I have a business and have worked my ass off for 4 months since leaving my partner. I put up a picture of my new car and my best friend didn't even send a message back. Don't know what to think. One friend replied and she didn't. Not sure I should of said anything now but i was so happy to get it with working 12 hour days etc. I feel I am moving up and she doesn't like it. Any advice please.

I put up a picture of my new car

Put it up where? When?

Seagullsstopit · 24/08/2021 15:16

What sort of business?

someusernameorother · 24/08/2021 15:17

Put it up like a picture on social media? I probably wouldn't respond either. It's not like it is TO me?

Aquamarine1029 · 24/08/2021 15:18

I wouldn't give a toss about your new car, either. What kind of reaction are you expecting?

supernooodle · 24/08/2021 15:19

A brand new business to be able to buy a new car 4 months after?

Shoxfordian · 24/08/2021 15:20

Maybe she didn’t see it ?

lyntheyresexpeople · 24/08/2021 15:20

Why does she need to acknowledge your stealth brag about a new car?

Bluey18 · 24/08/2021 15:20

It wouldn't occur to me to comment on someone buying a car because I know nothing about cars and don't drive. Unless they said it to me in face to face conversation in which case I'd say "Oh how nice".

If this is the only example you have to suggest that she is jealous of you, it seems like you are massively jumping to conclusions.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 24/08/2021 15:21

Congratulations on your success. You feel it's an achievement and you're proud and want to share and have your friends congratulate you. Its understandable but maybe they just don't see it that way and to them getting a car is just a standard thing and not something praiseworthy?

SnarkyBag · 24/08/2021 15:21

Oh god you’re not an MLM bot are you? Tbh someone’s new car would be if no interest to me at all. Couldn’t get that excited when I bought my own new car!

lyntheyresexpeople · 24/08/2021 15:21

Doesn't mean she's jealous op- more than she's not interested that you bought a car. If you'd had a baby, got a new job, something big then sure, be upset if you must - but very few people care if someone buys a new car Hmm

KarenofSparta · 24/08/2021 15:22

Do you mean you put it up on social media? Or in a message to her?

If it was the first I'd find it a bit cringy tbh.

If it was the second I'd hope there was a message with it, not just the pic??

Keepitonthedownlow · 24/08/2021 15:23

It's a bit naff to post pictures of cars. Like really naff

saraclara · 24/08/2021 15:25

Is this real? Who cares about someone getting a new car? I wouldn't post a response either. And it wouldn't mean that I was jealous. I have a car. It gets me from A to B. You have a car too. Okay.

girlmom21 · 24/08/2021 15:31

Assuming you put it in a WhatsApp group?
Maybe they think it's a bit materialistic...

Some people just don’t care about cars. Simple as. I recently changed vehicle and didn’t even bother to tell my teenage children. I actually had to get out the car when I picked my daughter up in it as she had no idea it was me. She got in put her phone on charge and never said a word. And it did not bother me. Material things do not define me and I guess they don’t define my kids either which is a good thing. If it was a stealth boast on social media then no wonder she did not respond. Nothing is more annoying or tedious then others showing off. Sorry OP Confused

SilverTimpani · 24/08/2021 15:40

Was it sent to her in a message? If so I would expect some kind of reply (assuming you didn’t send a braggy message with it).

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/08/2021 15:41

The only reason anyone puts a photo of their new, flash, expensive possession up on social media is to brag, and plenty of people don’t think that bragging should be rewarded with attention. Harsh, but true.

You can celebrate your hard work and success with your friends in all kinds of non-braggy ways. You could have invited everyone to join you for drinks to celebrate how good a decision it was to ditch the ex and focus on you and your career. You could have simply posted about how good it felt to be focussing on you for once and for that focus to be bringing you happiness and success. Posting a photo of your new car and expecting everyone to gather round and get excited about it and pat you on the back was always likely to backfire.

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/08/2021 15:44

And when you next speak to your friend, for goodness’ sake don’t make any mention of how you think she’s jealous of you and what you have, unless you want to irreparably damage that friendship.

Sampafie · 24/08/2021 15:44

So getting the car wasnt satisfaction enough? You need to know that others saw it / the picture and are maybe jealous of it?

With all due respect, you sound very small minded and like your life is very very shallow. Get off social media all together, you dont need that

ChatterMonkey · 24/08/2021 15:45

What message were you expecting? I wouldnt comment on a picture of a car either...

Im guessing you wanted something like 'omg hun congrats, you've earned it' 😂

Chickychickydodah · 24/08/2021 15:51

Why do you need her approval? It’s your car be proud of what you have achieved.

Horriblewoman · 24/08/2021 15:53

I'm all for celebrating friend's successes, but them getting a new car wouldn't even register on my radar as something to recognise.

UnsuitableHat · 24/08/2021 15:54

Send pic in a personal message if you want a comment. Otherwise give it no more thought.
