne" this is a new one now

Sagaz · 13/09/2021 11:43

Everything. If I did it now at 51 the only people who'd message me would be my parents' age so obviously I've given up and I'm so much happier for it!

Being single never made me unhappy. It was looking / hoping to meet somebody that made me feel absolutely demoralised and worthless.

Natty13 · 13/09/2021 11:44

I cant believe we are 3 pages in and nobody has said mirror selfies in the men's loos with urinals in the background! Closely followed for me by lift selfies.

My best friend has recently re entered the dating world so we spend a fair bit of time on her apps comparing men in my area (London) and hers (county bordering London). There is a massive difference between the 2 types of men!

givinglessfucksdaily · 13/09/2021 11:45

Oh @jimmyjammy001 yes I saw something like that " no idiots who believe all this Covid crap please , why can't you women think for yourself ? "

👊🏼

omg, hilarious, as bad as things were five years ago, there's more! There's worse!

I was once asked (no 'hello') will you go away with me in my one man tent or are you like the rest of the prudes on here.

seensome · 13/09/2021 11:50

Bald men in hats, some women love them but why try to deceive us

ravenmum · 13/09/2021 11:51

I'd mention the dog, or have the dog in a photo, as a simple filter - so that anyone who doesn't like dogs doesn't get in touch. You don't want everyone to like your profile; that's not the point at all.

52andblue · 13/09/2021 11:57

I was trying to gird myself to try OLD.
(seeing as I'm a single parent in the arse end of nowhere)
I think I'll not bother now.
(2nd thread I've read today, 1st was married men's lines)
Goes off for early lunch to cheer self up :)

@ravenmum I don't think the problem is the dogs themselves. It's more people having pictures of the dog included in their profile. I think mentioning the dog is fine. Smile

If it's just the dog on his profile then definitely weird 😂

I've never really understood online dating. There's enough shite men in real life without going out to seek out some more.

@TeeBee I think online dating is good for people who might struggle to meet someone 'out and about,' such as people who are disabled or people who might not get too much time to go out because of family commitments.🤔

In real life too Grin
Shakeyourface · 13/09/2021 12:45

I’ve been off them for a while - but the Covid thing sounds a godsend - weeds out the utter idiots

givinglessfucksdaily · 13/09/2021 12:48

In an ideal world though - you'd think that anyone joining especially paying up to an OLD site - would have the intention of being open honest willing able single communicative stable and keen - to chat , meet possibly date with a view to whatever
Ohhhhh nooooo
The Twit Tree indeed ..

The main advantage of online dating (or personal ads in the olden days) is that when you meet, you are there to look for a date: that at least is totally clear. You are both claiming to be single and looking for a mate. Saves a lot of pointless faffing around! If you're, say, at uni, coming into contact with a load of men that are likely to be single, bumping into new potential dates almost on a daily basis, it's very different to if you're 45, don't fancy going clubbing or hanging about in bars and otherwise only likely to bump into Bob from accounting, who's happily married.

Unflattering angle selfies where you can see up their nostrils.
“My kids are my world so if you can’t handle that you know what to do”
“No crazy women please”

My theory on the ‘from below’ selfie is that it’s an ill thought-out subconscious attempt to show women the view they’d get if they were giving head…
