We both avoid diy as we accept we are crap at it.

artichokes · 10/11/2007 17:47

I work 3 days so not a full time SAHM. But the division of tasks is the same as when I was at home full time.

  1. cooking - both (usually together)
  2. cleaning - the cleaner, but DH packs and unpacks the dishwasher
  3. ironing - DH does his work shirts, I do mine, everything else is crumpled!
  4. hoovering - cleaner
5 food shopping - always me, via Ocado
  1. gardening - both (usually together)
  2. changing beds/towels, etc - we do the beds together
  3. washing - both, but I do it more often
9 putting out rubbish/sorting recycling - DH 10. arranging things. eg docs/dentist appts. social stuff, babysitters, etc - both, but I do more 11. DIY - DH
Wheelybug · 10/11/2007 17:48
  1. cooking - during week me, w/e both
  2. cleaning - during week me, w/e both
  3. ironing - contracted out
  4. hoovering - during week me, w/e both
5 food shopping - during week me, w/e both
  1. gardening - both
  2. changing beds/towels, etc - me
  3. washing - me
9 putting out rubbish/sorting recycling - both/me 10. arranging things. eg docs/dentist appts. social stuff, babysitters, etc . me (although dh does arrange some social stuff but has to check with me mostly) 11. DIY - DH although contract most of it out 12. Financial stuff - me

DH leaves home at 7.30am ish and gets home 10pm or later so hence the division as to week days/ weekends. We're currently having a lot of work done and then plan to get a cleaner to do cleaning and hoovering and ironing (although ironing goes out at the moment).

i do all of those
plus looking after all of our animals.
sometimes my dad helps with number 11, depending on if it's minor or major.

cazboldy · 10/11/2007 17:53

I am going to show this to him, as when i ask him to help, he usually says " can't you. i've been at work all day!"
in his defence he does work long hours, and it is hard physical work - he is a dairy farmer - but actually reading through a list and realising that he does none of it......

bigboydiditandranaway · 10/11/2007 18:55

apart from gardening and cooking, which i do mainly i do everything else. I am a sahm but find i'm very tired and should do less and do more jobs with dh, esp after reading this!

  2. I do gardening, but dh cuts the grass
  3. diy
hayCHingleBells · 10/11/2007 19:02

I do everything!

Thats it.

He works and hands me money to allocate where it needs to go.

Thats it.

He washied the floor today after a drink got spilt, its sticky all over where he just spread it around. A typical example of how handy he is.

He is a builder though and very very talented at any type of construction or diy. But getting him to do anything here for me is just not going to happen.
