Hate OLD!

Newsinglemum58 · 12/02/2021 19:29

Don't think I can do OLD. Tried it a number of times and always end up deleting my profile. I just hate it..... fake profiles, creepy guys, avoidant men or are only out to waste your time....

In these times it's not exactly easy meeting people in everyday life.... what other options are there or should I buy a few cats and give up now?!

Give up and cats Grin

Newsinglemum58 · 12/02/2021 19:36

@Shayelle2009 lol! I was worried that might be the most sane option! 😄😔

Something keeps us all going back on there though! 😣 good luck with it if you do carry on Smile

Maze76 · 12/02/2021 19:49

I honestly think the key is just to see it as something to pass the time. Have fun with it, no expectations, no disappointments.

seensome · 12/02/2021 19:51

I don't think it's the best time, I'll be hibernating until after lockdown, I think quite a lot are thinking the same

arethereanyleftatall · 12/02/2021 19:52

I love it, but treat it like Maze suggests above. And I treat the blokes like they treat us. Have four or five on the go at once.

StephenBelafonte · 12/02/2021 19:54

I think OLD has had it's day to be honest.

I never did work for me because i have to see someone in the flesh to know if the attraction is there or not. OLD is a bit like talking to every man who passes you in the street.

And the conversation is dire! So many of them ask me nothing about myself.

Newsinglemum58 · 12/02/2021 20:02

@StephenBelafonte I feel like that too... I like knowing there's an vibe or attraction in person with someone and OLD can't provide this... maybe I am doing it wrong but the calibre of guys on it seems really low and half of them look like completely fake profiles.... there's got to be a better way surely? Anyone got any positive stories of how they met a good partner off line?

Yeah I struggle to do this which suggests it's either not the right thing for me or I'm not in the right place emotionally for it... 🤔

I was early 50's and a bit fat when I started OLD. There were times I came off it for a bit, so many time-wasters etc. I think if you treat it scientifically, it actually is easier to spot the losers online. When they don't show any interest in you, or are monosyllabic, etc, it saves a date finding out the same, and many of them were stupid enough to have their profile pic taken in a bedroom with a strong female presence, jewellery stands, etc (duh). I kept a kind of spread sheet, so men who disappeared for a while, then returned, often forgot what they had said to me first time round. This flagged up the liars. In 2 yrs of OLD I only got as far as meeting one bloke. He was a bit fat too, but not a liar, etc. Reader, I married him. Grin

Newsinglemum58 · 12/02/2021 20:19

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants awww I like a happy ending! I'm glad you found a good one. Two years and just one date which end in marriage! Well the time/effort clearly paid off for you. ♥️

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 12/02/2021 20:22

Thank you. But I was very scientific! I actually think its easier to weed out the no-hopers online, as they haven't had the chance to charm you out of better judgement, as in real life! I'm thinking of setting up classes, once all this madness is over. Grin

EarthSight · 12/02/2021 22:32

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants There are going to be organised, sensible men out there who would drool over a women keeping spreadhseets like this, I'm sure! 😄

OppsUpsSide · 12/02/2021 22:38

I messaged a guy ages ago I thought was so, well, hot! Never replied and I forgot all about it. Then he upgraded his profile and messaged me, quite exciting. But oh my god he’s so boring! I think I preferred the unrequited illusion tbh.

havecourage8bekind · 12/02/2021 22:42

I downloaded bumble tonight and Jesus I'm not impressed Confused I think I have to meet people in person to feel the chemistry. I'm swiping through and nobody is taking my fancy at all...pictures just don't seem to work for me?!

MissSmiley · 12/02/2021 22:50

I met my DP online two and a half years ago, I went on loads of dates, I saw it as a project, had several on the go at one time, I was really strict about my criteria and eventually struck lucky, we both knew the first time we met that it was special.
My sister met her husband online 15 years ago, it's a numbers game, I learnt a lot, you need tenacity and plenty of free time

B1rdflyinghigh · 12/02/2021 23:19

I have 3 cats and lots of vibrators!

Wilfiswolf · 13/02/2021 00:10

I’ve been doing OLD on and off for about 5 yrs. I’ve had one good 18month relationship and long periods of being single, dipping in and out of online dating. It’s a means to an end but I find it pretty hopeless - it’s difficult to gauge chemistry and like a PP said, I think the calibre of blokes is pretty dire, especially 40 plus.

Newsinglemum58 · 13/02/2021 07:13

@havecourage8bekind so depressing isn't it? I've tried most of them & just find them all awful. Guess it's not for me....

OP posts:
ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 13/02/2021 07:18

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants - I’d be very happy to be a guinea pig for your business idea!
I’m sure the others would, too...

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/02/2021 10:11

@ByeByeMissAmericanPie will bear it in mind. Grin I think it is a numbers game, combined with a take no prisoners approach. Edit out things early on, in elimination rounds. IME of dating pre OLD, the chemistry can get in the way sometimes. There are some very unsuitable blokes that I have good chemistry with, and then that gets in the way. Great for a fling, not so great for settling down. Of course if blokes were really canny, they could have got round my system, but they would have needed a spreadsheet system, good line in chat, and no photos in womens bedrooms. Hmm

Newsinglemum58 · 13/02/2021 10:57

I certainly haven't got the energy or emotional reserves to put that amount of energy into it - sounds like a job! I think I'm best off the apps and hoping to meet someone in the real world at some point but I guess that is much less likely than proactively seeking someone online. In real life you never know if someone is single for a start!

OP posts:
havecourage8bekind · 13/02/2021 11:00

@newsinglemum58 you don't know if they're single online either! I have a feeling lots of them aren't...

Newsinglemum58 · 13/02/2021 11:04

@havecourage8bekind that's very true!! And worrying.. there's also a high amount of men I believe who are avoidant and actually have no interest in a long term relationship and are just out to waste your time. You can't trust people's intentions or what they say on their profile...

OP posts:
ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 13/02/2021 11:17

It’s the ones that say I’m a 100% match and when I look, it appears they’re not fussy at all!
Anything with a pair of legs and tits will do... 🤔
